Getting rid of summer break would hurt a lot of students; they do not have the patience to go to school during the school year—taking away what is supposed to be their vacation could possibly break them.

Students normally feel more refreshed after breaks and are willing to get back into learning and doing school work. Since there are many breaks in a year-round schedule, students learn more due to the fact that they receive many breaks to get refreshed. People may think the traditional schedule is better because you get a long summer break, but it is not necessarily better. Coming back to school in September after a long relaxing summer break, students tend to forget everything they learned the previous school year.

Under a year-round schedule, the students benefit by having smaller breaks, meaning they can quickly snap back to previously learned information. When information is stored, but not used for an extended period of time, anyone can lose that information. Due to the shorter breaks, students may find it difficult to find a summer job, or a job at all, but there are jobs that work with students or maybe just limit their time at the workplace.

First, students should not go to school all year round because their minds would not be as clear. Although there are still breaks, that's is not enough time between studies. With one long break, students have their thoughts on fun during the break and studies during the school year. Students will not be paying as much attention. If you just go off a small break or are even waiting for one, your mind is most likely thinking about what fun things to do on break instead of what the teacher

Most importantly, students' education and health would benefit. Year-round schooling would allow students to move at their own pace. Students would also be able to retain information more easily because they won't have to remember what they learned over the long summer breaks. Lastly, a students' brain won't have nearly as much strain because students would be learning in a more structured schedule.

Imagine a school year that gave the students one week off after every quarter and every Friday off. Does this sound exciting and rich with possibilities? Then ask the superintendent of the school district to consider year round school with only four days per week.First, students would not forget what they learned over the long summer. Next, parents would not have to get day care except on Fridays instead of the whole summer. Finally, teachers and students would have better relationships as they spend more time together instead of being rushed. Let’s take a look at some proof.

However it can be argued that the more frequent breaks throughout the year will leave students feeling refreshed and ready to continue learning when they get back. In the proposition detailed above, students will have a series of breaks throughout the school year, with the longest being three weeks over the winter holidays. This gives ample amounts of time for families to vacation and celebrate together and hopefully leave the students feeling refreshed and ready to learn when they get back. It was also indicated by administrators that “renewed motivation and continuous injection of new ideas maintained a higher level of enthusiasm than [students] had experienced in their previous traditional calendar schools” and that they fully believed this was a critical factor in improving student performance throughout the year (Shields). It should also be noted that the vast majority of jobs offered globally do not have a summer break, and by shortening summers from 13 weeks to 7, students will be more prepared to enter the work force once out of school, and should have an easier time transitioning into the year round life as opposed to students used to taking 10 to 13 weeks off at

There are numerous reasons for teachers to take a break from teaching in the summer months. “Summers off has long been the light at the end of the tunnel for teachers, particularly in urban areas with higher discipline problems and overcrowded classrooms” (Lynch). This was stated regarding the traditional school system. In a year-round setting however, the lengthy breaks are replaced with shorter and frequent breaks. Though the loss of those summer months may at first seem like a downside, many teachers end up liking more time off. Teachers simply need the summer time break to “recharge their batteries” from a busy, overwhelming, and time consuming year. An unmotivated, drained teacher has a direct negative effect on the young students in his or her classroom.

“More kids will have learning loss than others.” That is why we have school so we can learn the same stuff. We will get learning loss because we will learn to much stuff.When kids go to summer break they will have learning loss but they will learn that stuff again in the next year. With the schedule we have now, the students and teachers get to have longer breaks. Both teachers and their students make plans for school breaks, especially winter break and summer break. Teachers might need the break time in the spring and winter to finish grading papers or make lesson plans. Some teachers say that students should use their break time to study,

According to Matthew Lynch, students will remember what they learn instead of the majority of students forgetting everything during summer break. It takes from 8 to 13 weeks for teachers to get back up to speed. Either way, when it comes to learning and retention, students who attend year-round schools have nothing to lose and much to gain. It’s also an easy way to bridge the achievement gap. Minority students, students who speak English as a second language, economically disadvantaged students, and students with disabilities are the most affected by the summer fallback. Lynch explains, “Studies have found that disadvantaged students lose about 27 percent more of their learning gains in the summer months than their peers”

Students need time to relax and de-stress. With the accumulation of homework, projects, assignments, tests and quizzes, students are constantly working and have no time to relax. This can be overwhelming, but students still put in the effort just to make it through the year because they know they can rest in the summer. Furthermore, this could cause students to become unmotivated because they will think that they are trapped in a prison in which they are boundlessly doing work and will never meet their own goals. A longer vacation will allow us to clear our minds and open them to new possibilities that would not be possible if we were to follow the same routine every day. Likewise, it is not only the students that need this vacation, but it is also the staff and faculty as well who would definitely rather see their family and friends instead of the students for a whole year. The average school period is one hundred and eighty days with small breaks in between and a three-month break during summer to ease students’ minds and let them relax. The Board of Education should make all schools in the United States year-round to increase educational time and decrease the loss of knowledge over the breaks. It gives students the same time to relax and plan family vacations periodically throughout the year, but never creates the stress of changing sleep schedules that summer break changes. Not only is it a good way to enhance education, but it also is better for planning family events, positive effects on budget, academic achievement, and could decrease the absence rate of students.

Most importantly, improving the U.S. educational system by increasing the time attending school will not improve the countries education. Why? The summer breaks are designed to allow the students and educators to take a break before the next school year. First off, students and teachers would not be able to stand each other by the end of the year. If the county had all year round school, we would all start resenting each other because of all the time we would be forced to spend together. Also, I know a couple of teachers who gave up one job for being a teacher because of summer break. They have time to travel and do whatever they want in the summer instead of being stuck in a building with teenagers all day. Plus, teachers also deserve a break from grading papers and talking until their voice is gone to kids who are probably not even listening.
