At a young age I was introduced to basketball and volleyball, and ever since the love for these two sports have grown and play a big role in my life. Today, as a competitive athlete, I have learned how to be a leader, what it takes to be successful, and that nothing in life will be handed to you. My role of being a leader all began when I was in third grade on the basketball court. I was the only one that knew how to dribble, so my role was to be the "point guard,” the person who leads the team on offence. Still today I play this role; I am currently the captain of my varsity basketball team and was the captain of my successful volleyball team. Being an athlete has also shown me what it takes to be successful. I have learned the key to success
Along with NHS, being actively involved in varsity sports throughout high school has made me gain a “work hard” attitude. This attitude of constantly working above and beyond will carry over to my future education and career to help me succeed. As a two-year captain of both volleyball and cheerleading, I have learned to be a team leader while also being a team player. High school sports have instilled lifelong lessons in me such as working hard, being responsible, and being a leader, that I know will aid me in by success in academics and a
Zanesville would get a 19-yard catch by Andrew Everson and then a 17-yard run by Murphy to give the impression that their offense was ready to turn it on. Then with 2:49 left in the half Everson would get sacked by Marques Sherman for
Throughout my life, I have frequently been a part of a team. Whether it was in an athletic, academic, or employment sense, I have learned many life lessons and values solely because I was a part of these teams. Growing up, I was involved in countless team-based sports in which I had a number of roles. There were times when I had to step up and lead, and times where I had to learn to take a step back and follow. I learned that I was only a small part of the success that happens and that the ultimate goal of the team was
Even the air was trembling. The gym was filled with a mixture of nervous and urgent, and all we need was another basket to break the deadlock. The score was 19-36, nearly 2 minutes left, however, the unstoppable cheering was still there, as well as our spirits. None of the girls on the court gave up, though we were not close to winning; every one of our eyes were blazed sharp and focusing, waiting for another steal or chance to shoot. In brief, before the timer buzzed, we would never give up on our game---which is the most valuable spirit in CCA sports. Our girls basketball game has the power of inspiration, because though they didn’t win, they supported each other with encouragement when difficulties come. All they do is to turn the failures
Notre Dame student senate convened Wednesday night to discuss potential changes to RecSports fitness class programs, approve the new Student Union Treasurer and pass a resolution regarding partnering with National Association for Eating Disorder Awareness.
As voted captain on Hampton-Dumont's athletic teams, I discovered the value of communication, unity, perseverance, and passion. Leaders are only successful if they have followers. I have come to know that every individual has a gift to contribute. Every role is vital. My teammates trust me because I value the individual and withhold judgement. I genuinely care about each and every girl, regardless of who she is or where she's come from. I seek and expect the best out of everyone, and when you do that, anything is possible. With this leadership style, each of our school athletic teams became cohesive and united. It became less about me and more about friends with true commitment to each other who focus on the big picture of teamwork.
During my junior year at Kent, I met one of the most hardworking people that I would probably ever meet. We met in the fall when we both tried out for JV soccer. Being both inexperienced and totally unfocused, it wasn’t much of a surprise when we both got cut. I know that it’s ironic that I’m calling this girl hardworking and then unfocused, but just hear me out. Getting cut from JV soccer was honestly the best thing that’s ever happened to me because otherwise I probably wouldn’t have become best friends with Nam Pham. We both dropped down to club soccer and even though Nam wasn’t the greatest at soccer, she always tried to make the most of it. Being on the field, she would always run for the ball and try to kick it even though most of the times, her kicks usually came in contact with someone’s shins instead of the ball. But her kicks were fierce and there’s me to vouch for that since one of her aggressive kicks came in contact with my shins.
Organized sports helps children learn to cope with others. Children also develope a strong sense of identity and pride. Organized sports, music lessons, and scout meetings can show ones difference and talents. It teaches children how to work with others, and use their creativity as a tool. Group activities also provide opportunities for children to meet new people who share same interest.
Being a sports coach is a stressful career, you have to have a bachelor’s degree. They also have to train in CPR and first aid and sometimes in sports safety and coaching fundamentals. Coaches use research to find new plays to use. Sport coaches use qualitative and quantitative research every week. Sport coaches have to be really good with kids or they could lose their jobs.
The Ohio University Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Sports Administration is a program I would love to be a part of. I believe that in order for me to have a top position in the sports industry, a masters in both sports and business is key. This degree would not only make me a more marketable candidate when seeking for top jobs in the sports industry but construct me into a well-rounded professional. Although I have had numerous of leadership roles which has helped in shaping my decision for wanting to be a marketer in the sports industry; a Masters of Business Administration and a Masters of Sports Administration will fully equip me.
Sports connect with people in a very direct and personal way. The sport world stays connected by using social media. Staying connected through social media allows the consumer to communicate with an organization in a more direct way (Newman et al., 2013). A major regional sporting network is Root Sports, which is a network that provides news for fans, teams, sponsors, etc. A member of the networking team is Jen Mueller, a reporter for live sporting events, an anchor and a producer for magazine shows in Seattle, WA (Root Sports, 2016).
It has been identified that through sports psychology one can improve their physical ability and performance. Sports psychology is the study of how the mind, mental states and behaviour effect sporting performance. There are several sport psychology techniques, which have helped me become a better volleyball player. These techniques include planning for performance, controlling arousal levels, mental rehearsal and concentration.
Some players come from low income backgrounds. The need and lack of Money is the root of desperate need for colligate athletes. Players overlook education to go pro due to money problems at school and home. Welch states "If college athletes were paid for the talents that they possess while in school, they might be more willing to finish their degree" (Welch 22). Basically saying most players go pro because of their families financial status. Another aspect of it is, if the players can get the money they need in another way it causes violation. In the book Amateur athletes by Allan Marzilli the author states "Many people believe that by strictly limiting the compensation that an athlete may receive , the NCAA is inviting corruption" (Marzilli
In earlier days sports psychology was mostly concerned with developing assessment methods that would identify those people with the potential to become serious superior athletes. Today the focus is on psychological training, exercises that strengthen the mental skills that will help athletic performances on the path to excellence. These skills include mental imagery and focus training. If an athlete is serious about becoming the best he or she can possibly be, the most essential ingredient is commitment to practice the right things. It takes incredible commitment to reach the top: a commitment to rest and train the body so it can perform under the most demanding conditions and a commitment to train the mind to
