Time Celebration/Struggle/Question: Claim about teaching
3 minutes and 20 seconds Struggle: My body language at this point in the video shows me being nervous, by rubbing my arm. Teaching is not as easy as people say. Everything needs to be planned and sometimes not all plans works out.
4 minutes Celebration: I remembered to praise the students that followed direction. Students need extrinsic and intrinsic motivation as a reassurance for the appropriate behavior.
5 minutes and 11 seconds Struggle: I felt that the instructions at this time were a bit confusing, especially because another class was walking out for lunch. I felt that I should have waited or been aware of the time of the other class transition.

Next, I called out group by group to line up by the color of their caddie on the desk. I reminded students to walk to the line, and to line up quietly. After, I stood at the front of the line and waited for students to line up quietly. Some of the students noticed that I had my finger on my lip and copied as I waited. When the line was quiet, I took them to the cafeteria. The students walked quietly in line. When we got to the cafeteria, I made sure that all students were accounted for and my way for lunch. Looking back at the video of my management task, I have noticed that my nervousness was shown through my body language. I kept looking at the clock, and I kept rubbing my arm as if I was cold. At first, I didn’t expect myself to be nervous, but I was. With this said, there are many aspects in my lesson that were implemented differently than I planned. For example, one of the steps I had written on my lesson plan was getting the students to sit at their desk before they put their materials away. During the actual lesson, I had instructed the students to put away their materials first and then sit at their desk quietly. This occurred because the students were at centers and everyone was not sitting at their seat. Moreover, looking back at this lesson, if I was given a redo, I would probably try a new attention strategy with the students like a clap sequence. I would try it this way,
Speaking to my instructor on clarification on instructions frightens me as much as being lifted 100ft in the air, every day I push myself to overcome my intense anxiety in order to increase my chances for success and better myself.
I got the chance to see three grade levels during the observation. The first grade I got to see was third grade and they were at p.e. and I even though I only got to observe the third grades for 15 minutes, I learned that it’s important that the kids get up and move every day. Also, that by the kids playing they learn how to work with each other. Then when it was time for the kids to go the teacher blew a whistle and all the kids ran and got into two lines. When the teacher saw that everyone was in line, he started walking while the kids followed in an orderly manner to go to lunch. The second grade level I got to see was fourth grade. I only got to stay in the class for 20 minutes but during that time the kids were
Today, our third choreography day, my group was assessed by our peers. We did not finish the piece before the review, which I believe did contribute to some unusual mistakes. This contributed to many areas where we may had been forgetful and off time from each other simply because we were working before hand at a pace faster than our brains could comprehend, just to finish the dance. Realizing this, I definitely know that it is more beneficial to progress at a slower rate and remember the piece, than to vigorously finish the piece and tarnish all of our previous rehearsal time trying to remember other sections. Our peers had identified a very obvious flaw during the presentation: lack of expression. Again, I believe that because our minds were
My hand began to move as well to express emotion, but it seems to get in the way later on during the speech. The body movement did not feel apparent as much in the beginning and this is due to cue I wrote in my outline, to breath and remain calm. Although it only worked in the beginning as I only included them in there and not throughout the speech. From this I’ve leaned that I need to put reminders to not only help me stay on track, but to help calm down if I begin shake. I’ve also noticed I avoided eye contact throughout the speech. In only a few instances I did manage to look towards for a brief moment, but looked away. From this I know I need to have more eye contact towards my peers and be aware for cue of the audience to know how well I’m doing.
“A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart”. Education is one of the most substantial assets to live stably and comfortably today. Many people fail to realize the importance of education. Pursuing a career as a teacher is not an easy journey. However, it is one of the most awarding careers one can pursue. Becoming a key component in another individual’s life is a big step. As a future educator, you must know your role and importance to the adolescents that you will encounter. Many people think that teaching is an easy career. However, from my experiences as a student teacher, I have noticed the hardships in teaching. Teaching is a not just a career, it is a passion. A passion that one must have to reach out to the younger generations and positively influence each student individually.
In reflection of the past eight week I have grown as educators and as a student. I have learned that teaching involves effective planning, instructional support and skilled teaching. I believe as an educator, you must be dedicated and willingly to think outside of the box. As a professional in any career I decide there will
My area of refinement was pacing. I addressed this area of concern by continuously practicing purposeful pacing in my instruction and knowing my next moves. I consistently question myself in my lesson planning and on instructional decisions that influence my pacing, to make sure my goals are clear, and that my learners knew exactly what they are learning and doing each day. My students will be prepared for the fast-pace of 5th grade and so forth after having become accustomed to the diligent pace of fourth grade.
plan. The first hurdle many new teachers have to overcome is the ability to maintain control of
Learning is not a skill that is necessarily instinctual or easy, and therefore different approaches must be used to make learning easier and more fun for students. Teaching is not a skill that can be memorized or made repetitive, and so teachers must continue to challenge not only their students, but also themselves. Teachers that become complacent in their jobs are not good teachers. Those who can find a way to make an old lesson new and exciting will have an energized classroom, and will be reenergized themselves.
I pulled myself through the hallway, stumbling almost every other step. Bodies constantly brushed against mine, so I made it a habit to constantly say excuse me to prevent altercations. Finally, I made it to the lunchroom only to be greeted by a lunch line stretching to the door. While watching, I tried to muscle through my stomach grumbles. Having “C” lunch was bad, but being forced to go through a prolonged wait in line everyday made it even worse. When I eventually got my food I looked down at my watch and saw I had eight minutes to scarf down my food and get to Pre-cal, an overpacked, frustrating class. Not much could ever get accomplished with all the students packed in the classroom like sardines. I sat and wondered if the administration ever understood the struggle we were going through. I wondered when they were going to do something.
Over the next couple weeks, I faithfully arrive to class early every day. I become more comfortable speaking, my shoulders are more relaxed, and I no longer need to read off of the paper. I start feeling like I can actually do this.
The first location, the school, I did the job of a teacher aide. The aide’s job was simple and rewarding. The first job that that needed to be completed was pulling the chairs off the tables. The next job began as the students arrived; I checked backpacks for folders and library books. After that, I returned the library books, stuffed papers into their folders, and return them to their backpacks. After the folders were put away I began to prepper for a ladybug painting activity. Students came to my station one at a time until the entire class was completed one red body and six black legs. The end of the day I was able to monitor the class on the playground and walk them to the bus.
First beginning with day one, for lesson preparation I intended to use the student’s lunch to take care of some cutting and distribution of materials. This was my first flaw. Utilizing this time for last minute adjustments and distribution of materials was fine but counting to be able to get the cutting done during this time was an error in judging the time it would take to cut out the word sort I’d intended the students to complete for the vocabulary words. This led to a scramble to get the baggies of cut paper to each student at the opening of the lesson.
I was sitting in class as the students one by one walked to the teacher’s podium and got their abilities checked.
A bell rang and it was time for lunch. Freshmen were dismissed from the gym and walked toward the cafeteria. I didn’t know who I wanted to sit next to or who I wanted to talk to. I
