Five -S (5 S):- 5S is a workplace technique that uses a set of five operations. It was mainly originated in Japan. The five Japanese words are: seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke. Van Wijngaarden, Scholten, and Van Wijk (2012) explain for SWOT-Analysis to prove meaningful throughout an organization, it is important for various stakeholders to be part of the brainstorming process when developing the components of a SWOT-Analysis. Therefore, if only health care managers or physicians are part of the SWOT-Analysis creation, then important information might be missed that is crucial to the successful implementation of a new project.
However, there is lack of understanding of how to implement a manufacturing improvement concept to a service oriented industry. Although there is strong evidence that, when properly applied, Lean can provided marked improvement in a healthcare setting. These improvements are tied to a strong commitment from the leadership to provide clear and concise guidance, goals, benchmarks, and to motivate the staff beyond the “bandwagon effect” by providing positive feedback and timely assessments of the effect of the new processes and protocols.
As part of my assignment in manufacturing management I am to research the importance of JIDOKA within a company, I will start off with a brief history of how it all came about, I will then be looking into the practical elements of the system and why it’s been used and how it’s been a huge success for the Toyota company which has catapulted them ahead of all other manufacturers. Advantages and disadvantages will also be looked at.
