"They do not view YRE as a calendar configuration for space, achievement, or enrichment, but rather as a part of the transformation toward a philosophy of long continuous learning." (Guthrie). One of the main purposes of Year-Round Schooling is to lower the break time between school sessions. This causes children to have a better chance of retaining the knowledge that they learned from the previous year (Wyoming Tribune Eagle). Year-round schools consist of the same amount of school days, 180 days, the difference is that it is spread out over 12 months instead of the original 10. One teacher said ‘"I don't feel nearly as burned out because of the way we spread the breaks out"' (Learning That Lasts). The nine weeks in school then three weeks out gives teachers a lot of time to plan for the upcoming nine-weeks and time to relax. Another statement about the teacher's point-of-view of the new schedule, ‘"teachers who work for year-round schools say that it gives them a break when they are on the verge of a breakdown"' (Long). Teachers have an amazing job by giving children their education. However, it can be tiring having to do everything they have to do within a day to a week or even a month. The teachers are one of the top people in the school that need a break. With the new schedule, teacher work days are placed when they are most needed, at the end of the nine weeks. This gives them time to finish grading and lesson planning before their breaks are half-way over. In fact, the schools who use the Year Round schedule have a lower staff turnover rate (Long). Since this is a controversial school schedule due to the shorter summer break, each school system should have a string of schools (elementary, middle, and high school) try the schedule out for five-years and track the improvement throughout the years. Teachers no longer feel as if they are on the edge of a breakdown because of the new system. Since the teachers and students are in school for nine weeks have a week of break, they can know look forward to up to two or three weeks of break. With the cut down on the summer break to add to the other breaks throughout the year, students have a better chance of retaining knowledge. It would be beneficial for schools to switch to the year-round school schedule because the teachers are happier and not on the verge of a breakdown, the breaks are longer, and the students retain the knowledge from the previous
