Speaker Observation

The child I will be observing is Miss S, and her age is 5 years old. I will be observing Miss S in the Language Development which pertains to the Oral Language. I found out from the mother Mrs. K that Miss S. has a stuttering problem when she gets excited. Miss S gets embarrassed most of the time she does it. Mrs. K her mother states that she has to stop Miss. S and tell her to slow down and take her time. Miss S when she takes her time she can talk without the stuttering but she uses 2 word sentences because she is afraid to talk and people make fun of her. The mom says the best place to observe Miss S is here at head start in the classroom, because she fills more comfortable around her teacher and her peers. Miss K the mom states that she

Michelle Obama once said during her Velvet Glove Convention Speech, “We learned about honesty and integrity that the truth matters... that you don't take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules... and success doesn't count unless you earn it fair and square.” This quotation means that learning comes from honestly and integrity, speaking the truth is important in order to succeed in the future. J.K was administered the Receptive vocabulary component of the WIAT III Listening Comprehension. She was asked to point to the picture that correspond to each administered word. This was done to assess her comprehension of single words. Her score was in the average range (standard score= 101). This indicated that J.K has a good understanding of spoken words.

Alexander H. Stephens was born February 11, 1812 and passed March 4, 1883. Stephens was an American politician during the United States Civil War. He was the Vice President for the Confederate States. He well known for his speech, the Corner Stone Speech also known as the Cornerstone Address. He delivered this speech March 21, 1861. Stephens reasoning behind this speech was to declare the continuation of slavery.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in Hardin County. Kentucky. He comes from a family that was neither wealthy of well recognized. Despite this, he had a longing for knowledge and worked very hard to be successful in his studies. His determination led him to become a self-trained lawyer who worked for the Illinois court circuit. Many people that worked around him witnessed his determination and capacity for hard work. Lincoln became a respected member of the Illinois legal circuit and his reputation gained him the nickname “Honest Abe.” As a lawyer, Lincoln developed the ability to thick quickly and debate on public issues, which encouraged him to begin his life in politics. As seen in the passages, the speaker is a highly philosophical and educated person in the field of critical reading. For instance, the speaker makes many comparison such as buying a beefsteak and eating it and distinguishing whether a book owner owns woodpulp and ink or the book itself. The speaker stated that even though one may have the beefsteak in their icebox, it doesn’t truly belong to them until they consume it. Similar to the beefsteak situation, one truly owns the book if he or she writes in it, but only owns the ink and wood pulp if he or she lets the book sit on the shelf, untouched. The speaker’s temperaments are revealed to the readers through his opinions about books and critical readings. Furthermore, the the speaker’s identity is apparent in the story due to the first-person narration in the beginning and the use of the word “you” to show that he is talking directly to the readers.

While living in the South, Richard refuses to accept the racial stereotypes imposed on him as a black man. He tries to fight for himself to create his own identity until realizing that his only hope was to leave the South. On his high school graduation, Richard shows his strong heart by reading his own speech, rather than reading the speech written for him by the principal. He remembers, “On the night of graduation I was nervous and tense; I rose and faced the audience and my speech rolled out. When my voice stopped there was some applause. I did not care if they liked it or not; I was through” (Wright 211). Richard refuses to accept white people talking for him, as the principal had tried to, and speaks up for himself. Dr. Hart was a very timely speaker. She engaged in the audience and really got the crowd involved. Everyone had a chance to participate and actually talk to the speaker and answer questions out loud. Dr. Hart was also funny; this made the audience feel comfortable and included in the conversation. By presenting these different forms of speaking, Dr. Hart eased the audience and the timing felt just right.

The best speaker that I have ever heard is Bishop TD Jakes. Jakes is a Preacher, father, husband, teacher, very successful business man, movie producer and launched a syndicated talk show. There are several reasons why I believe that he is one of the best speakers that I have ever heard. One reason is that he is a man of great integrity. Although he is fallible his character speaks volume without him even uttering a word. Another reason he is such a prolific speaker is because of his ability to be led by his faith and thinks outside the box consequently producing a greater but new learning experience. George Bush describes TD Jakes as a kind man who puts faith into action. I am sure that he has attended many communication classes. However

When watching a TED talk you automatically know your going to leave with some new profound thought or have your ways of thinking changed slightly. The primes behind TED talks is “Ideas worth spreading” right there in their mission statement is what persuasive speech is. In Ms. Alexander’s TED talk she did just that, she spread the idea to her audience of what the future of race in America will look like if we don’t seek to change the social, economical, and political policies that almost certainly put people in america as legal second class citizens.

On October 28th, 2015, Lone Star College of Kingwood hosted an event called the human library. It was held on campus for students who were interested to participate. The human library was created for students to gain knowledge of obstacles individuals experienced in life, such as living in the south as a black woman in the 1950’s, being homeless, and being a religion that is frowned upon in society. The purpose of the event is to teach students about other cultures, social classes, and hardship. The speakers inform our generation their own personal experience rather than information in a text book.

Having a crucial conversation can be difficult; however, it is essential for me to be successful in my project. I think of different ways I could approach the CNA to have this crucial conversation without any conflict and to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible, and handle the conversation in a way that will produce a better outcome. I asked the CNA to let me know when she is ready for her break, so we can take one together because I will like to talk to her about something that will improve our work relationship effectively. We went for a break, and I started the conversation by saying I would like to talk to you about some things I am noticing when we work together, I am not accusing you of anything, I just want us to talk about my observations, and I will listen to what you have to say. Hours upon end are spent, face buried in a laptop or newspaper, analyzing stock dividends and bonds yields. Warren Buffett books and Wall Street Journal editions - a glimpse of the night stand that has well deservedly earned me the label “business nerd” by family and friends. I have, if not an obsession, a passion for studying finance. Aspiring to work in Investment Banking, I applied to Ross as it provides excellent exposure to the world of finance through premiere recruiting opportunities and a well-constructed business curriculum that merges the science of economics with the cultivation of leadership. At Michigan, freshman students are subject to a liberal arts curriculum, which I believe can benefit me in becoming a well-rounded student. Although I have a passion for finance, I cannot imagine isolating my studies to one subject for four years of school. In my Sophomore year, I would dive into financial studies such as accounting and business strategy; but Ross also emphasizes the ‘positive decisions’ course, which interests me because it acknowledges the impact that economic decisions have on society. Coming from a middle class background, I find it important to acknowledge the effect that the cost of living or price of gas have on family finances. Ross’s Junior and Senior curriculums step past the theoretical studies of economics and into the real world application of business skills, such as ‘communication strategy’ and ‘corporate strategy.’ I believe exposure to a collaborative environment in these years can assist me in cultivating a team

Furthermore how would we be able to transfer all of our knowledge to the next person, better yet, how would we improve our capacity of knowledge as a whole. We
