The Use of Spice in the United States Navy
The use of spice in the United States Navy is illegal and is punishable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Military members need to understand how the use of spice can affect not only their health, but it can endanger their lives and those around them, and that making bad choices can end their careers. This essay will address the problem, while discussing and providing recommendations of the use of spice in the United States Navy.
Problem
Spice has become a big problem in the United States Navy. Back in 2010 spice wasn’t detectable in the drug screenings, which lead Sailors and to start using this synthetic drug while avoiding military drug testing. That has gradually changed, since the Navy commanders started requesting more testing to be done for their units, but the problem still exist today. Therefore, it’s important to explain the Navy Drug Policy to each individual upon enlistment and throughout their career. Random health and comfort inspections should be implemented, were the Senior Enlisted Leaders will inspect living quarters at sea and ashore. An outreach program should be initiated which identifies confirmed spice users to go out to the fleet and talk about the effects, health risks, and career outcome that using spice can have. The Navy should invest in a better drug screening test due to the constant change of the chemicals in spice which makes it very hard to detect. Lastly, Sailors who choose to use spice violates the Navy drug policy, the trust of their peers and their chain of command. The punishment that is awarded should include a Bad Conduct Discharge along with 6 to 8 months in confinement, doing this will show Sailors the severity of using spice in the

When you think of the word "drug" what comes to mind? Probably marijuana, cocaine, lsd, prescriptions but what about bath salts? When I first heard stories about people on bath salts my reaction was you have to be kidding right, but no first popping onto the radar of the DEA and poison control in 2010, this product is causing quite a stir in the United States. Mark Ryan from the LA poison control says in an interview on the Dr. Oz television show "that he has never seen a drug that has caused the problem as quickly and severely as this". Making local and national headlines as the new designer drug that is completely legal, for now at least, and very dangerous. It doesn't stop people from purchasing it and snorting, ingesting, injecting
The United States of America has not always been the world superpower that it is today. The same goes for its Navy. In the first several years of existence, the United States Navy was not a formidable fighting force. The young nation was hesitant to invest in a navy for many reasons, one of them being to prevent provoking the world powers of the time, France and Britain. On top of that, navies were very expensive to build and required a significant amount of resources to maintain, which the U.S. did not have at the time. To say that the United States Navy was ill prepared for war would be a dramatic understatement. The U.S. had a total of fifteen ships in its entire naval fleet compared to the might of the Royal Navy which possessed over six hundred warships. Even with the odds stacked against the U.S., President Madison declared war on 18 JUN 1812. The lack of size and power of the navy at the time would make it extremely difficult to satisfy the needs of the newly founded nation.

Soma is often used by the government to control or condition the members of Brave New World. The use of soma or drugs in Brave New World is different than today and the past’s usage of drugs. During the 1930s, substance abuse and addiction began to rise. In World War II, amphetamines were widely distributed to soldiers to fight fatigue and improve their mood and endurance. Marijuana and a large wave of opiate addiction began to rise greatly. Today, marijuana is the most common illicit drug used.An estimated $193 billion are spent on illicit drugs today. On November 10th, 1775, the Continental Congress passed a resolution that stated "two Battalions of Marines be raised", which established the Continental Marines, and is now considered the birth date of the Marines. The newly formed Continental Marines served on both land and sea, and took part in many major engagements, which helped establish them as an important branch of the Armed Forces. The first Commandant of the Continental Marines was Captain Samuel Nicholas, who was born in Philadelphia in 1744. He was commissioned to be a “Captain of Marines” by the 2nd Continental Congress on November 5th 1775. Nicholas soon established Tun Tavern as the recruiting headquarters. The United states has taken consistent efforts to control the distribution and manufacture of medications and other drugs, with many efforts regulate possession importation and sales of various types of drugs. While there are several historic pieces of legislation that deal with the regulation and control of various substances, there is no other single piece of legislation that is an important and impactful to health care as the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. This essay will explore the history of this legislation, its purpose and passage from proposal to law. Some may argue American this is true for American society as a whole, because of the implementation of this law and the addition of the Drug enforcement Agency as the agency that
Since the late 19th century, the federal and states governments of the United States have enacted laws and policies to deter the use and distribution of illegal drugs. These laws and policies have not only deemed what drugs are legal and illegal, but have also established penalties for the possession and distribution of these substances and established federal agencies to control drug use and administer drug law enforcement. This essay will not only examine the landmark drug laws and policies established by the federal and state governments, but also the enforcement of drug laws.
“In Massachusetts, there were 1,379 confirmed deaths from opioid-related overdoses last year — and the number of overdoses rose 41 percent from 2013 to 2014.”(Beth Warren, 6) “Overdoses of powerful prescription painkillers and heroin, have killed almost 250,000 Americans since 2000.”(Peter Catel, Pa.1, S.1) With opioid related deaths increasing every year more regulations should be laid out to help prevent large amounts of the opium on the streets. All this opium poses a threat to sanitary conditions around the U.S. by dirty needles, pipes, and a common light bulb can be seen as biohazard.
Members of the armed forces sacrifice not only their time, but also their lives serving in extreme stressful situations and remote circumstances in the world. Although these individuals are considered to be one our bravest people in this nation, they are also not immune to the substance use issues that affect the rest of society. U.S. military members are considered to use illicit drug use the least as compared to their civilian counterparts, but the popularity of heavy alcohol and tobacco, prescription drugs, and opioids are increasing in a fast pace. If this is left untreated, then it can often lead to criminal activity and can tragically increase numbers of veterans that are being arrested and entering the criminal justice system.
Advertisements these days use many different techniques in order to sell a product. The Old Spice Company uses several methods to convey a message and sell their product. Old Spice commercials are well known for using the famous Isaiah Mustafa, wrapped in just a towel, to talk about the company’s product. While Mustafa walks and talks, the background and setting of the commercial changes and the actor never loses eye contact. The product is always shown throughout the entire commercial. By combining all the elements of gender stereotyping, sexual imagery, and racial innuendoes, Old Spice is able to convey a message to sell their hygienic products.

There are many traditions that have been established over the long history of the military services. These many traditions can be broken into numerous customs and courtesies. A custom is a way of acting in a manner that has been continued constantly over a long period of time. It is almost like a law. A courtesy is a way of displaying good manners and politeness when dealing with other people. Military courtesy conveys respect both up and down the chain of command.
Synthetic cathinones are usually marketed as cheap substitutes for other stimulants such as methamphetamine and cocaine. Bath salt products are available legally online and at stores that sell drugs, tobacco shops, gas stations and even convenience stores. The weird thing is that packages say “not for human consumption” so that no supervisory actions can be taken against the manufacturers (Gershman and Fass, 2012). Eventually, the DEA temporarily banned a few of the stimulants that are found in bath salts as Schedule I drugs. As we learned in class, Schedule I drugs are noted to have the following characteristics, “The drug and other substance has a high potential for abuse, the drug or the other substance has no currently accepted medical
