TJ gets himself in trouble with R.W. and Melvin Simms, two white brothers. The boys only want TJ around so they have someone to put the blame on and make fun of him. When TJ wants a very nice handgun at the Barnett Mercantile, the Simms brothers fool him into thinking that his dream is about to come true. RW and Melvin convinced TJ to try to steal the gun. They were caught in the act and the brothers punished TJ horribly. TJ tapped on the Logans door in the middle of the night. Stacey and Cassie answered the door. They knew they had to help him despite the negative acts against their family. “Stacey? I whispered afraid of what he might do. As far back as I could remember, Stacey had felt a responsibility for TJ I had never really understood why. Perhaps he felt that even a person as despicable as TJ needed someone he could call “friend”, or perhaps he sensed TJ’s vulnerability better than TJ did himself. Stacey, you ain’t goin’ are you?... You go on back to bed Cassie. I’ll be alright.” (pg. 249) This quote is a prime example of Stacey’s courage. Stacey knows that helping TJ could get him in trouble or even killed. Stacey is a true friend, and a brave one too.

In this book, everyone was part of a gang and everyone looked at each other as either a Soc ,or a Greaser. Johnny, who has been abusively beaten while getting jumped and from his own father at home, and Pony save children from a burning house. No one would expect the hoodlums to risk their lives to save children. They have a reputation for doing illegal things and getting arrested. However, newspapers have stories on the two and labelled them as “heroes”. Dally, who was the toughest and baddest of all the Greasers, kills himself. The true reason behind this was because after going to the hospital to visit Johnny, he witnessed watching him die right in front of his eyes. Johnny’s death makes him rob a store and having the police intentionally kill him. The only thing that he loved was Johnny and his beloved thing was gone. This shows that Dally, even though he’s a Greaser and does all these horrible things, has feelings. Even people who genuinely knew him, labelled him as having no feelings. Also, Randy, who is a soc, talks to Pony about Bob and how he was just a regular guy who had his own problems. The only reason that Bob would act out and drink a lot was because his parents would never set boundaries. He just wanted for someone to tell him “No”. The story is the journey of Robert Hoge and his life with artificial legs and deformed face, and all the challenges he faced along the way.

Violet Duran being a protagonist of the novel “Feed” by M.T Anderson stood out the most. To me she wasn't just some girl, she was different. titus was drawn to her and from the minute him and his friends started talking to her at the moon, they noticed she wasn't like them.
