When I saw this video I found out that I have the same problems that they had when they went to the college. It was difficult in the beginning, but I work out some of my problems like how they did it. some of the words in this video I didn’t understand it. Any how I like what they are seeing because it sounds that they are toking to me. In the short film "Reading Between the Lives" shows the participation in school or college students. The film may have been useful, but I simply felt depressed by the film. Also Based on the film, Chabot College students are victims. Chabot teachers are unskilled. A question they asked was " why are your grades bad?", and the students reply was either they did not understand the text or the teacher gave no structured form of the assignments given, so the students do not understand how the teacher wants the work done. a long time ago I had a teacher who confused me, for example she would give assignment and the next day she would have forgotten all about the assignment, but she did not teach us about the material needed for the homework assignment. I agree with Julian, Laricia, Shirley, Ivone, and Christian when they say that the textbook …show more content…
Just as students benefit when the instructor makes clear how the course material is relevant to their lives. Also, the film provides problematic messages for community college students. The books are expensive; other students are not reading. For the first time, it was really hard for me to do these things in my first day of college, but slowly I started to understand about the writing assignment that has been given. Learning a new knowledge from the book novel is kind of interesting and enjoy me the most since this is new to me for the first semester and as a first college student. I am reading materials that has been assigned to
The film Higher Learning is a call to action. It is a film that shows people as products of their environment. The film is set on a college campus, a place where most people learn about what they will do in their adult life to try to better the world or simply educate themselves in order to live a better life. However, life on the Columbus campus is not good; it is a battlefield between the races and sexes. I feel it is a bit exaggerated, but it allows people to see some of the issues that go on, on a college campus. The film focuses on three freshman (Malik, Kristen, & Remy) entering college. They enter a less than ideal new world that is filled with tension, anxiety and fear. Although the writer uses stereotypical characters, it
The approach to the reading of the novel would be varied. It is anticipated that the class study would begin with a shared reading of the opening chapter to foster students' interest. A prepared reading by the teacher is usually much more involving than a hesitant reading-around-the-class activity (Sykes, n.d.). The aim is to motivate each student to read the
In an urban school district the students suffer with short budges, poverty and most of the time lack of interest because of struggle. In the documentary Virtual Equality the reality of those students in the period of time showed where they were striving. Because they didn’t
Personally, the book taught me a lot about how people deal with situations when under pressure, people’s need for power and how easy it really if for a war to break out and I found that in my mind I could easily link what was going
From the film one can learn the importance of taking chances and making choices. The film also teaches us about disobedience. Are desobidance puts us at risk, but is important to do what we feel is right. The film also teaches the harsh reality's of war and how it can cause men to do terrible
One of the main reasons i think the book should be taught in schools is The book gives an accurate representation of how racism was during the time the book takes place. Which is the middle 1800s. Back in the 1800s Black people weren't treated as fairly ass white people this is displayed in the books in many ways. One being this quote, ‘It was 'lection day, and I was just about to go and vote myself if I warn't too drunk to get there; but when they told me
After seeing the film and reading the text I learned a lot of information on what a Jews life in hiding was like. Both impacted me deeply but seeing the film was more impactful for me. In the film you could see what their living situation was like so you could get a better understanding of what being in hiding was like, it might not have been a exact replica of what it really was like but you still got a good idea of it. Also you could see the characters feelings and emotions. This helped the viewers know what they were feeling in a certain moment in time. So while both were very interesting I was more in favor of the Film over the Text, it add more elements to the story for me.
“Eleven chapters have shown that textbooks supply irrelevant and even erroneous details, while omitting pivotal questions and facts in their treatments of issues...” (Loewen, pg. 301). Throughout this book, Loewen
Education gives common people the means to turning dreams into reality. Education allows common people to open up their minds to various possibilities, that will arise from becoming educated. But, yet there are times where our education systems do not uphold student/learners to a high norm. Although, problems with education systems rarely occur, inadequate performance in school can be feasible if there are issues within the child’s household. Nonetheless, students who face inconsistent dilemmas, fail since they attempt to solve both problems.

Through out the movie you see difficulties that the students are trying to finally fit to be part of the system but they still may not be accepted because of their classes. With low achieving school, have a suspicious amount of high test scores the reliability and dependability are questioned. Conflict theory is used that the struggle in society and schools between the haves and have nots. For example, not funding for computer, not having computers, no air conditioning for summer and less opportunities for students in general. The school is portrayed as a place where students do not want to be or care about being in school. The staff don’t care about the students especially they gave up on them. There is a quote that I got from the movie, that Mr. Escalante was asking the math department for calculus
I: All throughout grade school and even high school, my teachers, parents, and even friends told me not to take the easy way out when it comes to books. Always read the book before the movie. I usually took the easy way out, watched the movie, and then skim the book. After doing this project I see what everyone was talking about. The book is much better than the movie, it gives you more of a sense of what is going on, a greater sense of when the story takes place, and it gives the characters more definition.
Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s film The Lives of Other’s (2005) is set in East Berlin during the socialist reign from November 1984, up until the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989. The political context plays a significance role not only in the film’s subject matter but also in its cinematography, which exploits the voyeuristic tendencies of the audience, reflecting the surveillance of the Stasi Secret Police officers. The film follows a loyal socialist and playwright, Georg Dreyman who becomes subject (along with actor girlfriend Christa-Maria Sieland) to extensive Stasi surveillance due to his association with subversive artists such as Paul Hauser and Albert Jerska. Hauptman Gerd Weisler is the accomplished Stasi officer assigned to
Earlier this year, a video went viral, this video is called “Don’t Stay in School”. This video showed the reality of our education and how many young adults wrestle with their new found responsibility. The video featured a young man rapping lyrics such as: “I wasn't taught how to get a job but I can remember dissecting a frog…” and so on. Through the lyrics don’t apply to all schools, the singer actually makes a valid point on how most abstract education processes don’t have a toll on the average adult.
Through expert testimony we see how school can overwhelm students. One example is homework, which is the cause of stress to most students. In the film an AP Biology teacher explained how he gave his students less homework, and their grades increased. Students are given so much work that they are no longer retaining what they are learning, but are just cramming as much information
