The argument in this essay is going to be about whether it's good or bad if you take a period off schedule. I think it will be good if you would take a period off the schedule. Even though you are taking an elective away you might need credits for, there are many good benefits from it. Excluding the period would mean more class time. With a class gone that will mean there is less work to worry about. Then, when there is added time to everything, there will be a long lunch. Students would need all the time they need to do their work. So if they discontinue a period that would mean the other seven periods would be added more time. So when they have more time to work in class, they can get it done in class and not have homework. Since there
It would give the a little space to breathe a minute, and sit with friends. It would take away some of their stress, to sit and talk with some of their friends. Instead of the alternative of sitting there worried over how much time you have, and trying to choke down your food to finish it. Sometimes not even getting to say a word to anyone. Kids already stress enough over their work, and out of school activities, or things happening a home. So why do they need anymore stress? Stress causes kids to do bad academically, because it wears them down, making it hard for them to do their best. Kids might even get a little time to do some of their work at lunch, if given even a little bit of extra time. If you have forgotten an assignment, and you don't have study hall or panther time you're out of luck. Unless you do it at lunch, but with how much time were given now, that would mean giving up eating.
Therefore, passing periods should be extended to 10 minutes since there are upsides and very few downsides, the upsides: Have more time to get to their classes, students can be spared from the worst
If an hour and half of school were added every day, students would miss after school activities. Students will miss the fun extracurricular activities. and students won’t get the exercise they need.
Adding just an extra ten minutes to each class, the new schedule would create the potential for students to have more homework time, lab time, learning time, and/or valuable free time to read for pleasure, relax with music, draw, etc. (Hadfield). Especially as students get older and more involved in extracurriculars and rigorous academic courses, the need for any spare moment to get assignments done, study, or even sleep increases. When this time is unavailable or extremely hard to get, students are more likely to fall asleep in class, miss school due to illness, misbehave, cheat, hand in incomplete assignments, or drop out altogether. The same is largely true for teachers. The more homework turned in by students, the more grading has to be done by teachers who are already exhausted from a long, often repetitive day of work. Therefore, it is important to emphasize the fact that this extra time should not be used to cram in larger quantities of learning standards or homework problems, but rather to enhance the quality of the already demanding school regulations that are in schools
Under a year-round schedule, the students benefit by having smaller breaks, meaning they can quickly snap back to previously learned information. When information is stored, but not used for an extended period of time, anyone can lose that information. Due to the shorter breaks, students may find it difficult to find a summer job, or a job at all, but there are jobs that work with students or maybe just limit their time at the workplace.
Imagine a school year that gave the students one week off after every quarter and every Friday off. Does this sound exciting and rich with possibilities? Then ask the superintendent of the school district to consider year round school with only four days per week.First, students would not forget what they learned over the long summer. Next, parents would not have to get day care except on Fridays instead of the whole summer. Finally, teachers and students would have better relationships as they spend more time together instead of being rushed. Let’s take a look at some proof.
One teacher said ‘"I don't feel nearly as burned out because of the way we spread the breaks out"' (Learning That Lasts). The nine weeks in school then three weeks out gives teachers a lot of time to plan for the upcoming nine-weeks and time to relax. Another statement about the teacher's point-of-view of the new schedule, ‘"teachers who work for year-round schools say that it gives them a break when they are on the verge of a breakdown"' (Long). Teachers have an amazing job by giving children their education. However, it can be tiring having to do everything they have to do within a day to a week or even a month. The teachers are one of the top people in the school that need a break. With the new schedule, teacher work days are placed when they are most needed, at the end of the nine weeks. This gives them time to finish grading and lesson planning before their breaks are half-way over. In fact, the schools who use the Year Round schedule have a lower staff turnover rate (Long). Overall, teachers are happier and more relaxed when there is a YR schedule rather than a traditional
For example, a sixth grader has basketball practice everyday after school and it does not even end until five thirty. If the school board added the extension, school will end at four forty five. For that reason, the sixth grader may not be able to play basketball anymore. Not only with sports, but with clubs. Some clubs even help students with bringing grades up. Imagine how hard an extension may be on staff. Most of them have kids, their own homes, and tasks to complete in order to keep their family alive. Time in staffs’ lives is as important as the presidential election. To conclude, the more time spent in a classroom is less time to get very important tasks
Most importantly, students' education and health would benefit. Year-round schooling would allow students to move at their own pace. Students would also be able to retain information more easily because they won't have to remember what they learned over the long summer breaks. Lastly, a students' brain won't have nearly as much strain because students would be learning in a more structured schedule.
Research has shown that in schools with a later start time absences and tardies had significantly declined. Also with a later start to school teachers and students would have more time to get ready. Students would not have to wait outside their
According to a U.S. News report, the top two schools in California are Whitney High School and Stockton Collegiate International Secondary School. When I looked over their schedules, I found that both of these schools follow a block schedule and, while it may seem like a distant goal, these schools represent the possible advancement of the LCHS district if given the opportunity to explore the block schedule. Dr. Nesa Sasser of the Hearst Newspaper, recently wrote an article about the benefits and downfalls of the block schedule. She wrote that, by starting a block period schedule, teachers will be able to plan lessons more effectively, connect with their students on a deeper level, and there will be better time management. During block periods, teachers become less limited in how they plan their lesson. They are able to go in depth about concepts that are important and are given time to give examples to further the students’ comprehension of these topics. Using these examples, teachers are then able to see where the class is falling short, and reteach confusing lessons, allowing for a greater understanding of the overall subject. By decreasing the amount of classes per day, students would then be able to focus on the homework they are given for their next classes, reducing the amount of homework they have to complete and the information that needs to be learned for that specific night. Students will also be able to go to sleep earlier, increasing overall health and focus during class, providing long term
Some students would probably just skip it. And it wouldn't be fair to the teachers to waste their time when no one will use that time wisely. And it wouldn't be fair to the students who actually need this extra time.
Heineman Middle School needs longer passing periods because students and teachers need a break from classes. The teachers teach us a ton in classes and we have to have a break from the teaching before we go to the next class. I know
It is October 15th. Normally, students would be at school, working for hours on end at math, communication arts, and science. But this year is different. This year your school has now entered into the year-round calendar system. At home, you can enjoy the season of fall with pumpkins, Halloween, and beautiful weather. The idea of year round school has most commonly been pushed aside because of the misconception that it is too much school, or an on-going cycle of learning. However, those who declare this, do not understand the year-round school concept. Year-round school provides the same number of days as the traditional calendar. The difference, which will change our society and the achievement rate of our students in the future, is that the days are reordered into intersessions. The mechanisms of year round school include students attending school for a nine week period, then following this is a three week break. This rotation occurs year-round with a slightly longer summer break. Consequently, Though many people agree with keeping tradition with the popular school calendar, new evidence and testimony proves that year-round school provides the better avenue because the world is evolving, it benefits low income students, and intersessions are more effective than summer break.
If i had to choose whether we get extended time between classes it would be a no. Because the school days would be longer and it would be more of a mess than it already is, the hallways would be more crowded, and it would make it harder for us to get into our lockers.
