Special Populations Page 2
There were several special populations that I found to be interesting. These populations include children with learning disabilities, overweight children, childhood diabetes, people with illnesses due to nervous system disorders, and abused women. After carefully looking at all these different topics I decided on people with illnesses due to nervous system disorders.
All the populations listed above have affected my life in one way or another. There is only one that I have to live with on a daily bases. I have an illness due to a nervous system disorder. Day by day I have to live with the effects o multiple sclerosis. The interest in this area comes from me wanting to know as much about this disease

These organizations that the case manager could recommend include the following: MSFriends, MSWorld, Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. All these organizations could be helpful to the client.
There are several limitations that come to mind when thinking about dealing with clients with multiple sclerosis. With me having multiple sclerosis I am more empathic with others that have the same illness. Since I feel this way many times people will take advantage of me. Another limitation is that my mind may not always be in the right place. When I say this I mean sometimes I could be having a bad day and not meaning to I could gibe the impression to the client that I do not care about what is happening with them. My main strength when it comes to dealing with this population is my knowledge about the illness. Having first hand knowledge as to what a person can expect and explaining this to them is very helpful. The main way I would use my strength to overcome my limitations is by remembering that knowledge is the most important thing when it comes to having multiple sclerosis. Being compassionate is important but having that knowledge can mean life or death.
With multiple sclerosis I do not think there would be any multicultural issues to consider. This is an illness that does not see color or culture. Anyone can get this illness; just if you do you

Deciding what populations and types of clients with whom I want to work with, in the field of social work, is one of the most important decisions ever, regarding my career. From as early as childhood, I have always known that I want to work with children in whatever career I chose. Starting my career as a social worker and working with children and families is where I feel as though I belong. I would be the least comfortable working as a criminal justice social worker. Geriatric social work is another population that I would feel least comfortable working with. Homework 2
Multiple Sclerosis known as MS is a disease that affects the brain and spinal cord this disease, unfortunately has no cure, and would cause a person’s life to progress to become more and more difficult each day. They begin to lose the ability to control their body movements and make it seem almost impossible to carry out simple, everyday function (Nordqvist, 2012). The MS Society can give grants towards items you may need as a result of your MS, if there is no health or social services funding available. They can also advise you of other sources of funding.
Particularly in case study 5 with Mary’s situation and her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. This case was a prime example of how the biological factors will impact a person’s life. Mary’s life will change drastically once the symptoms of multiple sclerosis begin to increase. One example of this is that she will be unable to compete in horse races so her hobbies and activities she participates in for enjoyment will lessen. Horse racing with friends was one of Mary’s primary social activities. Without this activity, it is possible that Mary will start have feelings of isolation and even become depressed. However, Mary’s life would not only change socially, it would change economically as
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, progressive neurological disease affecting all aspects of life: physical, cognitive, emotional, and social (Abma). It is known as an autoimmune disease, Where the body’s immune system turns against the body and destroys the protective covering that surrounds nerve cells. This damage to the nerve cells causes many problems for the patient including weakness, muscle stiffness, poor coordination and balance, tingling, numbness, tremors, blurred vision, slurred speech, and memory and concentration problems (Bren)
I struggled with my choice topic only because at how obvious it was that I should research it thoroughly. I have worked with many children diagnosed with ADHD and have long suspected it’s symptoms with in my own family as it has already been diagnosed within my extended. It is a disorder that has affected more than 6.4 million children (Holland & Riley, 2014) and that is only who has been diagnosed. As an early childhood educator I feel, with a disorder that affects so many children, I should be more knowledgeable in understanding signs of the disorder, how it effects the family in it’s daily function, and what services are available in my community.
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about multiple sclerosis by exploring various facts of the disease including what causes it, types of the disease and how it is treated.
growth rate of 35.8% over the fourteen year span or an average rate of 2.6% (United States Census Bureau [U.S. Census Bureau], 2000).

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the Central Nervous System, which interferes with the communication between the Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) and other parts of the body. The immune system attacks the myelin on the nerve fibers; resulting in damaged myelin that forms sclerosis. Overtime, many nerve fibers and myelin sheath will be damaged or even destroyed, resulting in the nerve impulse being interrupted. MS can be mild, moderate, or severe, therefore, it may cause disability as well as death. Interestingly enough, more women are affected than men. Common signs and symptoms of multiple sclerosis include: fatigue, difficulties with walking (gait), spasticity, numbness/tingling, weakness, vision problems, pain, vertigo, depression, emotional changes, cognitive changes, bladder/bowel problems, and sexual problems. Less common signs and symptoms include: speech/swallowing problems, seizures, tremor, breathing problems, headache, pruritus, and hearing loss. There a four different types of Multiple Sclerosis: Relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS), Secondary Progressive MS (SPMS), Primary-progressive MS (PPMS), and Progressive-relapsing MS (PRMS). Relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis is the most common type of MS; about 85% of people are diagnosed with this type of Multiple Sclerosis. Relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis is characterized by worsening neurologic function attacks throughout the disease. The attacks are also known
Natural selection is considered one of the most important processes for a variety of species and the environment which allows the fittest organisms to produce offspring. To prevent a species from extinction, it is necessary for them to adapt to the surrounding environment. The species which have the ability to adapt to new surroundings will be able to pass their genes through reproduction. Within the process of natural selection, it is possible for the original genetic make-up of a species to become altered. The team will report on the different processes of basic mechanisms of evolution, how natural selection results in biodiversity and why biodiversity is important to continued evolution. The sources of genetic

Research indicates that Counseling and Guidance is a significant service for individuals who cope with multiple sclerosis and cancer survivor (Chiu, Chan, Bishop, Cardoso, & O’Neil, 2013; Strauser, et al., 2010). During the VR process counselors counsel and guide individuals regarding the process and the roles and responsibilities within the counselor-client relationship. Counselors also provide counsel and guidance to their clients regarding comparable benefits and services that are available to them within the community. Within this service counselors help their clients understand disability related information, functional limitations, impediments to employment, and other services that can be provided to assist them eliminate barriers to employment. The counseling techniques that are used with the client is often based upon the client and the disability. Counseling and Guidance is the fundamental service that enhances the counselor and client working relationship and allows the counselor to stay updated on information regarding the client and the services that they
