Technology in our society and all over the world has advanced tremendously through the years. If a person wanted to talk to someone other than face-to-face they would have to write a letter and mail it to that person. That was the only way people could really communicate with one another. They did not have a telephone, a computer or anything like we do now. In the 1990’s you did not see people walking down the street texting on their cell phones or getting on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The only way people could get information was through the newspapers or by socializing with other people. There have been many changes since then. A new communication technology I believe is having a positive influence on interpersonal relationships is facetime.This is because facetime allows nonverbal communication to happen which is one of the most important forms of communication as it plays a role in about 60% of all face to face conversations. Technology has brought many advancements to our everyday lives, although like most things there will be negative effects. Connecting online is easier than ever with social media sites growing daily. Basic writing skills and proper use of punctuation, along with social skills have diminished because of our dependence on technology.

Instead of sending letters that took weeks to get, we now send text messages which people receive in a few seconds. We also call but even calling is becoming rare since smartphones seemed to take over the world. This has impacted society today by making communication in general, easier. Now the process of doing tasks has increased, without texting or calling somebody, we wouldn't be able to call in sick on a work day.

Since the rise of technology in the 21st century , and technology has participated significantly in most aspects of our lives . First off technology has improved communication tremendously. In 1639 the first post office was established and people used correspondence carried by letter carriers, today our USPS has advanced to the use of technology. Technology also improved communication by having so many websites that allow people to talk to family, friends, and colleagues.

Through out time the amount of face-to-face communication has depleted. We hide behind our screen names because we are too afraid to say what we undoubtedly think in person. Technology. Some people think of the fastest computer on earth, the power grid, or how we are now able to pay and go with our credit card by simply wave the card over the reader. However, a massive part of technology revolves around our need to communicate. In this modern age that we thrive in, communication technologies have greatly impacted society by changing the parameters in which social, environmental, health and safety now operate.

Technology has had a massive influence on earth, and social communicating, notably since newest advances in technology have now been demonstrated. It's led in forming the way that individuals communicate with each other. It's a debatable issue on perhaps the advances in tech has shifted interpersonal communication for the better or, the worse. It's caused changes to the world that empowers us to complete things time economically and efficiently. The more heightened technology has become its enabled information to travel faster, it features an enormous effect on the current generation, particularly with the latest obsession that people have with social networking.

Our daily life is stuffed up with emails, text messages and constant social media. All of this raises a question about whether technology is ruining or enhancing the quality of interaction with others that we need as human-beings. Sherry Turkle in her essay, “No Need to Call” and Jenna Wortham in her essay, “I Had a Nice time with You Tonight On the App” explores this question but take opposing positions. Turkle argues that technology is posing a threat to the human race by ruining the quality of interaction in between people, while Wortham argues technology is a great source for many people in different ways, she also believes romantic and intimate conversations can still take place through technology. Based on my personal experiences, both arguments have merit: Technology can impair as well as enhance our relationships with others based on a determination of people how and what ways they use technology.
