The original Superman is by far the most ethical superhero depicted to date. He is, as they say, the “super” man. By choosing to only use his powers for the good of the people, he is a perfect example of moral goodness and ethics. Superman possesses the powers of flight, superhuman strength, x-ray vision, heat vision, and the mind of an absolute genius. In the original comics, Superman never lost a battle, and never killed any of his villains. While fighting may be seen as unethical, he is doing this for the purpose of serving society and helping people. Fighting is nature and although fighting itself is not ethical, the reasons for doing so can be. For as long as history has been recorded, humans have fought for just about anything, because this world has always been about survival of the fittest. Superman fighting his villains doesn’t make him unethical because he is not taking their lives. Superman believes it is not his choice as to who lives or dies which is why when he fought Lex Luthor, his mortal enemy, he refused to kill him. He had him arrested instead. In Superman’s eyes there will always be a better alternative than killing someone. It is not in his character to kill. With every power that he possesses, Superman could literally be the “end all be all” of this planet. Superman could have crushed Batman to pieces with only one punch. He could literally “take over the world” as villains like to say, but morally chooses to utilize his power for the greater good.
The first example of a figure that contradicts his morals and skews the integrity of the authority is the president (assumed to be Ronald Reagan). In the novel Reagan is fed up with Batman’s movement of illegal actions. He uses Superman as a political pawn
Superman is represented as a symbol of strength and courage, representing the heroic act of destroying barriers and overcoming adversity.
But whence digging past the loud colours and the "it's-a-bird-it's-a-plane," generic, one realises the true face of Superman. He isn't super for his inhuman abilities or his capricious appearance, he isn't a true man for his strong build and his appealing features: Superman is super because he's what everyone should aspire to be, and he is a man because he melds the world in a form of good and good only. For if Superman wanted to, he could rule the world and no one would be able to stop him. Superman is, literally, a god among men. He has the power to sink entire continents and kill millions of people with ease, but he chooses to protect everyone, good or bad, no matter how insignificant and tiny the life is for nothing in return. Superman is a hero because he's there for everyone, never compromising his ideals and taking the high road to support those in need. This is despite the fact that he could basically be a god lording over others without much trouble, but instead chooses to serve and inspire. That is why he is a hero. Superman is the ultimate hero, and not just because he is the most powerful being on earth but for his integrity which sets him completely apart. One could constantly remark on how Superman looks for the best in everyone, how he is ultimately loyal and selfless, not even considering the fact that he could rule the world but chooses to serve is the greatest compliment you can
The main factor that tells me that Superman is a better Superhero is that fact that he actually has powers whereas Batman has to rely on money. Superman has many powers such as: Extreme strength, invulnerability, heat and x-ray vision, super breath, and flight. Batman on the other hand, has no powers and without his billionaire status, would
Superman is a DC Universe comic book character. He is a superhero. He saves many people’s lives but the people don’t appreciate the big mess that he creates while he is saving the people. Superman may be a made up character but he a inspiration to many people in all different ages. Superman has been rejected and ridiculed but he doesn’t give up on the people.
The quote, “"Superman was more powerful than any politician and more effective than any social activist," said Laura Siegel Larson, daughter of Jerry Siegel” (Michael Sangiacomo 1), shows how Superman somewhat assumed the position as a politician or some kind of role model in America. This was because he was able to calm America down a little and allow them to rest after long, hard days or in the mornings to help them get up and their day. He could also speak openly and appeal to all Americans, which added to his popularity. People went to work all day to try to make money and during this time it was literally a matter of life or death, so seeing Superman overpower his barriers helped them relax and get through the day. Moreover; this simply goes to show that he was easy to relate to, which Americans seemed to adore about him.
Who doesn't want to be Superman? Little boys to grown men all would love to be Superman. Marcus, the main character in the story, is doing all in his human abilities to be a hero and fight the government. Marcus Yallow is a very courageous high school student who is a suspected terrorist. Marcus does all he can and puts himself in danger to protect his rights.
Beowulf was a brave and strong hero. He feared nothing. Superman is much like Beowulf in this sense. Beowulf did not have super powers but he had no fear of death. He didn’t go out to fight demons for gold. He fought for glory. Superman was similar. He fought to protect. He did not want anything in return. The thing that makes these two men heroes is that they would lay down their life at any moment to save another. The both faced their “demons”. Superman fought crime day to day as Beowulf went around the world to fight demons and prevent them from harming villages. Although both of these heroes were great, they both had their weaknesses. Beowulf could not resist the beauty of Grendel’s mother. She was too beautiful for him to resist.
The first hero, Superman, the greatest superhero of all time. His powers include flight, super strength, x-ray vision, invulnerability, speed, heat vision, freezing breath, super flare (a recently added massive, omnidirectional heat blast that obliterates anything within a quarter mile radius), and superhuman senses. Having all of these abilities is said to make him god like, but he has his one weakness, Kryptonite. Kryptonite
If you’ve ever seen the movie Man of Steel ,then you would know that at one point in the movie the government was trying to take him out because he was destroying the town while trying to save it. Although superman is subsequently good he was seen as a villain at one point. Eventually people started to warm up to him and started seeing him as a hero but others still saw him as a threat to them. Some heroes can be seen as villains until they prove themselves to be heroes. There's always two sides to a person some focus on the good other focus on the bad
The duty of superheroes to others in need of help is just a minor part of this movie. (Bannon, 2013) stated some character’s lifestyles cannot even socially connect to a normal civilization and helping humankind is not their priority. It is like when The Comedian tells Dr. Manhattan that he could have stopped him using his power when he killed the pregnant woman in Vietnam (Gordon & Snyder, 2009). It can also be debated that the moral code of some may be classified as moral nihilist due to their disregard of human life in the process of their vigilante conducts. The Comedian’s view that everything is a joke clearly explains this and his deeds.
Although superheroes are sometimes required to do things that goes against the standard norm, the actions that the superhero does is the necessary right thing to do. For example, superheroes sometimes would have to go out of their way to prevent a crime or help law enforcement catch a criminal as with Batman. Skoble’s argument about not asking about why superheroes do what they do, but why superheroes need to exist is very true, because if events and problems happen, someone will have to step up and most people would not choose to take action. This makes superheroes moral because they are there with the intention to make the world a better
Who is Superman? Many might recognize Superman as a hero of great prevail, with super powers that bend the laws of the universe. Truly, Superman is recognizably one of the strongest and well-known heroes in the DC Comics universe. Children view him as a role model, perhaps as a personal hero - one with astounding power and absolutely triumphant morals; one that always does good. If our perception of a “superhero” is a person that does good in any situation, then our definition of an actual Superman in our society can vary - depending on the judgment of a person. In Waiting for “Superman” - Davis Guggenheim’s thought-provoking documentary - the definition of Superman is compared to the saving grace for the public school system. The film
People look at Superman like a God, strong and mighty. A warrior against evil. Superman's appearance is distinctive and iconic; he usually wears a blue costume with a red-and-yellow emblem on the chest, consisting of the letter S in a shield shape, and a red cape. Clark creates the costumed identity of Superman so as to protect his personal privacy and the safety of his loved ones. As Clark Kent, he wears glasses to disguise his face and wears his Superman costume underneath his clothes so that he can change at a moment's notice. To complete this disguise, Clark avoids violent confrontation, preferring to slip away and change into Superman when danger arises, and suffers occasional ridicule for his apparent cowardice. Whenever I picture Superman
Superman has powers like flying, x-rays, and heat vision. With his power Superman faces responsibilities and difficulties in calm and adequate ways. The opposite of Batman is that he is more aggressive and very impulsive in the moment to attack. They are very easily distinguished either in a comic book or a movie for their customs in different colors. Batman outfit is gray with black and a mask which anyone could determine the evil and dark he represents by the outside. Superman is in a brightest outfit representing America and the kind a hero they will choose definitely to fight crime. Frank Miller only wanted to bring Batman a little bit different with other perceptions including his principal rival Superman to make the story interesting and give the opportunity for many readers to notice wrong actions from our comic heroes.
