This day was just another ordinary day in Vietnam. The UH-1 Helicopter crew consisted of the Pilot CW2 Baez, Co-Pilot WO1 Rawlinson, Crew Chief Martinez, and Door Gunner Kephart. They assigned them an “Ash and Trash” mission to resupply a unit 8 miles outside the village of Pleiku. The Ash and Trash missions, designed to resupply units with food, water, ammo, mail, clean clothing, and replacement troops along with taking trash and Soldiers going on R&R and sick call. When this crew woke up on April 1, 1967, they had no idea it would be an unforgettable day for all involved. The unit being re-supplied had moved into the town and set up a landing zone. The landing zone was in the middle of very tall trees that required a steep approach and confined take off area. This required a high angle with max power to take-off; once they cleared the trees, they could nose over to build airspeed. The crew landed and left three different times with great success and returned to the firebase awaiting further instructions. …show more content…
The 1LT was the Payroll Officer and the SSG was the Payroll Guard, they wanted to pay the Soldiers since it was the first of the month. They flew them into the same landing zone they had used earlier in the day. While waiting for the Payroll Officer they were preparing for the steep
He feels Yanagi’s pain through the connection but he does not draw attention to it. To be in the heat of a powerplay game such as the one boiling over in Konoha right now is a moment of extreme delicacy and ruthlessness; attachments are withheld, persons numbed down. The rampant mentality is this: eliminate those who are likely to get in one’s way, even if they are friends, or valuable allies. Nobody who lived through the Warring States Era would be unfamiliar with this tenet: do what must be done. And if Tobirama was forced to choose among the Yamanaka twins, he would keep Yanagi alive, simply because she is now the more valuable of the two, even though Yanagi herself and most definitely, not Osamu, would admit it. For to dabble in politics is to know who has value, worth and utility, and who do not.
The authors of these texts want to show that the fall of Saigon was traumatic to the people of South Vietnam. One reason to support this idea is that in the poem Saigon is Gone, Ha and her family are on a ship heading towards safety when a helicopter begins circling the ship when Mother is seasick, “People run and scream, Communists! This is not helping Mother” (Lai 67-68). This is showing that the refugees are frightened of the helicopter, believing it to be North Vietnamese. The loss of their country and home has been a traumatic experience. Later the commander of the ship says, “Do not be frightened! It’s a pilot for our side who has jumped into the water, letting his helicopter plunge in behind him” (Lai 68). Furthermore, in the transcript

The Vietnam War started in 1945, resulting in almost 60,000 American deaths and nearly two million Vietnamese deaths, according to Mintze. Years after combat countless Vietnam veterans suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder in every aspect of their lives (Price). Posttraumatic stress disorder is an illness that can happen to anyone who has gone through a horrifying experience. It has been documented in all forms of literature and films the brutality of the war and the side effects it came with. The history of Vietnam is quite long and winding and leaves one to question its purpose (Mintze).

On November 14, 1965 the first battle of the Vietnam War had begun. This is a war between communism and democracy. The first major part of the war between the United States and Northern Vietnam was the Battle of Ia Drang. The battle erupted in the Ia Drang Valley of the Central Highlands. Lt. Col. Harold Gregory Moore took his 1st Battalion and 7th Calvary sent an assault near the Chu Pong hills. The North Vietnamese's 33rd regiment attacked our troops later that day. The fighting lasted all day and continued into the night however both sides were receiving support throughout the night and next day. Around noon on the 15th more companies arrived and helped Col. Moore giving us the upper hand. Once the three day battle ended, 834 were confirmed
I was ready to provide fire support in a manner of eleven minutes from the time of boots on the ground to gun up. I setup my platoon for success further in the day, to deliver deadly and accurate fire that pushed the enemy out of the Area of Operations. That in turn helped accomplish the unit’s overall objective, which made the mission a success.
The Vietnam War was a war that seems to have thought the American Military and Government officials a lot about diplomatic negotiations, presidential leadership, and cultural/social contexts. Each American involved most likely has a different story to tell about the War from the ground soldiers all the way up to the President. Each American most likely has varied options about the lessons learned from the Vietnam War. I will discuss what I feel we Americans have learned. Including the good, the bad, and they ugly related to diplomatic
Leading up to the attack, on June 6 1944, the U.S. Eighth Air Force and British Bomber Command repeatedly plastered the coastline with heavy aerially bombardment with the main focus being Point du Hoc. Pointe du Hoc was a 100ft cliff overlooking the English Channel. It lied 4 miles west of the center to Omaha Beach. It was also the highest point between Omaha beach on the east and Utah beach on the west. On the morning of 6 June, at 0445, 225 Soldiers comprised of Delta, Echo, and Foxtrot Companies, 2nd Ranger Battalion boarded their Landing Craft Assault (LCA) boats and headed out. The boats were crewed by British forces and they carried 22 men on each one. Upon headed out into the choppy sea for an hour-long trip to their destination. Riding in the landing craft was rough and cold, and several Rangers became seasick. Others worked vigorously to empty water out of the boats in an effort to keep them from sinking. One LCA capsized, leaving the assault team with twenty-two less men for the mission. As the early morning sun began to rise, the Rangers quickly realized something wasn’t correct. They were supposed to start the H-hour at 0630. The
The Boat is a book released in 2008 by Nam Le. Nam was born in Vietnam but raised in Australia. The Boat has been critically acclaimed by many and depicts 7 different tales of homeland and themes of family. Hiroshima is a powerful insight into the life of a young girl, told from her point of view. Nam uses this particular story to evoke a strong sense of regret and sadness for the bombings, and to explicate and observe the “human experience”.
The Vietnam War started on November 1, 1955. 9,087,000 military personnel served on active duty during the Vietnam Era. Those that went into the war zone suffered, not only from wounds but also from a variety of jungle diseases and malnutrition. One of the few sources of clean water came from water purification tanks at Vietnamese refugee camps.Preventive medicine teams worked to control rodent and insect infestations, spray for malarial mosquitoes, and purify unclean water.

In Good Morning Vietnam, the movie shows the story Adrian Cronauer and his experience as a radio DJ in 1965 Vietnam. In the movie, Adrian is a witty and impulsive comic that likes to do his own thing which does not go over well with the General Major who is in charge. However, Adrian’s comedy and wit help to make his radio shows entertaining for the troops and he becomes respected among many of the men in the army. Although Adrian is censored, he still tried to inform the troops and went against the normal protocol. Good Morning Vietnam gives a unique look into the war and shows the frustration of both sides. The only villains that seem to arise are the ones who hold Adrian back or the ones who are confused and angry at the misfortunate that had fallen upon their home in Vietnam. Overall, this movie showed the good and bad sides of the war while also giving an inside look into the experience of one man. The movie helped to showcase the main themes of conflict in war, censorship of the news and events, and confusion among civilians and soldiers.
“Dad told me not to judge combat veterans. Until I experienced combat, I couldn’t understand the emotions that come from battle.”
