The Honors College at ECU should admit an exceptional students such as myself because I consider my education to be the paramount element for my success in the near future. Although I am a student athlete I never forsake my education for my sport, track, because I know that my sport will only take me as far as a scholarship to ECU but won't be of much help after that. As I consider my education above my sport, I tutor my team mates in math because that's what they have a hard time understanding. Not only do I tutor but my teammates and I also volunteer around the community by raking leaves and shoveling snow during the fall and winter which helps us out if they would like to support the team with a donation. I like to hold myself to a higher
The Honors Program student embodies the virtues of independence, academic talent, intellectual curiosity, and persistence. In a brief essay, of approximately 500 words, please tell us how your reasons for admission to the Honors Program as well as your long and short terms academic goals speak to these four virtues. In doing so, you might consider the following questions:
The Suny Stony Brook Honors College would be a perfect fit for me for a wide array of reasons. Even though I may not seem like a suitable candidate for this program by being part of this program I will gain the extra motivation to work harder at my work. The Honors College provides its students the opportunity to participate in research at its highest level. This is very important to me because in High school I did research at a university and this helped me learn a great deal about the topic and by doing research in Stony Brook I can better understand my major. Also in the honors college these students are given the chance to be close with the faculty. This will greatly give beneficial to me because it will help me learn much better when I
Joining the Honors College will develop my authenticity, not in the sense that I will be a more honest person, but rather, that I will know more about myself and have better reasoning behind my beliefs. The challenging course load that Honors Students face requires a deeper level of reflection. Students must not only know the material, but have a solid foundation behind it. This forces students to question their worldly views, resulting in a reformed person both socially and academically. Striving for a deeper understanding requires my views to constantly evolve.
I would be honored to be part of the Marshall High School National Honors Society because I enjoy helping out the community in many ways. I like the feeling of knowing I helped out the community. In the future, I would like to take some of the qualities I may acquire from NHS on to college and future communities; team work, communication, leadership, time management, and taking the initiative are all qualities I believe are very important for the future. Being in NHS would help push me to do well in not only school, but everyday life as well. I believe NHS will help motivate and inspire me to go above and beyond out of my comfort zone to try new things.
National Honors Society has guided me to become a better citizen, to help others, and to excel and pursue in my dreams. Leadership is the pillar that has changed me the most. It taught to not just tell others what to do, but to help them know how to do their tasks. It taught me to help others and to guide. Service has taught me to help those in need, no matter how demanding or compact the task. I learned that everybody is needing help in one way or another, and most don't even ask for assistance. However, any aid provided can make an impact. Scholarship has taught me that school is what guides us to our full potential. I would not have fully grasped this pillar without the help of my teachers, parents, and peers to support me and cheer me on.
The college representatives are elected, rather than appointed because of the nature of their role in the Honors Program. They are intended to represent their constituents based on the fact that they are in the same academic field and will share similar interests. The college representatives will best represent the citizens of their respected colleges because they share common interests according to their shared field of interest. For instance, a citizen who majors in Mathematics would not have their interests properly represented by a citizen who majors in social work. Instead, the citizen who majors in Mathematics would match better with a fellow STEM major such as a citizen who majors in chemistry, who can relate more to the math major citizen
Education and learning expert, Carol Dweck, says “For no matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into an accomplishment.” This is the philosophy I adhere to. Throughout high school, I have strived to take the harder classes and to challenge myself instead of taking the GPA boosting classes. Life only delivers the amount that you are willing to give. I am and always have been willing to go the extra mile and to push myself to new limits. I want to continue this philosophy throughout college by taking the more rigor courses that the honors program will offer. I believe I have the passion, the perseverance, and the strength to achieve these goals.
Throughout my educational experience, I have always been captivated by the French language and culture. My intellectual curiosity of French has constantly driven me to explore the language beyond an educational setting. As a result of learning French, I realized its positive impression on my life and its lasting impact on our globalized world.
The role of the Honors College in the education of utilizing critical thinking skills should be to further the analytical, communication, and creative thinking abilities of its students. Foremost, the Honors College should expand students’ learning styles by giving assignments and providing study materials that stimulate auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning. In high school, most students will discover the one learning technique that works best for their needs, yet being able to study in multiple perspectives will help students expand their analytical approaches to problem solving. Furthermore, students should be provided with the opportunity to participate in challenging curriculum with a variety of subjects effecting modern society
In the upcoming year, I would like to focus and work on my leadership skills, one of the four pillars of the National Honors Society. This year I was elected Vice President of marketing for the Jupiter High School DECA chapter. This role will help me with my leadership goal by teaching me the responsibilities of being part of/taking charge a larger group. it is now my responsibility to create invitations, direct social media, membership, and advertising the chapter and its activities. I am the head of a group of four directors who help me carry out and delegate these duties. in the next year, I plan to get all things done in a timely manner and treat all my responsibilities with equal value and necessity. Leadership is also about influencing
Joining the Schreyer Honors College would not only enhance my academic experience with great opportunities and research projects but also give me a chance to explore the
Oberlin attracts me as a institution because of the role of leadership it takes within the country historically. As the world becomes more interconnected with new technologies, as a nation, I believe we face a new issue of how to react to events that happen to our neighbors and kin around the globe. Though Oberlin College does maintain some "traditional American values", the school also steps ahead compared to most other colleges when it comes to the institution's mission and goal. Therefore, seeing Oberlin's progressive visions that have bettered countless communities, I am thrilled to become a part of the student body that enlightens a new, interconnected generation of world citizens. Another aspect of Oberlin College that excites me is the
For me the Honors Program means so much more than six simple letters, Honors represents students who are driven, passionate and have integrity. Throughout my life I have followed my moral compass and constantly strive to better myself each and every day. Looking back I remember a specific event during fourth grade that will forever impacted how I approach tasks in life. I was working until 1:00 AM on a project, tears rolling down my cheeks, as I tried to make it absolutely perfect. The next day we turned the assignment in and everyone got ten points for having it done. I was incredibly disappointed but it was at that moment I realized that the choice I made and the effort I put into the assignment was for myself, for my learning and not
To be blatantly honest, I am extremely qualified to be a student in the Honors College at ECU. My GPA and grades show my ability to succeed in a challenging environment and my dedication to learning. By the time I graduate in May, I will have completed the requirements for an Associate in Arts and an Associate in Science. Unless something absolutely catastrophic occurs, I will graduate with a 4.0 GPA from Beaufort County Community College. My success in the early college program demonstrates that I have the ability to excel at East Carolina University as well. Many of my instructors have praised me for my hard work, attention to detail, and writing ability. Beyond just my grades and test scores, there is another reason why I will thrive in
As someone who works hard for what she wishes to accomplish, a group of like minded individuals behind me would only help me accomplish my goals. Living in Gibson, I have had the opportunity already to observe the mentality of honors students. Seeing what they have already accomplished in one semester, revealed to me what I would be a part of if I indeed join the honors program. They help each other
