Benefits of Sports
Being able to help athletes return to the sport they love after an injury sounds like a great job, but what if I told you that the job of a sports medicine physician comes with a lot of health risks and lack of sleep? Many physicians work in small private offices or clinics. They are often assisted by a small staff of nurses (“Career Guide”). They must evaluate athletes before they participate in sports to prevent them from reinjuring something (“Sports Medicine Physicians”). Sports medicine physicians must perform physical examinations, record information, and maintain medical records (“Sports Medicine Physicians”). Their goal is to help treat athlete’s injuries to help them return to the sport they are in. The issues that concern me about being a sports medicine physician are the long, irregular hours, the health issues that can result from lack of sleep, and the risks that can result the irregular hours.

First, is the education of the patient, if the athlete is willing to report and communicate the problem to the appropriate personnel at the moment and time when it happens, the medical staff will be on the ability of removing the athlete from participation if it is necessary. In addition of educating the athletes, it will be vital to focus on the education of coaches, and parents over the consequences of this injury, the responses of the athlete during the injury, importance of reporting this to the medical personnel (Athletic trainer), and acceptance of the injury. By increasing the awareness of the injury, the medical staff will be more accurate, precise, and the time of recovery will be lower since the athlete will report it in a shorter period of time.
The study of the human body and its movements has been present for centuries. While there has almost always been an interest in the human body and its way of working, modern technology and scientific discoveries have greatly aided modern medicine and research of human anatomy and physiology. These days, the study of medicine is far more extensive than many people understand, and those who want to pursue a medical field have great amounts of work awaiting. Athletic Training as a profession in this day and age involves extensive schooling, training, and focus when on the job.

I believe that sports related to different parts of my life such as music and pharmacy. Both of these areas of my life required me to devote huge amount of time that would normally devote to a sport to become the best I can be. Throughout my junior and senior years of high school I was a part of the Student Athletic Training Team in the Sports Medicine Department of Wakefield High School. To help better understand the injuries that the team encountered in the field, I enrolled in the Sports Medicine classes that were offered by the school. The classes were taught by the head athletic trainer for the school who believed in hands-on learning, especially for his student trainers. During the duration of the course and my time as a member of the team, I saw numerous different types of injuries; but there were three that occurred most often: an ankle sprain, a muscle strain, and a rotator cuff tear.
There is another course called Anatomy in Motion. It is all about the foot and how the foot mechanics influence the rest of the body and how those joints move. In terms of certifications for the states, the ones that I have are the highest level. Like NKT for example I completed 2 of the 3 levels in the states. I have been to the states a lot. Most of the courses I end up taking are in the states just because they do not offer them up in Canada. At is more of a standard in high schools and universities over there so I guess you could say they have advanced in certain areas. I know that Edmonton has AT’s in the schools but I do not know how many other cities are doing that. Calgary does not even have that as a standard for all schools yet.
