In my success profile, there are some things that are still the same and different in this essay I will be talking about the different things that I have improved on and the stuff I still have to improve on .
The things that I improved on the most was my decision making and my empathy. I am going to tell you how much I improved and what I think that helped me improve on these things
My decision making went from a 6 to a 11. What I think improved my decision making was that I had to make a lot of decisions and from those decisions I found out what was the right decision and what was I shouldn’t have made.
My empathy went
What Drives Success a New York Times article written by two professors and authors Amy Chua and Jed Rubenfield, that claim that success in cultural groups is not just " random " or cultural tradition but it is because of three-character qualities- a quality of being better than everything else, complexity, source of mental worry, and the ability to control sudden desires. Now these qualities are seen in everyday communities and the author highlights that and refers back to how different groups of people related by culture, race, religion, etc. have accessed this formula throughout history. They then refer to major empires and the rising and falling of them in human history. They argue that why the empires commonly fall is because of one or more of the three reasons that drove them to success. The authors of this article use Ethos, Logos, and Pathos to strength and build their claim throughout the article.
Success is a word that really hard to define, because everyone will have a different definition for this word. In fact, there no exact definition for the word "success". For a student, maybe the success means to pass all courses of the semester; for a business man, signing a importance contract and get a lot of money are successes; and for a president, leading the country to develop and make the people have a better life are success. For me, I also have my own definition for the word "success". When I was a kid, I really want to be a scientist, but after I become mature, my thinking has become more mature and my definition of success also
Two things I can strive to be better at are my time management and my decision making abilities. To succeed in JROTC during the second quarter I must attempt to expand what I am good at and become better with what I am bad at. Empathy is one of my “strong suites” because I can put myself into others positions and feel what they feel, although I may at times be hypocritical. This will help me in the future of being in JROTC by letting
Some people may call Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder a curse; I would actually consider it a gift. Having the disorder has its challenges, and blessings. However, I find that when managed, ADHD can be a genuine asset in my life. The website “Study Guides and Strategies” provided many useful tips that I hope to use as a tool while learning, or apply in any classroom setting. Using these tricks and tips, the issues that I face while learning will hopefully become managed, and eventually become an asset to this journey we call learning.
One other thing I improved on this summer was my social and interpersonal communications. Before my internship I was nervous contacting and conversing with businesses and employers. While I still have a small amount of anxiety will dealing with clients and employers I know how to better react in those situations and how to work
In my success profiler my two strongest areas are time management and physical wellness. I can also prove that by the fact that I turn in most of my homework’s on time and if I don’t they are probably because not understanding them and asking my teacher to turn them in late. Also I can prove that my physical wellness is one of my strongest ones by outlining my schedule of every day. Even though those are my two strongest points I have others that are strong too, such as stress management. In my success profiler my strongest area is time management. Before they giving me the scores I knew that was going to be my strongest area. I know that because every day I take a time to do the things that I have to get done. In my physical wellness
Robert C. Meredith website “True Success: What is it” as the name suggests is a website that takes a deeper look into defining success. Similar to theme of Outliers the author not only question success but investigates it. Meredith feels that it is achieved though goals help from family, one’s career and even one’s health. I think this would be appealing to students but also an effective tool to help adolescents understand that there is no distinct way to achieve success. Similar to Gladwell he also compares others lifestyle to help prove the point that success can be achieved in various ways. From visiting the website I would want adolescents to have a deeper understanding of what is success to them means and understand everyone definition
Possibly my favorite part of the research process was the interview portion. I interviewed Mr. Aaron Fischer, superintendent of the Esko Public School district. I decided to interview him because, as a superintendent, he seems to be a pretty successful person. I thought he would have some interesting insight on success. A few questions into the interview he said something that interested me. When I asked if the word changed meaning for him now that he is older his reply was that when he was younger, he was focused on his own personal success (as most young people are). Whereas now, he is focused on the success of the students at Esko, the success of his kids, and the success of his family as a whole. Does this mean that success not only differs from person to person, but within different age groups?
I was surprised at first after reading the results of the My Success Plan activity. I thought my writing score would be higher than it was and my math score would be lower. But after reviewing it closely I realized that after not being in school or in a setting where I need to use correct grammar that it is definitely something I need to work on. I find it interesting that my primary learning styles were equally Aural, Social, and Solitary. I had never heard of Aural learning style before this test but after reading the description I have to agree that it is fitting. Also I was shocked that my reading recall was 90%, I had thought it would be lower.
"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.”
When I first started out this school year I was a totally different person than I am right now. The success profiler showed me the kind of person that I was, and also the strengths and weaknesses that I had as a person.
Areas that I would like to improve on would be to be more sociable, presentations, and being more proactive. Being more sociable means to me is to try to get to know someone better, like if they’re new, and to not judge, ignore, or not speak to them. I need to be more open to new things and people. Presentations scare me, ever since 6th grade. I never liked them.
No one has the right answer to the question of what an internal success is. Perhaps the most important realization that an individual can make in their quest for personal growth is that there is no single path that defines to internal success. To be successful is to understand what is important to you and to recognize your weaknesses without hiding behind them. We all have different goals, which mean that different activities and attitudes will make us feel good about ourselves. To achieve internal success a person has to enjoy the present moment, not compare yourself with others and surround yourself with positive people.
One area where I believe I have room for improvement is having difficult conversations. This is an area that may arise in multiple aspects of life, although I have found I encounter it most at work. Throughout my working experience, I have had to have quite a few very difficult conversations and I always find them hard. I would much rather give good news, and be positive and encouraging, than have to relay upsetting news. However, there are situations where you just have to give bad news. This is an area I have worked to improve throughout my professional career, but I still experience a feeling of dread when I know I am going into a difficult conversation.
Now that I have completed the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth course Crafting the Essay, I feel I have tremendously grown as a writer. Even after submitting the first assignment, I looked back at a position paper I wrote for school that I received an A+ on, yet I saw several flaws I wished I had changed.
