St Botolph's Church is an Anglican place of worship in the village of Quarrington, part of the civil parish of Sleaford in Lincolnshire, England. By the time Domesday Book was compiled in 1086, a church in Quarrington was part of Ramsey Abbey's fee, and around 1165 it was granted to Haverholme Priory. The right to present the rector was claimed by the Abbey in the 13th century, by the Bishop of Lincoln in the early 16th century, and by Robert Carre and his descendants after Carre acquired a manor at Quarrington. The oldest parts of the current building date to the 13th century, although substantial rebuilding took place over the following century. Renovations followed and the local architect Charles Kirk the Younger carried out restoration
Ever since I was six years old, the year I was baptized, I have been on fire for the Lord. I attended a Christian school for eight years and have always been very involved at my church. My first experience outside of my “Christian bubble” was when I went to a public high school. For the first time in my life, I was out of my comfort zone. Being at a public school challenged my faith, strengthened my leadership skills, and forced me to branch out and meet people I would have never encountered otherwise. However, even though being at a public school helped strengthen my faith in ways I would have never guessed, I believe attending a Christian university—like Liberty—is the best choice to further my education. Going to college is new and exciting, but it can also be a demanding and intimidating experience. Being so far away from home, in a different environment,
The Protestant Reformation is responsible for creating many of the Christ following belief systems in the modern U.S.A. Therefore; it should be explored so we may have a deeper understanding and tolerance of the belief system in America as well as how it relates to religious movements in the past.
The saint I have chosen for Confirmation is Saint Catherine of Siena. Her feast day is April 29th. She is a patron saint of Italy, bodily ills, miscarriages, people judged for their piety, sexual temptation, sick people, nurses, and fire prevention. Saint Catherine of Siena even helped the poor and assisted the United States becoming peaceful. The reason I have chosen her is because when I’m older, I want to help people by becoming a nurse or something of that field, just like her.
Events of the 2nd Millenium AD such as the rise of renaissance culture, the rapid spread of heresy, and the development of the printing press all led to a radical transformation of society’s view on the Roman Catholic Church resulting in a loss of authority by the institution. This monumental event, the Protestant Reformation, started in 1517 A.D when Martin Luther made his list of grievances, 95 Theses, public. This provoked much debate and lead to the rejection of traditional Catholic teachings and authority and to the formation of many Protestant divisions such as the Lutheran Church, Calvinism, and quite a few more. One of the most early causes of the Protestant Reformation was the rise of Renaissance culture and its new philosophical ideas and art that introduced the first opposition to Catholicism’s role and teachings in society. Later on in this time period, the growth of heresy around 1100 A.D directly denounced the Catholic Church and sparked many new ideas on the issue. Finally, the printing press truly paved the way to the Reformation because it helped spread heresy and information quickly, in particular the document of
The Protestant Reformation, throughout the middle ages, had a truly impactful effect in Europe and the Roman Catholic Church. Before the reformation, all Christians in Europe were primarily Roman Catholic; for it had dominated European civilization. Along with the priest, who provided people with forgiveness of sins, marriage, baptizing and other important duties, the Catholic Church was the “caretaker of the soul” and also owned one third of all the land in Europe. Evidently, the Catholic Church was quite powerful and had great say in a European Christian’s daily living.

The Protestant Reformation was a time period where the Catholic Church was majorly questioned and people began to rebel and protest the church. Several things caused the Protestant Reformation such as an unequal distribution of wealth. Poor people couldn’t even afford food at times. With the addition of the poor, many people could not pay the indulgences. Indulgences were payments that people would make out to the church so that they could lessen their time spent in purgatory, the boundary between heaven and hell. Humanist ideas were also able to spread at this time so people knew what the church was doing to the people. The Catholic Church had several problems within as well. The Church needed to raise an abundant amount of money so they raised
During 16th century Europe, there was a major movement that came to be called the Protestant Reformation due to the many changes it invoked from the eager citizens of Europe unsatisfied by the current Catholic church. This movement challenged the Catholic church’s corrupt practices and policies that the leaders of the church were using to abuse its followers. Many historians have marked this time of reformation as the beginning of the modern era.
Named the first female doctor of the church for her spiritual wisdom, Saint Catherine of Siena was a very influential and complex figure in the medieval period. Her character showed great faith but in contrast she was also very strong, stubborn, and extreme woman. In class we talked about how the lives of holy women were shaped through their visions, fasting, virginity, and prayer (pilgrimage, devotion). Women would vow their virginity and do charitable work for their devotion to the Lord. Prayer in the community formed active religious communities. Saint Catherine formed roles for herself that went against the ideals of holy women. As a young girl she imitate desert hermits and gave up food but would feed others. The roles of women back then were to get married, have children, and look after the home. This was an important and expected role for women so to take a vow of virginity was a big deal.
The Protestant Reformation took place in Germany. At the time they had a fractured government with no centralized power, meaning the king had limited power. The Protestant Reformation was started because of a man named Martin Luther. Luther disagreed with many things the Catholic Church was doing and believed it to be corrupt. One of the main things he disagreed with was the sale of indulgences, as only the rich could afford to pay their way to heaven. He also believed the priest were not being properly trained as some of them could scarcely read

I enjoyed your post and though it was thorough as well as informative. I agree that the Roman’s creations such as roads, architect and their plumbing were remarkable and even seemed before their time. However, their expertise in providing structure and order were noteworthy as well. Therefore, it’s easy to see how seamless the transition from political power to religious power was, especially with the involvement of these Church Fathers. The contributions these Church Fathers made and the dedication they had for the early church was infallible. I definitely agree with your point that their individual contributions not only made an impact, but, was an integral part of the order and structure of the early church. From Augustine’s writings and
In the first half of the sixteenth century Western Europe experienced a wide range of social, artistic, political changes as the result of a conflict within the Catholic church. This conflict is called the Protestant Reformation, and the Catholic response to it is called the Counter-Reformation.
