What aspects of the manual do you find challenging? Note how you have addressed or will address each challenge.
1. No speaking in tongues – after coming from a Pentecostal background, I believe speaking in tongues is acceptable. I addressed by accepting those few who believe in speaking tongues, especially in Latin-American countries.
2. Women's Roles (No Women Ordination) – I believe woman can hold positions of leadership over man. I addressed by accepting those who believe women can be ordained, especially in Latin-American countries. Honor
In the first chapter of One Sacred Effort the author sets out on a voyage to sketch a brief overview of what fuels the Baptists denomination. Generally, the first conviction to be addressed is the doctrine and authority of Scripture. Following the example of Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16 “historical Baptists have held that the Bible is God-breathed Scripture…and that it is a sufficient rule of faith and practice.” (1.1) As a result of viewing scripture in this light, other theological convictions and distinctions flow out of this. Such as, salvation through faith alone, soul accountability, the priesthood of all believers, autonomy of the local church, and the importance of proclaiming and advancing the gospel. Again, this is not an exhaustive list
Organized religion across the country collectively speaks; we reserve the right to refuse to participate in any wedding or union of same-sex couples. All religious citizens across the country follow the teachings of their respective churches and synagogues and refuse to take part in those unions as well. The Christian cake maker, the Baptist Caterer, the Church-going Photographer and the Jewish Organizer all claim the right not to participate in events that are clearly same-sex.
Speaking in tongues is an interfaith phenomenon that has roots in the bible, but also has branches in the environment I was raised in. Growing up in a Church of God in Christ church, which is the third largest pentecostal denomination in the world, every Sunday morning and Friday night I would witness people ecstatically break out into tongues after catching the holy spirit. This piqued my interest in its origin and meaning to the pentecostal church. Glossolalia, also known as speaking in tongues, is a vital aspect of the pentecostal COGIC church. Looking into glossolalic origins such as where it came from and its purpose can provide insight into the practices of the pentecostal COGIC church.
Baptist believed that church authority rests with the congregation. For this reason Baptist church government is designated “congregational”, in contrast to other denominations which are “Presbyterian’ or “Episcopal.
Cindy Lamar is a volunteer Chaplin at South Pointe Hospital under the Pastoral Care Ministry Department. In the interview, she shared with me how their church evangelism ministry witnesses in the community. She said tht after she introduces herself and shows herself friendly, she watches the person and listens to the person attentively before asking them if she could pray for them. If they say yes, all is well and if no, she blesses them and keeps it moving.

Christ has appointed his disciples and soldiers, and we are gathered here on this shore not to marvel or amaze, but to do the Lord’s work and play our role.
In a culture that encourages self-governing and individualist approaches to church management, a Baptist perspective on polity appears not only timely but vital. Mark Dever, Jonathan Leeman et al. provide in Baptist Foundations a distinctly Baptist view for the effective functionality of today’s church. Topics explored in the work cover issues of congregationalism, baptism, the Lord’s Supper, church membership, church discipline, and elders and deacons. The authors provide historical background, Biblical context and practical application for these issues which are pertinent to the continued sustainability of the church in the form that has stood for centuries and to which we are familiar.
In today’s society the controversial subject of what positions in the church a woman can hold; has become incredibly debatable among the nation. Some people believe that women have equal rights with men and can uphold any position that a man can. Today’s society also believes that because a woman can be in political and business power, then a woman can also be in authority in the church. However, that could not be farther from the truth a women’s positions in the church are defined by God.
“Even today, though much improved from the time of these women, non-ordained women need to have more significant roles in the church,” host Janet Ruffing answered a student’s inquiry yesterday on women’s present role in the church.
How can the church more effectively express Kingdom values through its ministry and service to the local community? 1.
The subject of Women's ordination is a real “hot” button issue in the Catholic Church. Should or should we not allow women to be ordained. This continues to be one of the most debated topics in the catholic society today. There are many, in fact, tons of resources, facts, opinions, and articles on whether women should be ordained or not. But, the fact of the matter is you can do all the research you want and come to your own opinion. Someone will be there to challenge it and give his or her views. Who's right or wrong does not matter. I used to teach a fifth grade religious education class and every year we would show a video on vocations and every year a girl would ask, “Why aren’t there any women in this video?” To be honest, it is a very
The purpose of this brief is to provide you with an overview of how the Catholic Church view women being ordained in the church. The views are based on the traditional and doctrinal references that the Catholic religion is based on. The views are from various resources such as the Roman Catholic Church in the Vatican, Pope John Paul II, and the newly elected Pope Benedict XVI. The views described in this brief are based on the traditions of old and their refusal to change the traditions to fit for the twentieth century.
