I would like to join NYC Ladders for Leaders because it is a wonderful opportunity to gain valuable experience in the professional world. The pre-employment training which helps with resumes, cover letters and interviewing would be extremely helpful when I apply for positions in the future. Needless to say the summer internship will give me a lot of exposure to professional networks, working environments and insights into the industries. If I were to be selected for the program, I hope that in the end I would be able to better pinpoint my interests to help me decide on a career choice. Also I am hoping that the program will help me learn to better express myself in a working environment and build leadership characteristics that are essential

I, Jonathan Hollander would like to join the Ladders for Leaders program so I can get experience for my future career. I hopefully can learn new techniques to old tricks, how to handle certain situations and more. I hope to get a summer job/internship out of Ladders for Leaders for two reasons the first being: I’m on a set schedule in the summer, I’m not wasting my time over-sleeping and doing nothing. The second being: a future career or experience for my job. I think I can contribute to ladders for leaders by being a role model for future applicants proving to them you can do something with your summer vacation and more importantly life. I once heard a quote that had a major affect on me “one life can make a difference in the lives of many”.
Burns wrote the book to address the essence of leadership. His intended audience is the everyday
I display the core value of leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship by being the captain of the cross country team, and the president of the National English Honor Society (NEHS). It is my duty to demonstrate qualities such as organization and competence since I’m the face of both of these associations. Being the captain of the cross country team has made me into a role model. The cross country team is very diverse with African-American, Whites, and Hispanics runners. Furthermore, my role as captain has allowed me to grow closer with my teammates and learn more about their heritage. Being able to train and compete with people from different backgrounds has helped me interact with different people and better understand the world. Through this
In the schools and also the community we need more leaders. Being a freshman of Lower Richland High school, I want to see students demonstrating more leadership. Often, I see student afraid to say no to peer pressure from other students. I want to see students leading by example. We need more leaders in this community, and less followers. In this essay I will discuss characteristic that describe a good leader, and what I want to see change in my community. .
Adults and peers have described me as dependable, fair, honest, trustworthy, intelligent, empathetic, respectful, and friendly and I do my best to live by these characteristics. One of my main mottos is to treat others the way you want to be treated. I am by no means a perfect person and I try to accept help and criticism whenever it is offered in an effort to keep improving upon my character. I am a reliable student, sister, daughter, and friend. I believe I would learn a lot from being a member of this program because being surrounded by peers with similar moral and academic character would allow me to do even more to make my community a better place. This would be a perfect opportunity to benefit from any experiences this program has to offer me and make a positive impact on my school and
First published in 1987, The Leadership Challenge is a guide for becoming leader. The book received many awards and its above two million copies are internationally sold. The book teaches principles of leadership that apply whether the leader is running a sports team or a fortune 500 organization. The book includes stories and examples of many leaders from micro to macro level (Founders and Authors, 2013). The basic leadership principles can be adopted by anyone to challenge status quo and increase leader productivity multifold. The book tells about the flow and hierarchy of values too (Machedo, 2013). One can use the guide without an instructor to develop leadership traits.
I exemplify the National Honor Society’s core value of leadership because of my responsibility and my hard work. When working in a group, I am the person who takes charge and gets all of the group members on the right track. I divide up the parts as evenly as possibly and do my best to ensure that each person contributes. If a person is working slower than others, I help them complete their work as soon as I finish my own. Because a leader must be responsible, I prove my responsibility through the fact that I have never turned an assignment in late. If I am given a task to do, I always do it to the best of my ability no matter what it takes. I also demonstrate leadership outside of school when I am at swim practice. I serve as the role model in my group by always being there and
I have had many experiences that demonstrate my life-long commitment to the promotion of progressive ideals. Some of these experiences go back as early as high school, I was a member Key Club and President of Natural Helpers (two volunteer groups), the International Club and helped my Muslim peers with the formation and establishment of M.E.C.C.A, to promote a positive image of Islam and educate Non-Muslims about the faith. In college I worked for NYPIRG, canvassing for environmental causes, did an internship and later worked for, Action for A Better Community a community action agency. After graduation, I volunteered at Citizen Action where I worked on the beginning stages of Healthcare Reform and the ACA. I want to be a New Leaders Council’s
Leadership Implementation Quotient is a test performed to evaluate areas of strengths on a leadership position and to evaluate areas that should be improved. When I say leadership position does not mean a title. The book You Don’t Need to Have a Title to Be a Leader by Mark Sanborn has a very interesting and appropriated definition of the word leader. “Leaders are people that inspire and influence others, coordinate efforts and work with others to achieve goals, affect the quality of others experiences, and shape their life and careers” (Mark Sanborn, p.67, 2006). Leadership Implementation Quotient Quiz, helps a leader to self evaluate and have a better perspective about what can be modified and enhanced in their leadership, in order to improved
There are many ways to define leadership, but perhaps the most laconic as well as accurate definition is presented in Peter G. Northouse's Leadership: Theory and Practice book (Northouse, 2013, p.5): "Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal". Individuals, engaged in leadership, use influence to solve challenges, which the groups under their leadership face, in order to succeed in their common goals.
Tarleton, like other university’s in Texas, have what is called an Residential Leader, or RL for short, to help ensure that all the students who live on campus can have the best college experience Tarleton can offer. Although the names of the people may vary from university to university, they all still follow similar guidelines on how to help their residents. Being an RL has an enormous responsibility because they are who the students of the dorms look up to them as they set an example for determination, accountability, and relatability. RLs are asked many questions daily because they either know the answer or have the resources to help you find the answer. Some of the important questions RLs and future RLs should know include why they wanted to be an RL, why they should be an RL, and why should Tarleton even have RL’s.
What role does the concept of feminism in the workplace? Sheryl Sandberg presents her ideas in “The Leadership Ambition Gap: What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid,” and Bell Hooks responds to them in “Dig Deep: Beyond Lean In.” Sandberg specifically targets women in the upper echelons of corporate business, urging them to advocate for themselves and be confident. Hooks criticizes Sandberg, saying that instead of coping in a patriarchal system, women in the workplace need to do their part in changing the way of thinking that demands they lean in. Women are participating in the workplace every day, every hour, every second; identifying the system that operates on them and understanding that the same system affects every other gender are the
