Since 1984 Saint Francis has offered basic social services that potentially save the lives of several. As the organization itself says, Saint Francis house’s main mission is to “rebuild lives by providing refuge and pathways to stability for adults experiencing homelessness and poverty” (Saint Francis House 1). They do this by providing several services. Their services include: Food, daytime shelter, clothing, showers and toiletries, and mail & ID services. Going over the services in more depth, the food department makes sure each homeless person is fed. They serve breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the first floor dining area every day. Additionally, they provide back up food / emergency sandwiches at 2:45 am for anyone that may need it at night. Just over the last year they served 220,000 meals, showing the impact it has within the people they serve in Boston. Moreover, the clothing distribution center, rather “Fresh Threads” focuses on being a center for clothing items. Here, the person can register for an appointment where they can get dressed from head to toe. They can receive an outfit, outerwear, footwear, accessories or any other seasonal item. Additionally, the day center offers a shower, toothbrush and toiletries items to those that need it, and establishing an email or mail system offers a secure and safe place for the homeless to receive mail for whatever reason. Interestingly, a personal favorite activity here is
The number of chronic homeless individuals has dropped 30 percent from 2007 to 2014. Despite that, still about 15% of homeless people are mentally ill (“Chronic Homelessness – Overview”). An example of the effects of hospitality for this cause is the Carriage House. The Carriage House is a clubhouse in Indiana that assists those who are recovering from mental illnesses. Workers at the house provide these individuals with prepared meals, help with Medicaid billings, and with education in hopes that they can acquire a job. The executive director of this facility said, “We’re trying to change the face of mental illness in the whole world.” Programs like this one are a step in the right direction to achieve that goal, but if more people can assist these individuals with the appropriate help, there is no reason for why that goal cannot be met. With all these causes of homelessness in the United States, surely there is something the public can help
A letter to hospital administration, to be determined after some research on who may be the most receptive. The program includes highlighting the issue of homelessness, mental health concerns and the consequences of their use of the emergency room services. The creation of homeless services to be able to obtain non-medical essential services without having to claim an illness to receive food, shelter or other basic needs. Allowing the homeless to receive food, warmth or other requirements without tying up vital medical personnel with false complaints to gain access to address their nonmedical needs. The request to present a plan of action with data and research to all parties of interest and who could be of assistance.
The center is a day-time shelter, with long dining tables and chairs with a sitting capacity of 160 for homeless people. I observed the daily activities of card playing, loud laughter of happy people and chatter about what lunch might be at the homeless resource center. I noticed people starting forming a line against the wall. I checked the time and saw it was 11:15 a.m. a conditioned time for people to line up to eat lunch. More people entered the front door after being scanned in through a finger print process, which extended

I go to St. James every other Wednesday. On Wednesday, the food truck is delivered to St. James Food Pantry. The assignment for the day is listed on the white board in the back of the pantry. The assignments state what bag a volunteers are doing and what contents needs to be in each bag. In each bag, the items will consist of one item from each food group on the food pyramid. St. James is about supplying their clients with nutritional food because they want to help clients not only physical but mental. After filling the bags that the specific person is assigned to, volunteers go to help other groups and organized shelves. At that time any open cases of food: are either stock them or put them in any assigned bags. Before lunch time, volunteers start to prepare the homeless lunch and for nutrition class. My job tasks, is to prepare the homeless lunch and lunch table. I have to prepare about forty-five sandwiches, desserts, chip and juices for the homeless in zip-codes St. James serves.
Services offered include mental health treatment, physical health care, education and employment opportunities, peer support, and outreached engagement workers. There are a variety of treatment options to choose from. The plan chosen for the treatment is flexible. Services are available that will help people enter back into their community. Mentally ill homeless are more likely to recover and regain stability if they are a part of a supported housing program. Ones that have gone to programs that are similar to the supported housing programs but do not have engagement from the workers, are homeless within six months of being out of the program. Some homeless have had a bad experience with rehabilitation centers. They say that they felt invisible or looked down upon due to their mental state and their living situation. The people who say this state they will never go through that feeling
Government-funded human services are defined in specific terms in relation to state-level administrative structures and the state’s annual budget. These services do not technically include significant portions of the budget devoted to health care and education. Human services—thus narrowly defined—are primarily delivered by the Department of Human Services (IDHS), Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS), Department of Aging (DoA), Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA). When defined in this manner, human services account for over 23% (over $6 billion) of the current fiscal year’s (2010) State Operating Budget.
Social Care Theory for Practice Assessment As a professional working in a Social Care setting it is important to have an understanding of the responsibilities you have to each individual within your care and to recognize and respect their rights. The National Care Standards were developed as a guideline to ensure care workers support their service users in the manner at which they deserve, it allows the care worker to support each individuals needs based on the view point of the people using the service, The Scottish Government. (2014).These standards of care are based on a set of principles such as Dignity, Privacy, Choice, Safety, Realising potential and Equality and Diversity. Throughout my personal experience I have

The homeless and low-income families have numerous resources available like the Interfaith Church that offers a Soup Kitchen Supplemental Nutrition program that is made up of these sources: commodity supplemental food program, emergency food program, food assistance, and USDA commodity program. The number of soup kitchen meals served peaked in July to just over 50,000, and were the lowest in April at just under 40,000. Majority of their clientele is homeless adults. Another good resource is Social services that can assist with charitable healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or S.N.A.P. These programs help to provide access to health care and proper food and nutrition. The Affordable Housing Project offers studio apartments, 1-bedroom
Co-ordination of Services in Social Care My setting is linked with SENCO (Special Education Needs Co-ordinater) and Ofsted to ensure the child receives the rights it deserves i.e. education. In the project I am to show how the role of each service and how it is linked to my setting. Each year, parents of children with disabilities have the important responsibility of working with school personnel to develop an appropriate educational program individualised to their child's needs. With the increase the increase in inclusive practices and a growing awareness of the rights of all children, perceptions of special educational needs (SEN) are changing in the community in general and in education
The present study focused on understanding the interactions and attitudes of volunteers at Mary’s Kitchen who interacted with the guests that are currently homeless. This study revealed that having positive interactions, providing comfort and respect is important in order to welcome the guests to the shelter. Other studies that have been conducted have
Contracting out is the process through which public organizations contract with private sector organizations to provide services normally provided by public agencies. It is a form of privatization, which is defined as any shift of activity or functions from the state to the private sector, more specifically, the shift of production of goods or services from public to private. (Starr, 5) Privatization reduces the role of government and increases the role of private sector agencies. However, public agencies maintain ultimate control over the provision of services and they control government funding.
