The article “ Into the Dark Water” helped me understand what was happening by all of the quotes Lauren Tarshis put in the story. It also helped me feel how Jack Thayer a 17 - year old boy who was thankful to be on the Titanic felt about his whole journey through his quotes in the story that made me read till the end. In the beginning of the story, Jack Thayer was having a calm night and she gladly said “Everywhere Jack looked, he saw signs of a changing world. New electric lights made the world brighter. Motorcars and steam engines made the world faster. Breakthrough in science made the world safer. The Titanic was a symbol of all these changes.” That made me feel how Jack felt about the Titanic. It made him feel that Jack felt safe on

The search for one's place to belong is a universal quest. Many people find where they themselves within the communities of religion, culture, and language. Others, do not easily fit into any community, and as a result, are forced to wander and be different, they don’t fit in with the rest of the people like just another puzzle piece in society. This situation applies to both James McBride and Ruth McBride Jordan in the novel The Color of Water by James McBride. In the first couple chapters, James talks about her mother’s oddities (good and bad); one of which caught my attention, her unusual habit of ridding her bicycle everywhere. I believe that the author uses this to explain her unique personality, a fun care free person that is different

Transition: Now that I have discussed the titanic itself, let’s take a look at the tragedy that struck it on its’ maiden voyage.
The article “Into The Dark Water”, by Lauren Tarshis, is an article about the perspective of Jack Thayer on the titanic. In this article The author included a lot of quotes in the article. I think the author Lauren Tarshis included all these quotes to give you an example on how it would feel on the titanic. For an example “It was the kind of night.” Showed that even though the titanic sunk it was still a beautiful life.
The quote “It was the kind of night, that made one be glad to be alive” that quote that Jack said tells you that it was a beautiful night sky. But he is also a first class passenger so he would get a good view of the night. And I don’t blame him for when he said it made one glad to be alive because he also was a rich high class passenger that was going to America
It is important to find out who you are. In order to find out who you are, you must start you’re roots and if you have no roots or are unable to reach them, finding where you came from to help find yourself becomes really difficult. Also it’s hard to find yourself when you have others telling you who you are and who you are supposed to be. These two put together makes it extremely hard to find yourself. In James McBride’s memoir The Color of Water, James McBride has conflicting feelings of being biracial illustrates how important it is to know where you came from and who you are in order to move forward in your life.
The Color of Water by James McBride is a book that caused me to recall my life with my mother, the woman who was always there for me, my best friend and a person who I believed only cared if it was regarding my education or Buddhism. Throughout my entire life, my mom only had one idea that she drilled into my head: “Nếu bạn muốn chiến đấu với tôi, sau đó đi trước và chiến đấu với tôi. Bởi vì tất cả tôi muốn làm là giúp quý vị, con. Bạn sẽ là cái chết của tôi,” which translates to “If you want to fight with me, then go ahead and fight with me. Because all I want to do is help you, child. You will be the death of me.” In many ways, I noticed that McBride’s descriptions of his mother are very much similar to my own. It was only when McBride was an adult that he saw that his mother cared for him every step of the way and whatever she did was for him and his siblings. This makes me realize that I have someone really special in my life and that I should give my mother a chance while I still can, because there might come a day when the

James stated that “ I could only imagine how painful that must have been…” (McBride 221). James felt his aunt sorrow and did not want to approach her because he didn’t want to bring more pain into her. While walking through the river, James thought of his grandmother past. James had no more tears and didn’t expect his mother's family to go through this much because his mother
In Chapter 15 (Graduation) of The Color of Water, Ruth reveals how her period of being young was cut short due to falling in prohibited love. Despite all the hostility Ruth is receiving from the outsiders she continues to complete high school. After returning to Suffolk to finish the rest of high school she visited Peter, Ruth’s first boyfriend. Since Peter and Ruth shared a genuinely close relationship she insisted on meeting him. Ruth explains that Peter conveyed he still had feelings for Ruth during their encounter. In Chapter 16 (Driving) Ruth has a difficult
In the film, Trouble in Water Kim and Scott recorded their experience in how they dealt with Katerina. They refused to leave their home in order to acquire environmental justice for the poor treatment black communities were receiving. With little equipment and an unstable home, they protected themselves from the storm. Just as the couple predicted, the government had no interest in rescuing their community, let them to fend for themselves. Her husband and other people in the community had to become leaders in order to rescue families that were trapped in their homes. In the article, “The Truths of Katrina” introduced Mayor Nargin who received the funds to help rescue communities, but decided to invest the money in creating DVDs and distributed
Great scene, it showed a central claim, pro and counter argument, rebuttal statement, and eventually one of the characters won the argument. It has been a while since I watched the Titanic, so a forgot that scene actually happened. Jack used a few great strategies to win that argument. When he first came on scene, he did not overreact to the situation. He kept his composure through out the debate. He then used his cigarette to get closer to Rose by showing her that he wants to throw it in the ocean. Even though Rose told him it is non of his business if she jumps, he made himself as part of the situation by telling her he has to jump after her. By doing that Jack is forcing her feel guilty and think about his life also. Then Jack
