1. One of the pyramids that I will be comparing and contrasting is the step pyramid. I was dated 2630-2575 BCE. . It is located in Saqqara, Egypt. The other pyramid is called Pyramid ("El Castillo"). It is dated from ninth to twelfth century. It is located in Yucatan, Mexico. 2. The step pyramid has a six steps layered on top of each other and it is 204 feet tall. It is brown and made of bricks that seem to be turning into dust. There is a brick fence surrounding the pyramid. It has rectangular shaped base. There are piles of rubble all over the place. It looks its starting to fall down and come apart. I see the sed-festival complex. El Castillo looks gray. It has stairs on four sides. It has a little temple on top of the pyramid. It contains nine layered steps. 4. The pyramid of Djoser and The pyramid of El Castillo are both stepped pyramid. Both of the pyramids step go from a huge platform and decrease in size as it goes up. They have four sides. Their bases are four sided.
5. The stepped pyramid of Djoser forms a three-dimensional structure. The bottom platform is shaped as a rectangle. The texture of the pyramid looks kind of rough. The color used is brown from the bricks giving it a plain appearance and makes me think of a desert. The outlines of the step are geometric forming rectangle on top of each other and as it is going inwards. It has a flat roof structure as the sides slope diagonally. The steps also give a horizontal line. The pyramid contains mass and volume as it reach's about 204 feet in height and it appears to be very wide at the

A pyramid was made to be the final resting place for the previous pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. The pyramids were intended to keep the Pharaoh's corpse from decaying thus allowing the spirit to travel the next life freely. The pyramid held the Pharaoh’s many belongings and possessions. Pharaohs were perceived as a mortal god on Earth. As such the people were eager to please their Pharaoh. They helped build the massive structure so the Pharaoh would protect them in the afterlife. The citizens thought the Pharaoh’s spirit would remain to take care of them once the Pharaoh had died. Before the Pharaoh relinquishes life he/she would decree what type of pyramid they would favor. There were true pyramids, stepped, meidum, and bent. Stepped pyramids represented the stars, while true pyramids represented the sun. When the sun became more significant to the religion true pyramids became more pleasing. Stepped pyramids were designed to be a stairway to the stars. While smooth sided pyramids portray the sun’s rays, and were for spirits to glide up to heaven. That is why pyramids were
Both the Mayan and Egyptians constructed one of the most greatest and well known tourist site of today's generation. (Shneiderman) The Mayan pyramids were built on Yucatan peninsula in Central America or what is now Guatemala. While the pyramids of Giza were built in Egypt. (Travel Guide) The Mesoamerican pyramids or in other words Mayan pyramids were built around 300 B.C. and 500 A.D. On the other hand according to Gustafson the pyramids of Giza were built around 2550 B.C. to 2490 B.C. (Shneiderman) Since the pyramids of Giza were built west of the Nile River, this created a space of isolation for the sculptors to build each pyramid. Similar for the Mayan pyramids they did not have the desert, but they had the jungle to create the barrier of their isolated land to make the pyramids.
Of the three theories on how the Great Pyramid was built, in descending order of acceptability, the most suitable theory is Clifford Wilson’s followed by Joseph Davidovits’ and Erich Von Däniken’s argument. Clifford Wilson’s theory is the best because he illustrates how the pyramids were built and provides the evidence to prove his theory, however; this is unlike Joseph Davidovits’ theory because Davidovits does not fully answer questions that arise concerning his theory. The three theories have similar points, but contain very different ideas on the construction of the Great Pyramid. This is obvious in Clifford Wilson’s argument where he is repeatedly disproving Von Däniken’s theory that the “gods” created the pyramids, whereas in
The history started in 2650 B.C.E at the death of King Djoser. His architect, Imhotep, built a design of pyramid called the Step Pyramid. This was supposed to represent a large stairway to which he would climb up to the sun-god in the sky. This sparked the interest in pyramids, which soon gave ideas to other architects.
This pyramid has four sides which is about 100 feet from the base and in each side there are 91 steps which grand totals 365 including the steps to enter the temple which represents the number of days in a year.
The primary structures were located on the central road referred to us dead. The structures and streets were designed in a way that vividly resembled the natural landscape with beautiful mountains and valley. The art masterpiece was calculated, designed and put into the land that long-lasting mark is phenomenal. The Pyramid was built to have its grand stairway faced westward. This was planned for the usage of the Pyramid. It faces to the Sun when it sets. People resided in traditional wooden houses, other high-status people, both religious and political leaders lived in well-built stone houses that were smartly decorated, and even with better drainage
Before choosing to write my research paper over this structure, I had decided to write over the three pyramids. After reading the first chapter of the Ancient World, I was interested in finding out more about these three pyramids. I would learn about them in high school or hear something about them in books, movies and sometimes the History channel. I just thought they were three pyramids that were created as art. In which these pyramids were created as temple for the Kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaura. The pyramids were to protect the bodies and the items these kings needed for the afterlife. After exchanging a few words with my professor I decided to write over the Mortuary Temple Hatshepsut. It never caught my attention to write over this
Also, in Yucatan Peninsula, the Uxmal is the largest city. About 25,000 Maya lived in Uxmal no wonder why the pyramid was the tallest and the biggest pyramid. The Uxmal is at the center of other buildings, in another word the Uxmal was the capital of the Yucatan Peninsula. The Pyramid was basically built for the Maya people to live there not for another thing just a home for the Maya people. The people that research the Pyramid of the Magician say that the pyramid was built overnight by a dwarf that supposedly was hatched from an egg. Also, the dwarf overpowers the ruler that was already there and became the new ruler of the City which will be the Uxmal. They also call it the Dwarf's Pyramid because of the story of the dwarf building the pyramid. As time passed about 10th century A.D. Uxmal was abandoned, the Uxmal now today is an exhibit for people to visit and see a lot of things that the Mayas did on the structure. The people that visit the place need to pay about twenty pesos. Once they enter the people cannot walk on the stairs from past experience they had because the pyramid is tall and they don't want any problems. The only place they can walk on the stairs is on the other smaller buildings around the
This was a real pyramid built by the Pharaoh Sneferu in the Old kingdom, the first peak of Egyptian civilization. The Red Pyramid, though, wasn’t originally red. It used to have white Tura limestone as its casing. However, the pyramid’s white layers eventually was stripped away to make new buildings in Cairo, showing the pink granite underneath and giving it a reddish color.
Located at the northwest of the city of Memphis, the pyramid of Djoser (Step Pyramid) is one of Egypt's most famous pyramids. As it was the first stone super structure in Egypt. This magnificent structure was constructed by Djosers chief architect, Imhotep. He revolutionized architecture by attempting to build the first pyramid. Imhotep created the step pyramid by stacking smaller mastabas on top of each other. In short, the pyramid of Djoser is definitely a point of interest, especially if you want to see evolution of pyramids.
Contrary to popular belief the Mayans built more, and bigger pyramids than the Egyptians. 3 Egyptian Pharaohs built the three most famous pyramids, and only a few others were built. Mayans had hundreds spread throughout what is now southern Mexico. Mayans are also credited for building the biggest pyramid in the world. So large, in fact, Spanish settlers came across this pyramid and thought it was a mountain because it was abandoned and overgrown. Both civilizations used these pyramids as a place of worship. Mayans however, had step pyramids, symbolizing that many could be closer to the gods. Whereas in Egyptian culture Pharaohs and higher class Egyptians, were the only ones who could have success in the afterlife.
The prevalent Pyramid Texts along these lines deciphered unprecedented for English with the talk were found engraved on the dividers of five pyramids at Saḳḳâreh, the old necropolis of Memphis in Egypt. These pyramids are those of the rulers Unis of the Fifth Dynasty, and Teti, Pepi I, Merenrē and Pepi II of the Sixth Dynasty. To this translation has been incorporated that of starting late discovered additional messages, parallel and comparing, in the pyramids of Oudjebten, Neit, and Apouit, leaders of Pepi II, and of Ibi, a ruler of the Seventh Dynasty, of whom little apparently is known. In this way, according to the presently recognized request, these pyramids were produced and apparently recorded between the years around 2350
Intended to hold his mummified body, Pharaoh Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara began as a traditional, flat-roofed mastaba. But by the end of his 19-year reign, in 2611 B.C.E, it had risen to six stepped layers and stood 62 meters high. It was the largest building of its time. Extensive use of stone, wood, reeds, or other softer materials made the tomb more durable than its mud-brick forebears. Such pioneering techniques led many ancient historians to credit the chief architect, Imhotep, with inventing stone architecture. The Step Pyramid complex was enclosed by a 10 meters wall and included courtyards, temples, and chapels covering nearly 40 acres (16 hectares) the size of a large town in the third millennium B.C. As in earlier mastaba tombs, the Step Pyramid's burial chambers are underground, hidden in a maze of tunnels, probably to discourage grave robbers. The tomb was nevertheless plundered, and all that remains of Djoser, the third king of Egypt's 3rd dynasty, is his mummified left foot. It consists of internal passageways and chambers. It is known that this pyramid has the most
In the deserts of Egypt lie the colossal remains of an ancient civilization. These enormous works of human endeavor are the only member of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World that time has passed down to us. These are, of course, the great pyramids of ancient Egypt. But these imposing structures were not built to impress civilization millennia down the road. The pyramids in fact had a purpose to the ancient Egyptians. While they seem very simple in nature, as they are simply four-sided pyramids with square bases, they had a meaning for those that had them built. Even by today’s standards, the pyramids of ancient Egypt were an impressive feat of engineering, due to their enormous size, both in building materials and finished product.
