During Spring Break, I was able to make changes to my paper. I was able to finish my methodology, make edits by contacting my mentors and editors, and I am currently concluding my findings and research analysis. I also able to study and develop a better knowledge regarding qualified immunity (in regards to the Fourth Amendment and protection for police officers), police training (in regards to reasonable/excessive force), the rating at which African Americans are being killed by police, and last but not least, the corruption and power that lies beneath the criminal justice system. In terms of force, the issue is that the amount of force used to subdue an unwilling criminal is a judgment call by a police officer. There is no universally accepted
Getting rid of summer break would hurt a lot of students; they do not have the patience to go to school during the school year—taking away what is supposed to be their vacation could possibly break them.
Spring break is supposed to be one of the happiest times of the year: families go on vacation, students and employees can finally relax after months of hard work, and the horrible cold months are finally turning into beautiful, lively new ones. This is how most people would describe spring break, but for me and my family in April of 2010, this was not the case.
Many schools take the week off for students to repose which is called Spring Break. I really like spring break because it lets me take time off from school, and it lets me catch up with sports.
The minute that everybody has been expecting for has at long last arrived. The people are inclining toward the edge of their seats, listening for the last chime to ring to unleash them to freedom. We all love it when summer vacation has arrived, but the time just passes by so fast. A high percentage of the students want there to be a longer summer vacation, but are there really any benefits? Well yes in fact a longer vacation will be associated with many benefits such as increased social life, health benefits, and educational plus financial gains.
Like any other red-blooded American college student, you see spring break as a glimmering reminder that the darkness of midterm stress and seasonal affective disorder will soon be washed away in beachy sunlight. And lucky for you, it’s finally here! You’ll be interested to know that in my not-too-distant college years I discovered you can judge a person pretty well by their choice of spring break destination. So join me now, readers, as I do just that: judge you.
Spring break is nearing for area families and there is no shortage of entertainment to be had in the Wilmington area. This Delaware region located between New York City and Washington D.C. does not disappoint. Greater Wilmington offers opportunities for learning and fun, ranging from exploring area history to all-you-can-eat dining, and with no state sales tax in Delaware, the family dollar can stretch farther.
thing so that the students don’t forget everything they learned each year over the long breaks, but protesters of this say that summer vacation is the time where families usually plan their long vacations. The only thing wrong with this reason is that nowadays families don’t plan vacations around the season, and rather when their children are out of school, it just so happens that they are the same time during the year. “Some families appreciate the flexibility provided by year-round schooling, as it can be easier (and cheaper) to plan vacations during off-peak times,” (Leave Those Kids Alone: The Case for Long Summer Vacations 4). With it sometimes being really expensive during the peak summer months, some families choose to take vacations during the other parts of the year and therefore having their kids in year-round school will make it easier so that they don’t have to worry about their kids missing out on school.
How are you little human?! Have you grown yet? Did Mom finally let you get really long nails? Did you get into Honor Society? How’s dance going? Did the school year go well? How many competitions have you been to? Have you been to Orlando yet?
It was Friday, March 17, and it was a minute before 2:35pm in which we would get out of school. There was so much anticipation for the final bell to sound and start spring break. “Diiinnnnggg,” went the final bell. Everyone bolted into the hallways to get home and start the week.
I am eager to participate in the Alternative Spring Break trip for a variety of reasons. Foremost, I would otherwise be sitting at home for a week, so I feel this is a much more valuable use of my time. Secondly, I am seeking an opportunity to grow me as a student, as a leader, and as a young woman. I feel this opportunity would fulfill this tall order. Finally, I am especially excited about the mental health social issue; ending the stigma associated with mental illness is a personal issue that I am extremely passionate about.
The current issue of time off during the summer has resulted in fellow associates unable to take a summer vacation with family. The request off for a few associates has resulted in those associates in monopolizing the summer and resulting in others unable to use any PTO during such time.
According to an article on The College Solution by Lynn O 'Shaughnessy there is no variance in the difficulty of the SAT and ACT over the course of the year. However, based on the results of the statistical data there is a slight drop in scores during the winter months. This could be attributed to the colder weather, but there is no definite cause for this drop in scores. Scores also appear to drop during the summer months, this could be attributed to the lack of school during summer break. The author goes on to defend the accuracy of the data by presenting possible reasons for a disruption in the data, and how she has accounted for it, “There is a slight maturation effect/test-retest effect, as students taking the early fall tests are more likely to be seniors who have already taken the test than are students taking the early winter tests. This effect is relatively weak, because for every test date, we have students taking the test for the first time, others for the final time, some having prepped with us, others having gone in to the test without any prep. Each sample is a mixture, and the law of averages wins in the end. Our sample of students pursuing test prep, by no means a random sample, is clearly skewed toward the higher end of the score spectrum.” (Lynn O 'Shaughnessy). Therefore, according to the data there is little variation between scores and the time that the individual takes the test. On average students can expect to receive similar scores all year round,
Now that winter is just about here, it’s time to get your boiler ready for the colder temperatures. The last thing you want to deal with this winter is a broken boiler. This is particularly true if you live in a region that experiences freezing temperatures. To make sure your boiler is able to keep you warm all winter, here are four steps you should take to keep it functioning properly.
Over the summer I had a plethora of fun activities to do ; I practiced driving, went to the beach, and Universal Studios . My summer was lackadaisical when I stayed home for the whole day . I practiced driving in an abandoned parking lot and, turning the wheel was very difficult but at least it wasn’t a fiasco. I would say I’m off to a good start at driving. I went to the mall to buy clothes for school and not a lot of people and I was nonchalant.
The last school bell rings and the students from Anaheim High School run out of their classrooms, plenty proceed with their friends, others walk to their cars and a few go say goodbye to their favorite teachers. Finally summer vacation, numerous students travel out of state, others go home, throw away all of their unnecessary school papers and go to sleep. A month goes by and some don't bother picking up a pencil to practice math problems or write in their journal, some don't even bother picking up a book or a magazine to read therefore students start falling behind academically. In order to increase student success at Anaheim High School vacations need to be shorter in other words students need to spend more time in school. It is unnecessary for students to get 3 months of vacation. In the Collections book Marita's Bargain the author argues that students who get long vacations will bring bad consequences upon learning. “In other words, he could figure out, at least in part- how much of the achievement gap is the result of things that happen during the school year, and how much it has to do with what happens during summer vacation” (4). Here the author argues that while they’re in school they achieve more things than when they’re in vacation. Summer vacation is now over, students from Anaheim High School return to school many of them are with their friend’s others are worried/ scared because it is their first day of high school. The first bell rings and students start walking
