Firstly, in my Academic Career, I have held a multitude of leadership roles. My sophomore year , I was a class representative for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, commonly known as FCCLA. It was my duty to alert members and keep them up to date regarding meetings and activities. As a representative of FCCLA, I learned how to work as a unit leader and a team member.That same school year, I ran for the district office of secretary for FCCLA. The nomination and election process, gave me the opportunity to grow and nurture my leadership abilities. It was eminently challenging; but I learned the importance of discipline and hard work. Leadership has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always found myself taking on leadership roles, whether it be by volunteering or coordinating different projects for the benefit of my school or community. Taking on leadership positions has allowed me to develop skills in communication, delegation, and managing multiple tasks and deadlines. As a member of National Honor Society and an officer of Student Council, I am presented with various opportunities to show my leadership skills. For example, I have been in charge of planning multiple pep assemblies for my school. Growing up in a small town, it is crucial that every individual get involved. This has pushed me to stay active in athletics, National Honor Society, student government, FFA, band, choir, play production, speech, and CYO. I take every organization I am involved with seriously and have earned some leadership positions: FFA News Reporter, Volleyball & Basketball Captain, Class President, and Student Council Member. You see a girl with brown eyes, chestnut hair, and you notice she is slightly above the average height. On first glance, she seems ordinary, maybe slightly above standard. However, your impulsive expectation couldn’t be more wrong. While she is involved in orthodox activities in her school; playing basketball, regularly attending scholar’s bowl meets, and holding the office of secretary in her FFA chapter, she steps up to be engaged in statewide and nationally renowned events that helped shape her into who she is today.

I have learned from fellow classmates and peers on how to become a selfless leader and follower thinking of others above myself. My main motive in getting involved with my community and school is to improve our school and community. In AFJROTC I have done over 250 hours of community service just within ROTC and have done over 1,000 community service throughout my community and school. I believe in selfless actions to help benefit my neighbor and peer to overall make us both superior. I occupy my time in clubs and activities that both captivate my interest and are most important for my peers and me. This summer, I accepted an invitation to participate in the Dale Carnegie Young Adult Leadership Program. Attendees of this program learned several skills that can be applied to future experiences, especially on how to become an effective leader. Over the course of this semester, I have learned about the theoretical foundation of leadership and management. From various leadership styles to numerous learning tools have all aided in shaping me to become an effective leader not only in the health care profession, but everyday life as well. Through utilizing these tools, I have managed to put them into actions through working individually and in teams which has helped me to learn more about myself and the type of leader I am. Throughout this action plan I will reflect on my definition of leadership, what I’ve learned about myself in the capacity to demonstrate leadership, my leadership strengths and weaknesses and three action steps that will help me to develop my leadership in the future.

Leadership Hot Springs offers so many opportunities and experiences for youth in our area and I feel there is so much for me to gain and benefit from being a part of this program. For me, being a part of Leadership Hot Springs excites me not only for the opportunities it will bring me but what I will hopefully be able to bring to the program and to our community as well.
