On a cool October night in South Carolina, Susan Smith strapped her two sons to the back of her Mazda Protege and rolled it into the lake ending her children’s lives. On July 25, she signed a confession explaining exactly what happened. 20 years later, Susan Smith is claiming different reasons behind her motive that night. However, all evidence still points to her cynically murdering her children to be with a man she was having an affair with.
Sources reveal that “Smith's childhood was quite painful, following her parents' divorce, her father committed suicide. It was disclosed in her trial that Smith was molested in her teens by her stepfather, who admitted that he had molested her when she was a teenager and had consensual sex with her as

I was not in my right mind.” When the conclusion was drawn about the man she was having an affair with, Smith spoke out that “The thing that hurts me the most is that people think I hurt my children in order to be with a man.. that is so far from the truth.”
Throughout the years Susan has been imprisoned, however, she has shown no remorse to her case but instead has drawn attention to herself by doing appalling acts during her sentence.
Smith’s reputation while being imprisoned in the Leath Correctional Institution has been one that has continuously peaked the media’s attention. Sources find it hard to believe that she is

She talked about her case because she said: “I never want a child to suffer in the way I did. Nobody capable of such violence should be able to adopt a defenseless child.”
In her lifetime, she has been incarcerated 12 times, serving a total of five years, receiving her first prison term in 1966 for theft. She began selling drugs and prostitution in the 1970’s. She has had numerous incarcerations for a variety of charges ranging from sale of drugs, possession of drugs, prostitution, shoplifting, theft, and others. She is currently involved in legal proceedings related to a theft charge as well as two of her children are also facing unrelated charges. As a result, her life has been a persistent labyrinth of poverty, drug abuse, hospitalizations, and periodic incarcerations that are the result of her criminal behavior, both petty and violent. Her family, with the exception of two of her sons, has also been multigenerationally involved in the penal system, not only her children but her grandchildren as well. Many of her children, and grandchildren, have learned their criminal behavior directly from Rosa Lee’s tutelage.
Women who are incarcerated face a double standard. Society are quick to assume that a woman who has committed a crime has no remorse than a men when they have committed the same crime. They also can face a harsher punishment than men 's. In the book couldn 't keep it to myself, women speak about their crimes, and the reasoning of why they committed the crime. In my opinion I believe these women can be forgiven depending on how serious their crime is, thus, i also believe they are going to learn from their mistakes and turn it into something productive.
Ainsley Soli is a good person who does not belong here. At least, that is what she has been telling herself the last two years as she sits alone in solitary confinement in San Quentin State Prison. The only human contact she has had in the last 742 days is with the feral, monstrous guards that pay her a visit with a tray full of slop called prison food every day. She has not spoken one word since May 24, 2014. Sometimes she wishes she could speak, but there is no use talking when no one listens to what you have to say.

But that wasn’t anything new. Initiating the plan was when her resolve had steeled. The sole thought going through her mind had been “It’s her or me” but how much more selfish could one get?
