There was once a little town called Sparksville just inside the state lines of Wisconsin. It was a small town, unknown to basically everyone who didn’t live in Wisconsin. The people who lived in the town were nice to strangers, for not to many people came through very often, and they also had amazing hospitality. So amazing in fact the hotels would let complete strangers stay for free as long as they spread good news to their friends about the town. There was only one school in town for there were only about 432 residents living in Sparksville at the time, but the school was decently sized for a small town. The students were all grade A students, the teachers rarely often had problems with any of the students as they were raised with generous manners. Since Sparksville was such a small town the school didn’t offer very many sports other than Hockey, Football, and Basketball. The students who did go out for the sports that school had to offer showed a lot of potential in carrying their athletic skill into the major leagues. For the town often hired the best coaches around to bring a name to themselves, and sometimes they would even recruit kids from other states to come play for their school. Although Sparksville was a small town the …show more content…
But not Sparksville’s for every friday the theater would show a free blockbuster movie, so that everyone could have something to do and enjoy on a friday night. The mayor of Sparksville never really liked to see people in Sparksville down or upset about not having friends, or just being bored. He loved to keep people entertained and happy and that is why he was so generous to the town and it’s people. Sparksville really never had money problems for the state of Wisconsin would often gift the town money whenever they needed it with no problems
The movie ‘‘Pleasantville’’, written, produced and directed by Gary Ross, approaches a period in America’s history which subsequent generations idealise as a better and more stable society. He portrays this time period of the 1950s as a time when people and life were less complicated; a time when everyone knew their place in society. However, as the film ironically shows, this was a time when people were more ignorant, racist and most certainly sexist. Ross demolishes this illusion of the great 1950s American society by showing how its defects are gradually changed from black and white to colour. Ross shows that ‘change is inevitable’ once a catalyst for change is added to the ordered life of “Pleasantville”. Once David and Mary-Sue begin
According to the US Census Bureau, in the year 2000 the City of Brownsville was 83.01 sq. mi., today, the city encompasses 146.3 sq. mi. This growth has been one of Public Works biggest challenges. This development translates into an expanded service area, which puts a strain on Public Works’ other divisions to keep up with the new areas to be serviced while still dealing with inherited situations. In effect it generates longer waiting periods to address our citizen’s needs as well as our departmental goals. As the City continues to experience rapid population growth it demands more services and more from the services provided.
On our journey to Brownsville the first struggle we encountered was with transportation to get to Broadway Junction. Of course the MTA isn't always reliable but there were frequent stops in between stops. While waiting for the train to get up and running again various people said things like “ugh not again,” “Something always happens on the A” and other similar phrases as well as others that seemed accustomed to train issues. Now if you think about it, the A train is highly populated by Hispanics and Black people. Could this have to do with why the MTA hasn't attempted to fix their transit situation. On another note most of the trains heading toward Brooklyn and the Bronx have the older not modernized train carts than the ones heading toward Manhattan or Queens. Theres a huge change in atmosphere just in the manner of transportation.
Oakland fell into the Alternative Education Law program. Students worked at their own pace and speed to complete school. Oakland High School generally graduated between 15-20 students a year. Several smaller programs existed within the school, such as Region 5, or ALC (Alternative Learning Center) program or Lincoln Tree Farm. Region 5 were for student who were in transition from just being released from either Echo Glenn or Green hill youth jail facilities. They worked with a JRA representatives and would complete school work and prepare to reenter the comprehensive high school setting. They would have no contact with the remainder of the building and programs. This program ended during the 2007-2008 school year.
Before the 1880s, the are of eastern Brooklyn that was to become Brownsville was known as New Lots. This territory was primarily farmland, but it was also the location of the city’s largest waste dump, as well as the site of several facilities that supplied stone and other building materials. In its early history, New Lots had a diverse population. English and Irish settlers, Jewish immigrants, and a small number of African-Americans farmed the land. Others were attracted to the area by the open space and relatively fresh fresh air it provided. Brownsville at one time was a place for waste-disposal, a tenement slum, a haven for Jews before they were accepted, the cradle of a major crime origination, a testing-ground for public-housing and

After the Dakota nation ceded land in 1851 and moved to Chief Shakopee’s village in Prior Lake, the area was settled by numerous Irish, Scottish, and Norwegian farmers from Saint Paul.
Winesburg, Ohio, also known as the Book of Grotesque is a modern American classic by Sherwood Anderson. He came to be known as the “Father of Realism”, as he left his mark on literature, being the first one to portray authentic moments in American life. He tells the stories of many “faces” he saw in his dreams, describing their deeply moving lives filled with secrets. The twenty-one stories in the novel are united through the setting, Winesburg, and the main character, George Willard. The novel is character driven, and the stories have very weak plots. Winesburg is a small town, full of lonely characters whom Anderson calls “grotesques” because of their inability to express themselves and communicate with others. The

I observed Figarden Elementary School and the neighborhood during the afternoon from 2:30 p.m. till about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 14th. As I drove around the school I could see how nice and clean it was. It appeared to be newer and I could see benches around the office area for both students and parents. The paint wasn’t chipped and the school and the buildings were permanent. The playground was big and the grass was very green. I couldn’t see any equipment but play fields were nice and big. I remember driving in front of school and could see a banner on the fence with a school event an announcement of the school easel sign. The school is in the middle of very nice beautiful houses and if you drive about 5 to 10 minutes you will see
The village that I live in is called MerricK . Merrick is a hamlet in Nassau County, Long Island on the South Shore. This village is 35 miles from New York and one expressway exit from Jones Beach. The name "Merrick" is taken from Meroke, the name (meaning peaceful) of the Algonquian tribe . The first people that lived here are the Merokee Indians that farmed and fished in the area. In 1650, a Reverend Denton moved his congregation to the area from Stamford, Conn., and founded the Town of Merrick. They were drawn by the fertile soil and the Meadow Brook - then a wide rushing stream, now a small trickle paralleling the parkway that took its name. Merrick has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13 km2), of which 4.2 square miles (11 km2)
Nicholas Sparks is an amazing author and has written many best sellers. Some like the The Notebook and Dear John have been turned into huge motion pictures. Most of his books are based about life and family experiences. In A Walk to Remember the main character Jamie ends up dying from cancer and it just so happens that Sparks has a sister who died from a long battle of cancer just like Jamie. Also his book The Choice has a character named Travis who is based by his brother Micah in real life. This proving the fact that his life events play a huge role in what he chooses to write about.
