When you were in high school, did you ever hear a teacher complain about a freshman or a group of freshman that just needed to get it together? Did he or she ever give ideas on things that they could do that would definitely help them in the future? Well, in order for the freshmen , who act like total imbeciles, to be able to comprehend with everyday life they will have to do things in high first. If those freshmen do not turn in work, pay attention or study, and are not willing to be taught then they will be in a world of hurt when they are wanting to walk across the stage with their fellow classmates but can not. As stated above in order for freshmen to start getting the hang of high school they will need to turn in work. There are many consequences for people who decide that their school work is irrelevant and they just do not do it. Some consequences for not doing or turning in work are social probation, detention, and even ISS. If you do not know what social probation is, it is a restriction that does not allow you to go to any school events like prom, homecoming, football games, or ,well, any sporting event. Social Probation is not a very mirthful …show more content…
That suggestion is to always pay attention and study. This suggestion may not sound that serious but oh it is, very much so. The grading in the high school is different now and it all consists of percentages now based on your homework and quiz grades. If you do not study or pay attention, you will get that test and you are going to be befuddled because, all the questions are going to look or sound gibberish to you. You should also study or at least pay attention because a high school diploma is your ticket out of here and if you can not even pay attention in a high school class then you aren’t ready to receive the ticket that lets you on the bus out of
“Every year, 641,000 people walk out of prison gates, but people go to jail over 11 million times each year” (Rabuy). Within the United States, the incarceration rate is extremely high. For those who are incarcerated the percentage of people with a mental illness is remarkably prominent. For some offenders, there is another route out there such as diversionary programs which have a positive outcome. Diversionary programs such as The Choice is Yours is a beneficial route for first-time nonviolent felony drug offenders.
I enrolled at Missouri State University in the spring semester of 2014. I had declared my major in Criminology and Criminal Justice due to my passion for helping others. I have always been a firm believer that everyone deserves help, no matter what situation they may be in. I knew that this field was what I loved learning about, however in the beginning I was not quite sure on what field I wanted to focus on. Nevertheless, after watching a documentary in a class I was enrolled in about the life of a parole officer, I knew this is what my purpose in life should be. After long consideration I determined that Probation and Parole is what I am the most passionate about.
Freshman do not run the school so get that attitude out of your mind. You will experience many situations in which upperclassman will teach you, so take notes and learn from our mistakes. Having respect for upperclassmen and teachers will pave a successful road ahead of you, so learn that right from the start. Believe me when I tell you this, you aren’t as mature as you think you are. Each year you get more wisdom, but freshman year is a time for learning so embrace it as much as you. Teach yourself to learn from your mistakes, frankly, I am still making mistakes to this day. Come into high school with a mindset of growth and you will learn your rightful
When completing their assessments, many of referrals are received by the organization and the parole officers must initiate contact with the offender, their family, and law enforcement. Then they must conduct work, school, and home visits to gather any additional information. If a crime was suspected or even committed, they initiate contact with reporter or victim to obtain more information to help them handle the case. Depending on the situation, they may need to determine specific employment, developmental, or financial needs. During the assessment, they also gather information regarding mental health, substance use, gang activity, education, and criminal history.
Preparing high school students for college is every parent and teachers goal but sometimes that goal is hard to achieve. Students are not getting a proper education now-a-days and they do not realize that it is going to hurt them after they graduate. A study says, “That composite score dropped to 20.9 among high school students in 2013, the lowest in eight years” (Adams, 2013). That is a very low average and it is because what students are learning in high school just isn’t sticking with them through college. After students graduate they start taking harder classes, some have to start paying their own bills, and so many other changes they are not ready for. It is a big jump to go from high school to college and I think schools can do a better job of preparing students. It is their experience and education in high school that is going to help them in college. If they are not ready they are going to struggle which will result in some not so good outcomes such as having low grades or even worse dropping out. I do not believe that high school education has prepared students for college because there are many useless classes, it is more about memorizing than learning, and students drop out in a year or less because of the workload.
Federal probation was put in place to suspend a current sentence of an inmate and place them under the supervision on a qualified agency for a period of time to either free up the jail from nonviolent offenders or to try rehabilitate the offender from any future criminal acts. The development of the federal probation system began in 1925 when a bill was passed and signed by President Coolidge (Alarid, 2015). Before then, federal probation was rejected as an idea many times because it was introduced during the Prohibition Era. The National Probation Act that supported federal probation was put into effect, but it wasn’t until the mid-1900 that the federal probation law was fully working and overwhelmed as well. Since the work load got to intense
“When can I see my mom?” “Where is my dad?” “Is this my fault, can I do something to help?” These are all questions asked by the millions of victims who go unheard when their parents are sent away to prisons in the US. According to Rutgers University, 1 out of 28 kids is a child of an incarcerated parent, that means there are 2.7 million children in the United States without a mom or dad. (rutgers.edu) This number is so large because America has an “incarceration epidemic” which is affecting the lives of more than the convicted, it’s affecting the children who aren't considered, when their mom and dad are sent to prison. You see, according Federal Bureau of Statistics, the US population of adults in the correctional system is a little over 6 million. “While the United States has only 5 percent of
Probation and parole are both alternatives to incarceration. People on probation serve their sentence in the community under supervision instead of any incarceration. People put on parole have been incarcerated and is serving their remaining time in the community under supervision of a parole officer. (Michael Carlie) The reason for parole is to transition prisoners back into society. If a person is a threat to the society, then they will keep them incarcerated until their time is over instead of parole.
Under the rules that the court made in Morrissey, before a parolee can be sent back to jail or subject to other consequences of his parole violation, he has the right to "due process" of the law. This means he has a right to a hearing, a right to hear the evidence presented against him, and a right to defend himself and try to convince the parole board either that he didn't actually commit a violation or that the violation wasn't so serious that he should be returned to prison. This means that, under the current law, in order to provide the parolee with due process the consequences of a parole violation are determined at a parole violation hearing. Some States Allow For Unsupervised Probation. Who Is
Law and order are two words that keep our society from collapsing on its self. We the American people have our freedom to do what ever we want; we can purse any career, go down to your favorite restaurant and order whatever you want. We have these freedoms because people fought for them many years ago, so that we wouldn’t be under rule or dictatorship. Many people take our freedom for granted and end up on probation, in jail, or prison. In this paper I will be outlining the case of Kris, and his probation officer’s view. I will also develop a profile for a perfect candidate to participate in an intensive supervised probation
There are times when almost everyone wonders exactly what the purpose of probation is, what kinds of conditions can be imposed if someone is put on probation, and what roles the probation officer and the court systems play in the scheme of things. If you know someone that is on probation it may not hurt to know a little bit about the way it works and that is exactly what we will be talking about here.
The figure above compares the U.S incarceration rate with the rates of countries such as Canada, Australia, and European countries. The Western European democracies possess a rate of incarceration that taken together is only one-seventh the rate of the United States. Moreover, the rate imprisonment of Russia is only two-thirds of the U.S. rate. For instance, there is a reason why the rate of incarceration is significantly high compared to the rest of the world, profit. The bigger the number of people incarcerated, the bigger the pool of workers in correctional institutions.
Probation and parole are an important part of the criminal justice process, and both are
John Augustus were known as “Father of Probation." He released an adult drunkard into his custody rather than sending him to prison. Later on, he convinced the court to release more offenders to his supervision including children who had been accused of stealing. By 1846, about thirty children were under his supervision, and eleven hundred persons were bailed both male and female by Augustus (American Probation and Parole Association).
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, “probationers are offenders under adult supervision who are placed on supervision in the community by the court, generally as an alternative to incarceration”. Conditions of probation vary greatly among jurisdictions. Some offenders who receive probation may have a split-sentence imposed. This means they are incarcerated for a period of time and then are released on probation. Once on probation, an offender receives an order they will be on either active status or other orders may be deemed an offender as on inactive status. For those who do have to report, they may be given the option to report in electronically or by calling their probation officer regularly. Some are allowed to check in
