The Chargers have won the Gus Bradley sweepstakes. The former Jaguars head coach was sought after by several teams after his firing, but has agreed to terms with the Chargers to be their defensive coordinator, a source informed told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. While this is a team moving to a new city that recently hired a new head coach, there are several intriguing defensive pieces for Bradley to work with. No. 3 overall pick Joey Bosa had an electric rookie campaign, finishing with 10.5 sacks in 12 games. The quarterback takedowns don't even do him justice, as he was constantly terrorizing opposing signal callers and helpless blockers. While Melvin Ingram is about to hit the open market (he's No. 7 on Gregg Rosenthal's list of the top-25 impending free agents), Los Angeles can still apply a franchise tag on the pass rusher who has 18.5 sacks over the past two seasons. The secondary has a trio of tantalizing corners in Casey Hayward, Jason Verrett and Brandon Flowers. …show more content…
7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, where NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah projected ball-hawk safety Malik Hooker would be taken in his first mock draft. Bradley's time in Jacksonville was unremarkable to say the least, as he compiled a 14-48 record before he was canned two games before the 2016 season ended. Before his head-coaching stint with the Jaguars, he was the architect behind the Legion of Boom. Bradley took over as Seahawks defensive coordinator in 2009, and Seattle's defense gave up 356.4 yards (24th in the NFL) and 24.4 points (25th) per game. During Bradley's final season in Seattle, the team improved to 306.2 yards (fourth) and 15.3 points (first) in 2012. If Bradley can create a similar beast in Los Angeles, the Chargers can certainly be a playoff contender next
Then of course, there is also the conundrum of holding a future franchise QB as a keeper. Six quarterbacks were selected in the first three round of this year’s NFL draft, but one in particular jumps off the board as ultra-intriguing.
3rd round (83rd overall) - Derek Rivers, DE, Youngstown State: Rivers is a 6'4" defensive end/linebacker hybrid who excelled in the FCS under head coach Bo Pelini. A late bloomer, Rivers made a huge jump his junior year, before dominating the FCS this past season as a senior opposite Avery Moss, a fifth round draft pick of the New York Giants.
As of right now, the Bucs have Z-E-R-O players with any ability to pass rush. Sure, Robert Ayers is good at what he does, but don't expect more than 6 sacks out of him. William Gholston is a great “run stopping” left DE but don't expect him to get to the opposing QB very often. Last year we drafted Noah Spence and he has shown flashes of his skills, but he has been injured most of the year.
“I got bored,” head coach Dana Holgorsen joked. “I looked over to the sidelines and I said, ‘He’s made a whole bunch of plays, he’s made a whole bunch of plays, he’s made a whole bunch of plays and he’s made a whole bunch of plays, they never played together, so I said to Jake (offensive coordinator Jake Spavital), ‘Get those guys out there.’”
The Carolina Panthers found themselves a star in Kelvin Benjamin drafting him 28th overall in 2014 draft. We took him 28th overall I think he has already become a steal for the Panthers and Dave Gettleman who is a great evaluator of talent. He took the NFL by storm becoming quarterback Cam Newton's favorite target right away and for good reason; setting Panther rookie records for receptions receiving yards and touchdowns with 79 catches 1008 yards and nine touchdowns.
3) OLB, DeMarcus Ware: The 6-foot-4, 258 pound sack-machine is still recording double digit sacks at age 32. Ware, a versatile-hybrid-type, who was projected to be a DE/OLB out of Troy University, has excelled his game as one of the best QB-Hunters on the perimeter. Selected 11th overall in the ’05 draft by the Cowboys, Ware was a perfect match for Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells’ 3-4 scheme as a standup bull-rusher.
Aaron Rodgers has done an impressive job filling Brett Favre’s gab on the Green Bay Packers as stated in the article Green Bay, Once Owned by Favre, Now Belongs to Rodgers. Favre, the previous quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, had led the team until he left for Minnesota two years ago, leaving many fans heartbroken. However, after this past season, Rodgers has proven himself. At first, with injuries to the offensive line, the team was damaged and had 41 sacks in the first nine games, averaging between four-to-five sacks per game. However, they shaped up, with the help of Rodgers, and were considered to be the “hottest team” for the second half of the season. Even with the rocky start, Rodgers still helped make a franchise record of 461
There are plenty of promising undrafted free agents, but the established veterans remaining on the free agent market would provide teams with a better upgrade and more significant impact if given the right opportunity.
Joe Thomas: The Cleveland Browns has a certain gift with Joe Thomas in eight seasons, he has been selected for the Pro Bowl eight times and has not missed a single snap. This equates to 7,917 snaps that have not been missed. The left tackle looks to improve on his stats this season and hopes to make it nine seasons and nine Pro Bowl selections. While the Browns team as a unit still need some work, Joe Thomas will be doing his part to help the team get a better record than last seasons. The opposition will be in for a tough season as Joe Thomas will be on the opposition looking to make a big impact with a
In seven games, Watson has thrown for 1,699 yards, 19 touchdowns, 8 interceptions with a passer rating of 103.0. Drafted by the Houston Texans, the team had high hopes for Watson coming into his rookie season. In all the games Watson has played this season, he has been impressive having an amazing start to his rookie season and most likely a favorite to win Rookie of the Year.
While, in typical Oakland Raiders fashion, they picked up the draft-bust with $600,000 in guaranteed money hoping to stabilize the running back position with uncertainty
Speaking of potential, that’s what I see in the group of receivers the Browns obtained. Currently, there are seven wide outs on the 53 man roster and any Clevelander knows what Andrew Hawkins, Taylor Gabriel, and Marlon Moore will bring to the table. Additionally, we’re aware of Travis Benjamin’s abilities, but after three years in the league, he is looking like a decent pass
Have you ever been known to be a “die-hard fan?” Have you ever loved a team so much, that you decorated your room with the team’s logo everywhere, or bought your favorite players jersey for that team? I have, and that team to me was the Los Angeles Lakers. I remember watching some of the most successful seasons the Lakers ever had, either when they were winning championships or breaking NBA records. Slowly I began to see good players leave Los Angeles and their record start to get worse and worse every year. Something needs to get done for the Lakers so they can become a successful team like they once were, and I know exactly how to do it.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have the potential to become a powerhouse in the AFC South within the next few years. The Jaguars are loaded with potential throughout their entire roster. They already have their franchise quarterback in Blake Bortles. Although Bortles struggled last year, he still possesses extraordinary qualities and intangibles that will continue to develop and help him blossom into a superstar. Bortles set the franchise record for passing touchdowns in Jaguars history in 2015 with 35 touchdowns. The potential in Bortles is obvious, and the Jaguars are in a great position with him under center for the future.
I really feal that this is the draft gang green will indeed land themselves a franchise, high caliber and spectacular type quarterback. They no longer will need to worry about the position for at least another ten years.
