Student Success Is A Difficult Time Completing College

After graduating high school everyone has a plan or idea over what they are going to do. Some people go straight into college, work, and some even take a year off just to enjoy themselves. Some people have it all figured out, while others do not. Those who really want to be successful in college will make a plan over what they need to do to have a successful college career. I believe that everyone should learn some good college tips to help them be successful in college. All it takes is hard work and dedication.

As a student in college I am here to find my future career and build who I am as a person. I have a lot of goals in life and I expect a lot out of myself. I started reading the New York Times article, how to Live Wisely. It surprisingly related a lot to my own life. This article made me consider if I am actually doing what I love. As I answered what my goals are, I kept in the back of my head what I want my future to in store.

“In fall 2016, some 20.5 million students are expected to attend American colleges and universities, constituting an increase of about 5.2 million since fall 2000” (National Center for Education Statistics). That number seems to be rising each and ever year, and it almost seems as students feel like they have to go to college directly after high school. Maybe it is because they feel that they have to fit in, even if college is not for them. Although some students attend college for academics, sports, and other reasons, some students attend college for no apparent reason; with that in mind, students should take into consideration the time and money that is put into going to college.

There has been a moment in everyone’s life where they have dug too deep to jump back out and abandon the end goal. Students across the country that begin their junior year of high school are thinking about which choice of colleges they have in mind. One of the major problems that keeps a student back like solid steel chain is the tuition it cost for University admission. Students working their hardest throughout their high school career and having the ever conscious situation of financial problems stress them out. Students become discouraged when one of the main reasons for being unable to attend their dream college, is their inability to afford the yearly tuition cost of attendance. There is one simple answer to what being successful in school truly means to me. To be successful, I would have to gain as much knowledge and skills that I can to be able to utilize it in my future endeavors. I want to be able to show my brains in a non-letter form. If I was to barely pass all of my classes but have obtained all of the intellect necessary, I would feel extremely proud of the four years spent in secondary education. No employer looks at the exact letter grades you held. They look for skill, determination, and brilliance. This semester has flew by a lot faster than I anticipated. The akron experience has taught me quite a bit that has helped me in many different areas. Being successful in college to me means to organize and manage all the parts of your life so that you are content. College is alot to keep track of and managing this and the rest of your life is the main thing that will keep you going so you are able to take breaks. Without breaks you will get burned out and I learned this pretty fast. I would say I was successful this semester even if my grades weren't exactly where I wanted them I am getting the feel for the whole experience.

Being successful in college is not as difficult as some people think it is. With the proper preparation and observation, the student can be well-organized weeks ahead of when their classes will be scheduled to start. Not everyone is considered a highly organized individual and sometimes unexpected things happen to us all. It is important to keep a positive attitude, research, and speak with your instructors and various other staff members when needed in order to solve a dilemma. It all boils down to what the problem you are facing is. For myself, my EOPS appointment had been four days before classes were supposed to start and after taking a one-hour bus ride to the college about thirty minutes before my appointment was scheduled my phone rang.

Success has multiple meanings for some students in college. If you ask them what success means to them, most of the time you will get the “money” answer. Personally, I think being successful in college is when you are able to apply what you learn in school into your daily life. You also cannot just be successful; you have to work hard to get to the point you defined as successful.

I know that college will be difficult for me because of time management, lack of support, and the challenging classes. I am a mother of seven children, and six grandchildren whom I have devoted my life to for many years. Now it is time for me to shine. Managing time is very hard for me because it takes up most of the day. I have to car pool my daughter to basketball games, and take my son back and forth to work. My husband also demands my attention and help, because he is older now and cannot do a lot of things on his own. He comes home from work at night and expects dinner to magically appear on the table and house work to automatically be done. Finally once everything is done, it is then eight already and I still have to get the things left that I need to do before school like finish homework, study for tests, and then have myself in bed before eleven. In order to become a successful college student I will have to overcome my challenges. I would like to finish college and major in nursing which is my number 1 goal in life.

Imagine working hard for a college education in order to have a financially secured future only to find yourself unhappy and unsuccessful. Some students are always eager to go to the last stage of their educational program and attain the highest degree. However, these are always dreams for the students like having less financial abilities as the higher education needs some money for managing the academic expenses. Some people would insist that college is the only way to success in life, but earning a higher education could be an issue that has several disadvantages. Why is it so hard for student to be successful in college? In the book “Back to School” by Mike Rose, Rose talks about some of the different obstacle student’s faces in college that prevents them from being successful. Financial support plays a big part in student success. Money plays a huge factor in student success. Student that fail generally are the ones who are unable to pay school tuition. If students cannot afford the necessary equipment they need to succeed then they will have a hard time going through college. School supplies such as books and computers are a necessary for student success. Students need books and computers to be able to study in order to be successful. Student would go to college for a semester and drop out because they do not have money to pay for school. It is also hard to find jobs to help pay their way through college. Government don’t subsidize enough grand for student to go to college, instead they make it more difficult with loan subsidies. Possible solutions for student success are government subsidies, book vouchers and private endowment.

Some people may think that college success is based on high school accomplishments. Others may think that college success is determined on how dedicated one is. The day has come to move out of the house; the excitement of one 's 18th birthday has faded into time that seems as if it were centuries ago. This leaves many students asking where do they go now? Many young adults choose the college path, the path in pursuit of a higher education. As graduating high school students we are fast approaching a theoretical wall known as life, we are in need of a detour. In this day and age we see more high school graduates planning to pursue a higher education. Socially, going to college is the expected next step, but there are a myriad of reasons beyond peer pressure that cause graduates to strive for a higher education and the respect that is associated with it. Beyond being a couple buffer years between high school and “the real world”, a college degree can lead to job security, increased wages, and a healthier life.

What do think when you hear student success? Many people think different things. For example, student success could be a student having a good job in something they specialized on, and are living on their own without anybody's help. There are several different ways student succeed and ways to change schools in order for their students to succeed as well in this article. For instance, Anaheim High Schools can improve student success if we have longer school days, make the student be interested in school and on what they are learning, and having more after school programs that interest kids and will keep their minds off of bad things.
