7. In the concluding paragraph, you start with the thesis and broaden the subject to relate it to more generalized statements.
People should not keep pit bulls as pets because they are dangerous. A neighbor’s pit bull had escaped from its house, “and was sitting in the Moreira’s driveway when 8-year-old Melissa and her mother returned to the house. The dog viciously attacked Melissa requiring her to have multiple major reconstructive surgeries in the years following the incident.” Also, animal control officers say they will not cover a dog attack unless the situation involves a pit bull.
Shelters put down pit bulls every day, thousands of them, because the media has deemed them vicious. Shelters believe that no one would want such a monster, so why should they keep them when that space could be used for a better dog? Animal violence in general is unacceptable, and we should not blame any animal more than another for protecting themselves.
11. Which of the following should be documented in a research essay? (Points : 5)
Humane Society’s all over our nation get 1,500 to 1,600 Pit Bulls every year and only 2 out of 10 find a home, the rest is put down. We all think Pit Bulls are the world’s most aggressive dog breed from the stories media tells about them. This leads to ban laws all over our nation, aggression is the cause of the laws, even though it’s not the dogs fault it’s the poor decisions of the owners. When will Pit Bulls be happy? Is it when they are gone and no longer loved? People should be allowed to own Pit Bulls.
Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which the student addresses the following three (3) items using headers to separate each response:
An Anonymous author stated, “Pit bulls are beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without ferocity, and all the virtues of man without the vices.” (Anonymous) As a Pit bull proprietor, I feel that Pit bulls are consistently confounded animals. As a matter of fact, any animal, pit bull or even a Chihuahua can be merciless or delicate. Additionally, adore and minding wins out with animals basically as it guarantees with people. Furthermore, affection is the item that makes an honorable or repulsive puppy and not their kind of breed or innate beautifying agents.
This first fact is something everyone should know, Pit Bulls are not an actual breed of dog! Yes there is a breed called the American Pitbull Terrier, but that is what most people call a ‘Pitbull’, Pit Bull refers to the look of a dog. There is a rumour about the Pit Bull's bite, which stated that they had a bite strength of 1,600 pounds per square inch and was the strongest bite of any dog, and the is not true the Pit Bulls true bite strength is 235 pound per square inch, which is weaker than the German Shepherd and the Rottweiler. Despite having an overly aggressive reputation Pit Bulls don’t make good guard dogs, since they are to trusting of humans and might greet them as a new friend. The Pit Bull is known to be so caring to children that they are called nanny dogs. Pit Bulls have 31% more likelihood to attack an unknown individual. There is thought to be about 2.5 million Pit Bulls in america. In the year 1991, England and Wales banned Pit Bulls. At any given time there is a media scare about a specific breed and before Pit Bulls there was German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, and even Bloodhounds had a media scare. Though Pit Bulls have been around since the 1800’s they only recently began to gain popularity in the 1980’s when there was crack downs on dog fighting rings. The most well known crackdown was in 2007, when Michael Vick’s ring was busted and 51 dogs were seized, of those
Pit bulls have a bad name because of events that have occurred in the past. This bad reputation is provoking pit bull bans all over the states. “In recent years, the breed has been unfairly villainized as overly aggressive and dangerous” (Morral). We are not giving the dogs enough credit for being such great companions. Pit bulls are being judged for many of things; their past, recent activities, all of the dog fighting. “Despite their gallant history, pit bulls faced an uphill battle in gaining official recognition” (Morral). In reality pit bull bans are not necessary anywhere.
“86 percent of fatal canine attacks include an unneutered male, according to the American Humane Society” (Joshua Holland 1). There’s a neighbor that always keeps his pit bull outside on a chain and never let inside, not even during the winter. You never see his master out there playing with him, the only attention that is paid to him is when it’s time to eat. The neighbors could clearly see how the dog was isolated and uncared about, it also had bruises and cuts from where the dog was hit and kicked and abused. Another clear thing was that this dog was not neutered, if it were to get out, then there would be pregnant female dogs with even more pit bulls out there. That dog got loose one day and ran off, no one had heard anything about it for the next couple
Pit bulls can be great protectors. This breed of dog is able to save people. “ On Halloween, a Richmond, Virginia woman was being assaulted by her abusive partner when her dog stepped in. ‘ As any good dog would do, when he saw her in trouble, Chako intervened and came to her aid, trying his best to keep the attacker from hurting his beloved owner.” quoted by http://www.lifewithdogs.tv. This quote demonstrates that pit bulls are willing to put their life in danger for the one they love. Pit bulls are also great dogs for children.
Pit bulls should be allowed to be kept as pets because they can be as sweet and intelligent as other dogs if they are properly trained and if they are not attacked or provoked by people. All dogs are individuals, they should be treated and trained as if they are. Proper training is something that ought to be done when getting a dog. Today, pitbulls are known to be violent and aggressive dogs; however, this statement may not necessarily be true for all pit bulls.
In this activity, you will be exploring your chosen topic and then narrowing your focus. Finally, you will begin thinking about your sources and how they might connect to your paper.
(1) Content: Determine what information the source can give you. Is it relevant to your subject? Will it help you complete your study?
Importance- Explain the importance of studying your topic. Why should we care? What is the relevance in terms of current academic study? What do current researchers/professors say about your topic? This section should include references to research that you have done during the course of this class. Be specific. Include in-text citations (MLA) or footnotes (Chicago).
