Scholars believe tares are darnel (a noxious weedy rye grass often found in grain fields), whose seeds become toxic when certain fungi infest them, which in turn, renders them harmful to cash crops such as wheat. Uprooting them also uproots the wheat; therefore, farmers leave them in the ground until harvest time when the chaff can be safely separated from the grain and subsequently burnt. Good and evil similarly co-exist in the local church, which underscores the "for all people" aspect Church. However, problems arise when error receives equal voice to the Truth. The Truth shakes up the Church. Only Christ (The Word of Truth) can separate wheat from tares, truth from falsehood, and fact from fiction. Like an ox, threshing grain tied to a millstone, the worshiping church must circle God's Truth threshing out disciples. "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out grain" (1 Cor 9: 9), St Paul warns. In other words, do not hinder or silence those who are doing Christ's work. Because it was a common activity in ancient times, the Old Testament often mentions threshing grain. In worship, Christ's moves the Body of Christ into the death experience through God's creative process. There, all falsehood and rebellion are exposed as God's separates his permissive will from his creative will so truth, justice, and faith can emerge in its fullness.
