SPC’s vision Compassion, Connection, and Community are all alike in different ways. Compassion is to show concern for others. Connection is the association with others. Community is a group of people living in the same place. How are these alike you may ask? I believe the three of these each have to do with coming together. The community shows compassion, through connection with each other.
SPC’s commitment to the communities they serve is shown by how involved they are in the lives of their members and other organizations. Acts of Kindness is just one example of how SPC touches the lives of its communities. Organizations are awarded $500 grants through Acts of Kindness. Each grant is reserved for projects that seek to improve the lives
The Samaritan’s Purse is a “nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world...” (Samaritan’s). Not only does this charity provide aid to the destitute people of pagan countries, but it also provides the love and nurture of Christ Jesus to the lost souls of the world. For this reason, the Samaritan’s Purse is favored among Christians around the globe, although the Christian faith is not a requirement to donate to the cause of one’s choice. There are over twenty ministry projects one can donate to or even volunteer to be part of, including the following: Operation Christmas Child, The Greatest Journey, US Disaster Relief, and Children’s Ministries. Imagine
The acts of community service I have participated in FBLA has taught and strengthen my belief that charity is the most important gestures any person can due to have a beneficial impact in the world; is to help a person in need. For instances, our organization has collected Christmas gifts for underprivileged children in the Henry County community each year and the act of giving a child without access to toys for the holidays something as simple as a toy car has brought the greatest
This organization has made an effort to reach an “overarching goal of effecting sustainable social change by making a long-term impact on individuals, families and communities remains the guiding principle of the agency’s undertakings” (Catholic Charities of Los Angeles.org). The undertakings are all done through the compassionate measures which Jesus Christ showed to mankind. In all, through the power of the Holy Spirit, they strive for social justice for the vulnerable and poor.
I volunteered with Open Hands Atlanta for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and before I arrived at the volunteer site, I did not have an understanding of how impactful
In the course of my time at Union County College, I was able to participate in measures that aided my community and those in need. I took part in the donation and creation of care bags which were donated to the Salvation Army. This initiative was made by AESNJ as part of their statewide drive to help those who lack the resources needed to obtain day to day necessities such as hygienic supplies, socks, tissues and other essentials. Additionally, I made a financial contribution which went towards aiding Syrian children. Helping individuals in need encouraged me to participate in Strides against Breast Cancer a walkathon which generated money for women whose lives were impacted by cancer. The financial donations assisted women who were unable
Not only do the underprivileged citizens of the Detroit metropolitan area benefit from the kind acts of the P.B.J Outreach program, so do the volunteers. It is most common that people find themselves self-reflecting after being a part of P.B.J. There are not many volunteering programs like this one. One of the greatest characteristics of this group is that is it not hard to become involved in. Also, you are not obligated to be a regular participater. P.B.J encourages their volunteers to return, however, understands that times are busy and does not badger you to return. In my own experiences, P.B.J is the best program to receive community service hours, as well as a chance to get a personal understanding of what it means to truly help someone out. As watched some of the people go through the clothes line I asked myself what these individuals would do without this organization. Where were they to buy clothes with little to no money? There were many women with children that received clothing and food the day I volunteered. However, I distinctly remember this one women who gave me the tightest hug when I handed her a water. With a smile she said, “Thank you. You do not understand the help that this organization has been to me and my family. God Bless, Thank you.” It warmed my heart knowing that I was a part of something bigger, something that truly made
This means a little less than half of the money sacrificed is put to use in ways that affect people around you. Youth conventions, youth camps, PK retreats and young marriage seminars, some of the most life-changing events are made possible because of the sacrifice made by you and local churches. Since 1953, over $120 million has been raised to fund the ministries that SFC supports. The record of the largest offering in SFC’s sixty-three year-old history was broken in 2015, with an $501,129.89 increase. The offering alone in 2015, was $4,394,006.04. That’s a 12.87 percent increase! Over the past four years, that’s a combined total dollar increase of $1,352,600.37! Eleven districts set an all-time giving record. You and many other’s like you made this
These have included such non-profit events such as cleaning local lakes and waterways. Volunteering for certain events such as reading to kids in minority elementary schools, as well as traveling to various parts of the state to further spread the influence of our program as well as networking with associates from sintering programs. The impediments you encounter in life are set out to test an individual’s resilience and drive, what motivates a person to soar higher towards success is their passion and dedication’. An equivalent statement has always been my inherent conviction. Likewise, I have always remained an ambitious
Vision: - The main purpose of this service that every individual living enriched lives in comprehensive community.
For many years on end, our Earth has been thronged with poverty, sadness, and unfortunate events. It is nearly impossible to clear the world of tragedies in one sweep; however, if we can work together in small groups, our world will see a better future. Thus, community service and volunteerism is vital. As we build our own communities, the acts of kindness will spread to other locations, creating a successful ripple effect. With the force of the ripple effect, branching into more than one community at a time, who knows how much of the world we can affect at once? In order to see how large I could make my ripple, I believed that being a member of the Interact Club at Goshen High School would help me find the answer.
There are no words that can truly pull out that details of what I have received from volunteering at these events. Having seen the smiles on other people's’ faces, describes it quite enough. There is not a single thing in the world that can derive more joy in me than knowing that I had made someone smile;
It has always been part of my character to put others before myself. Being selfless can at times produce and either positive or negative outcome. Sometimes the negative outcome conduced an adverse response that lead me to invest, and place indifferent people before myself. Ultimately, I decided to use my quality in a way that would not only affect others in a positive way, but would also positively affect me. At the end of my sophomore year of high school, my friend Anthony told me about a community service organization called the Youth Advisory Council. The council is comprised of student representatives who focus on finding methods to solve issues within Riverside County's Fourth District.
Compassion drives human solidarity by encouraging us to sympathize with each other, and it is because of this reason that I believe it is the most essential Christian value. It can be challenging to be compassionate because as human beings we tend to think solely about ourselves and do a poor job acknowledging the feelings of others. If we lived in a world where everyone was compassionate towards one another, there would be a greater sense of love and peace rather than the violence, neglect, and hate that we see so often in our world today. Just by tuning into the news or by looking at my own community, I notice the many ways in which the value of compassion is being violated. Examples of this include bullying or hate speech, prejudice such
Often when using the words of empathy and compassion, many people envision them as having similar meaning. While they may share similar circumstances, they are actually quite different. Empathy is more of an emotional response with an understanding of a person’s particular situation; whereas compassion is an emotion that arouses an active response to alleviate a distressful situation. Nevertheless, these dissimilar expressions are paramount in the way people respond to the individual needs of others and how they reach out to others in their local communities. Barbara Lazear Ascher’s essay “On Compassion” not only creatively offers a very detailed description of the day in the life in New York City, but effectively draws a picture of
