In my experiences, I learned a valuable lesson about not staying up after midnight. I wasn't a troublemaking kid at home or school, but I had one major issue that affects my primary dream. In the Winter 2012, I used to be a night owl staying up very late in middle school. Mainly, I'll be staying up all night to watch random online videos, TV shows, and playing video games.
However, my mother caught me staying up somewhere around 2 am. I am maintaining my urge not to continue using my electric devices. Unfortunately, I pursue bad habit of active at night and recently got more into trouble. One night, my mother had enough night addiction and took my dream of participating in my school track and field. With the purpose of losing my tracks privilege, I became frustrated and heartbroken. The track events were like my all-time beloved sport, it made me feel free to escape reality. It was a dreadful year to not interact with a new obstacle and pushing myself further beyond my limit. Running was a part of me, it was a heavy burden that I had to learn.

In “High Schools Starting Later to Help Sleepy Teens” by Michelle Trudeau and “High Schools Will Keep Starting Too Early.Here’s why.” by Dan Weissman they both have their own perspectives on life about school starting times and the problems they may bring to the students of high schools.In Michelle Trudeau’s story she says that the starting times for high schools has many students still very drowsy and tired most of the time having them nod off during school instruction.She states that in an average high school 20% of students fall asleep in class on a typical day.Therefore, in need to prevent this from happening teens need more sleep as opposed to them not getting enough sleep from either staying up late or period as some experts say.There are many ways to add additional support for teens and their sleep.
Should middle schoolers have a bedtime? Middle schoolers should not have a bedtime. Obviously, they are not babies. Bedtime is for young children. Middle and high schoolers should be able to go to bed when they choose. The reasons for no bedtime for middle and high schoolers is because kids this age should make their own choices, they need to learn when to call it a night, and learning from the mistake of not sleeping enough which teaches good responsibility and habits.

Imagine having the perfect life- you get into all honors classes, you get straight A’s, you are the first chair in the orchestra, you get into the A Cappella choir, you are on the varsity volleyball team, President of the Student Council, and you have a perfect home life. You have never had to face a single obstacle throughout your journey in life. When your whole life is like this, you do not know what failure feels like and will never experience the need to rise up after a downfall. There are many types of journeys one can take in life and dealing with obstacles has a prodigious impact on the outcome. The obstacles and hindrances are the things that shape us as we experience the ups and downs in life.
There are two kinds of people: the ones that are willing to give up after seeing the first obstacle in their way and the ones that are willing to turn the same obstacle in their favor. Any problem, may it be an obstacle or a disadvantage, can always be turned into something good if you believe you can do it. Duke Ellington, the legendary jazz pianist, said that a problem is a chance to do your best, and I agree with him. When people learn from their problems, it can help them in many ways. They can learn how to do things better in the future, they can learn more about themselves and what they like or dislike, and they can even be used to help someone who is having trouble with the same issue(s).

I consider myself generally to be a fault finder when unfavorable events in my life occur. My brain naturally focuses on the negativity in a situation rather than the positive. Examples such as; a bad test score, an interview for a job but not receiving a position, and performing poorly on other school assignments, are all events when I have found myself thinking and focusing on what I did wrong. After completing this activity, I was able to think in a way that made me re analyze my examples and actively find a positive from each situation. A bad test score could positively motivate me to change my study habits or better understand how the upcoming tests in class will be structured.
Once stated by Vince Lombardi, “The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.” This quote connects so much to how life obstacle can influence a positive outlook on many thing. I spoke with one of my close friend, they once stated how they used to hang with the wrong crowd of boy. Smoking, drinking, fighting, and failing in school. My friend got caught up one day been around his crowd of friends who happen to be in an argument with someone else.

When entering school, many teenagers look like zombies with their eyes half shut and posture sagging. This lack of sleep causes many problems, both physically and mentally. Therefore, in order to help students throughout the nation, school times should be changed and started later.
