Adoff makes music with the words and space in “Street Music” by writing all the descriptive words by separating each letter of the word with spaces and the words that made a sound would be written normally, without spaces in between the letters. For example, at the beginning of the poem, the speaker describes the city and where the noise in this city is coming from. Hence, he separated his words into letters with spaces, an example from is when the speaker states that “T h i s c i t y:/ t h e / a l w a y s / n o i s e / g r i n d i n g” (1-5). Another example of this is “an o r c h e s t r a” (24). On the other hand, words that are used for the actual sounds are written normally in this poem, such as “slamming from bus tires” and “taxi horns”
The music industry has undeniably evolved over time and through the betterment of technology, music has the ability to be heard worldwide. Most artists become popularized through the internet and social media, but numerous composers have become well-known through the music they produce for movies. Soundtracks are extremely popular today, especially with the ever growing entertainment industry. One cannot simply hum a tune from a classic Disney film or any other well-known film without others recognizing the piece. The relevance of soundtracks in our culture today would make the main theme from the film “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” a perfect piece to include in this course.
Music is often just a medium, utilized by artists, to paint a vivid picture in the minds of the listener. As a listener, often you can be caught off guard by the artists ability to do so. In the song fast car by Tracy Chapman, the incredible singer/songwriter will do just that. She will render an image so graphic, and so dramatic, that you will swear that you were walking in the shoes of the woman she sings about in her song. The gracefully flowing melody and emotionally evolving lyrics transport you through an undeniably extraordinary journey of joy and sorrow, all within the confines of a four minute and fifty-nine second song.
During the late 1980s, two brothers from Leith, Scotland, formed a Celtic rock band called The Proclaimers which gained popularity in Europe. After their first hit album, The Proclaimers released a second album called Sunshine on Leith, and from that album came their most famous song, “I’m Gonna Be 500 Miles,” which woul¬¬¬¬d reach number one on the charts in New Zealand and Australia, as well as number 3 on the charts in the United States. Later in 2013, a cover of “I’m Gonna Be 500 Miles” was recorded by Sleeping at Last, an alternative rock band formed in 1999. Both of these covers have distinct and noticeable differences, including, genre, feel, lyrics, and instrumentation. Comparing these two songs, it is easy to see the reflections of the different artists who produced them.

On November 10th from 12:30 to 1:30, Taxi Chain performed a free concert in The Family Martin at York University. Grier Coppins founded Taxi Chain in 1993. They offer bluesy jigs and strong overtones of old school funk, R&B, rock n roll, country, folk and world music. This vast amount of styles allowed for their performance to be very intriguing. The styles are versatile, daring and fun (York university website). The setting of the performance was at The Family Martin Lounge, so the environment was relaxed. Everyone was doing their own thing in addition to listening. The atmosphere of the space was relaxed and most people were just doing their own thing while getting to enjoy the fantastic music that was being played. Truthfully, I choose this
In my viewpoint, everyone was preparing for the day in which they should give the answers. every group should have one response form the clues that they have. Each pair had different answers, which were wrong except judge Ford and Sandy. however, they decided to give no answer to protect Westing's ex-wife in page (138). Crow was worried because she felt that they will know about her in page (139). When they shared their responses, Sydelle was the closest one to the answer because of the words song in page (145). However, she chose the wrong person from the song, which was Otis Amber in page (146). Then, judge Ford gave them time to give another answer individually in page (148). They sat watching each other to think who the answer is. Wile
Wazzam...Yeet... Take an L. What the heck do these words even mean? Generation by generation, language shifts and words take on new interpretations causing these words to be the "superlative" words and more confusing than ever. Why does this happen? Because, teens want to "fit in," and social media has become such a major influence on youth that it is as if social media is their third parent. Famous singers now a days are not afraid to drop in f-bomb in their songs because music has evolved to accommodate the utilization of cuss words. The N-word, which was use to dehumanize and break down a human race, has transformed to mean my pal or my family and only said among African Americans themselves. People utilize language in such a way that
With The Time Verses (Criss Cross, 2017), alto saxophonist David Binney brings in his characteristic soundscapes, which, besides completely identifiable within his own style and compositional structure, sound bold and fresh.
Being human means that there is a certain desire to explore. Whether it be in discovering who they are or just trying to learn, people tend to try to find deeper meanings. While all three pieces of writing are different, each one of them relates to wondering, wandering, and community due to the fact that they deal with finding themselves while life is going on around them. In “A Song in the Front Yard” by Gwendolyn Brooks, the narrator is curious about the difference in lifestyles between the ‘less fortunate’ and her own. “Guilt” by Judy Budnitz explores how difficult it can be to make decisions for oneself when everyone around them is pressuring them into something else. Through Richard Proenneke’s bio and journals, he explains the deep thinking he was able to do in the wilderness despite the simplicity in his everyday life.
Duality, a rather whimsical alternative rock album produced by the exuberant band Set It Off, truly encaptures the attention and ears of many because of its ability to make the thirty-seven minute experience feel like a mind-blowing journey through different genres of music such as pop punk, pop rock, and general rock. Released in October of 2014, Duality hastily found its way to Rock Sound's "Top 50 Albums of the Year" list, landing at number 5. In addition, this cross-genre compilation is Set It Off's best album to date because of its unique sound and fresh style along with the notion that it was completely unexpected. Beginning with "The Haunting," a song that contains a sound similar to the band's older material, the album carefully introduces an eerie feel with a mischievous twist that swiftly transitions into a playful tune with songs such as "Forever Stuck In Our Youth" and "Why Worry." Duality, an upbeat, wild album released by the playful band Set It Off to symbolize limitless and unavoidable life experiences such as a breakup, has
Friday night, lying in bed, eyes closed absorbing the legendary lyrics of The Kinks with the Pontefract cake-like disc rotating on the retro record player you bled your parents dry for. This is as close as the discerning music fan will get to real musical talent. Truth is, young people will never understand the sensation of music in the decades owned by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones or The Searchers, instead the quality of modern popular music now has collapsed into a never ending and monotonous spiral of auto tuned sounds and sub-standard ‘talents’ who pale in comparison to the musical artists of last century.
There are a ton of songs written out there about California, but for this article, I’ll be focusing on songs related to Los Angeles and Hollywood. Some of these tracks praise this city, while others portray the darker side of the City of Angels. So, while this was hard to narrow down as well, I give you the top ten songs about L.A. and Hollywood.
Rock ’n’ Roll music is a subgenre of the meta-genre, Rock. Freed (2009, 169) described it by saying, “rock ’n’ roll is really swing with a modern name.” Ennis (1992, 253) identifies, ‘First, early rocknroll allowed every performer to draw on the full musical resources of pop, country, and rhythm and blues.’ and on rockhall.com (2014) his viewpoint is expanded upon, The more immediate roots of rock and roll lay in the so-called "race" music, or rhythm & blues, and "hillbilly" music, or county & western of the Forties and Fifties.
Music has come a long way and everybody dances, listens, and sings to what we call music. In the past few years mainstream music has been overtaken by hip-hop and rap music. Although they have been criticized a lot for its sexual lyrics and violent themes. People feel that that hip-hop music has a focus on sexually-based themes and others feel that rap promotes violence against police officers and innocent citizens. Artists are still making music that promotes neither of these ideas, but more neutral and family and friendly themes. The last few years’ music has shown great styles, themes, and personal taste.
First off, I will say that the two painting would not be categorized as hip-hop because when I look at both of the picture I'm not persuade that the picture have anything to do with hip hop at all. I can say when I see the image of the radio I have a sense that the artist was making that painting in reference to music. The painting of the man the horse would give you some what idea of someone who maybe listen to hip-hop or rap music but you could be wrong so the image gives off less of reason to say it's a picture about hip-hop. Also you could tell the artist who drew the painting of the male on the horse focus on those of the black community because of the way the black male is dressed in the image. That painting also gives you more of a
