Specialist area in Teaching C&G 7303 DTLLS COURSE ASSIGNMENT ONE At present my specialism is Teaching Climbing activities. My role is to deliver different courses in climbing which are funded by the individual learner or the awarding body as part of their course (example BTEC). Some of the courses I cover are: Beginner courses which teach the adult learner to climb indoors independently over a period of 3 weeks. Rock club is perfect for those that have just completed a beginner’s course or returning to climbing. Technique courses are about improving your techniques so that you can progress your grade which naturally comes after the beginners course. They might help the learner to find the relevant information or check their work and help them to correct their own mistakes. Other tasks they assist in are reading, spelling or filling in their logbooks. Sometimes in the work place learners may not be able to come in at the start of the session and the supporting instructor then explains what we are doing without disrupting the rest of the class. We are accountable to the BMC “The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.” Risk Assessments are put in place any accident is to be reported to Health and Safety and BMC (British Mountaineering Club) We have a Duty of Care to our learners by setting up rules structured by the BMC. They are part of the duty of care that we, as operators, owe to the learner, the customer, by law. We also have a duty of care to act responsibly towards the other users of the centre. Statements of ‘Good Practice’ are posted around the centre adjacent to the relevant facilities. These describe the accepted methods of use and how learners are expected to behave towards each other. High Sports (The Climbing Company which I teach for) receives information from BMC which provides advice on all aspects of climbing wall provision,
Is a guideline to all staff on how pupils behaviour should be managed. It is important that this policy is constantly being applied to ensure full safety of the pupils, this is why all staff MUST be familiar with this policy.
To achieve a distinction, I will be exploring the future of the gaming industry on each of the various platforms.
We frequently find connections between socio-economic factors and educational outcomes. One of these connections entails an intersection between higher household income and attending university. While there have been many cases in which lower income households were able to put their children through college, attending university and having a higher income pretty much come hand in hand. This is merely a connection found not through necessity, but convenience.
Assess the Need: Build, repair, regulate the spiritual and natural body in this fast pace society. Families loose nutrition due to work schedules, school, etc. However, there is not much time for food preparation (natural or spiritual), so one eats all the wrong foods. Therefore, my proposal is learning different natural foods that supports a healthy life style; Spiritually, learn the Fruits of the Spirit as a reminder as one become more like Christ in this life. Breed Hope within the ministry and at home. Bringing the family unit back together. Discuss the importance of spiritual and natural nutrition is to the physical body.
This research studied 2 groups of mother and child pairs. The children in this experimental study were children who displayed oppositional behaviors only and were not receiving treatment from other providers. All parents received parent management training. In one group the mothers were instructed to interact with their child by discussing events that had occurred in the past using language that described emotion and the results of behaviors. The other (control) group participated in child-directed play. The researchers hypothesized that both groups would see a reduction in oppositional behavior but that the non-control group would also see increases in emotional vocabulary and expressions in both the child and the parent. They believed that these increases would be observed in the children not only when interacting with the parent but with the researcher as well. (Salmon, Dadds, Allen & Hawes, 2009)
This article explains the theoretical underpinnings of vocabulary instruction and its importance to content area teaching. Additionally, the article provides four methods for educators to implement vocabulary learning in their classrooms. The article begins by indicating that vocabulary is a “predictor” for reading comprehension ability and students’ reading performance. Moreover, when a reader knows more words they can read more complex texts and write with more sophistication. The authors note that vocabulary knowledge needs intensify as students move up the middle and upper-secondary grades, with students needing to know well over 88,500 word families by the time they enter the ninth grade. In order to meet this need, content area teachers should focus not on direct instruction of vocabulary - e.g., assigning vocabulary list for defining and using in sentences - but rather focus on more context dependent vocabulary instruction. The recommended methods for teaching vocabulary in the secondary grades include: assigning (1) wide reading (reading 60 mins a day = 2,250,000 words a year); (2) select specific words and phrases to teach; (3) model word solving; and (4) utilize words in discussion. Ultimately, vocabulary is central to content area learning and it is important for vocabulary to
Due to its methodological nature, the course is mainly oriented towards developing general competences such as:
Sadly, numerous amounts of my pupils didn’t obtain the skills that we as adults take for granted. Therefore the importance of a Code of Conduct incorporating transparent behavioral protocols become more imperative.
According to BTEC ICT level 3, a brick and click organisation is a where a business has a traditional store as well as online store. Brick and click organisations are becoming more popular as online shopping has increased. There are many benefits to for a person to shop online rather than in store, when you are purchasing goods in a store you have to count your total costs and this can be embarrassing if you’re at the counter and realise you do not have enough; e-commerce sites calculate the shopping cart for you. Another benefit to customers is that you can shop in the comfort of your own home which is ideal when there is bad weather. However, there needs to be a person who is maintaining the site as well as updating prices and stock levels. Also, the business needs to be aware of delivery costs especially if the order is to be sent to another country which can be costly for the business. As smart phones are very common there are apps that are made specifically for phones where you can purchase goods, such as eBay or Amazon. As Christy Moore currently only has a brick organisation is very hard to for him to widen his range of customers. A click organisation will give Christy more customers and will open his business to a wider audience.
Upon taking this placement course, the first company that had come to mind was Truscott Italian Bakery. I knew that I would learn many skills that can prove beneficial if I chose this as my placement. My experience here will guide me for a prosperous future in the business world.
In my current role as Science skills tutor (forensics). Although I have only been in this role a short time I find it challenging and rewarding, I have assessed their learning needs as far as short term targets and hope to develop a weekly programme to develop their study skills and career aspirations with applied examples from my background in industry, local sources of employment such
Perhaps when writing the curriculum for the class you could consider some of these ideas, it is important to reach out to each of the students and make them feel comfortable and want to take interest in what they are learning. According to Interest Theory it is important for students to find value in what they are learning. Some examples of this include; when a student is able to apply what they have learned to everyday occurrences, being able to gain gratification from achievements, and even feel the recognition of a practiced skill as useful. Attribution Theory implies that as a teacher it is important to create an environment where many different cultures and viewpoints are valid and offered. Calvin makes a point by saying that sometimes his ideas are “too big” so that no one cares. So if you encourage this out of the box thinking and give Calvin opportunities to show he knows what he is talking about Calvin will take more interest in what he is learning. Tying in Self Determination Theory into the curriculum. Calvin would then be intrinsically motivated when you give him the opportunity to test his knowledge with a topic that interests him. As the teacher, you can offer a variety of tasks, which will make it difficult for him to attribute his “failure” to one specific type of lesson plan or lecture. Which ties into Goal Theory, and suggesting letting students have some control in the class. For instance; letting the students have a choice of what they can read. If you
The declining enrollment of pre-service teachers and graduate students in education-related programs across the United States (Sawchuk, 2015) has resulted in the closure of Schools of Education and adjustments in the course offerings. Cross listing courses are one of the accommodations made by the schools. That is, students with different backgrounds, expectations, interests, and specializations enroll in a course that closely meets their course requirements. Teacher educators in charge of such courses face the dilemma of either preserving the fidelity of the intended curriculum or modifying the course to meet the needs of all enrolled students. Notwithstanding, teaching a cross-listed course offers an opportunity for modeling
Good afternoon. I am writing to you regarding a concern I have within the current curriculum that is being taught in the University Studies/ University 1010 class. I am currently enrolled as a traditional student with prescribed courses, therefore I must take the University 1010 class. Once I was enrolled in this class and attended, I realized how juvenile the material being taught actually was. As a freshman student, I do not feel the need to learn about sexual education and the value of education in our life. These are things I already know, and I don’t feel the need for them. Below are a few suggestions I have thought and considered.
