| In 1955, Disneyland was introduced to the American public by creator Walt Disney. It was one of the first theme parks offered in America and attracted crowds of young children and families. The theme park was inspired by many of Walt Disney’s animated features as well as historical figures like Mark Twain and Abraham Lincoln.

Disney continued to grow, throughout the years with multiple films being created throughout the 1940’s through the 1950’s ("Disney History," n.d.). However, with all the successes that Walt saw he felt the need to branch out and in 1955 Disneyland opened ("Disney History," n.d.). The amusement or theme park, was such a success that Disney opened a second park on October 1, 1971 that we all know as Walt Disney World ("Disney History," n.d.). Disney continued to grow, evolve, and spread to other countries ("Disney History," n.d.). Purchasing Discover magazine in 1991, opening Disneyland Paris in 1992, and in 1994 held the stage production of Beauty and the Beast ("Disney History," n.d.). Today, Disneyland hosts more than 14 million visitors a year, who spend close to $3 billion.

To start with, Disney turned his TV series into a theme park. Disney's TV series was so popular that it ran for 29 seasons and because it was so popular Disneyland opened. Disneyland was a huge success. Disneyland the series became a theme park because it was so popular and millions of people loved the characters. People wanted to go see the characters and interact with them. So Disney created a place where it was possible for people to do that (Beattie). This suggests that viewers wanted to spend time with the characters they watched at home. Disney had a great idea to turn his shows into an amusement park, which attracted a lot of people. At the same time, Disney used his T.V. show to advertise his amusement park. “By 1954, Disney had recognized the growing popularity of television and produced a series called Disneyland, which he initially used to promote his new Disneyland theme park in California” (Lackmann). This maintains that Disney was a smart and bright person who knew how to be successful. Then he made films based on Aespo’s fables. It quickly went bankrupted. When World War Two started 94% of his work was for the army. He made training, propaganda and health films for the armed services. Walt Disney created many different characters that we all know today. One of the most famous is Mickey the Mouse who’s original name was Mortimer. Disney did the voices of some of his characters that he created. He did the voices for Mickey Mouse and Minnie from 1925-1946 and then again from 1955-1959. On July 13, 1925 Walt Disney married on of his first employees, Lillian. They had two children together Diane and Sharon. Disneyland started out as a vision that kids and grownups could have fun together. The original plans for Disneyland were spots to be on 8 acres next to Burbank studios. Then he realized that 8 acres was not enough. He found 160 acres grove near the junction of Santa Ana Freeway. Then he was faced with the question how was he going to do it because it was never done before. Disneyland took 52 months of construction and opened on October 1, 1982. Walt Disney spent his 65th birthday in the hospital. He died on December 15, 1965 because of lung cancer. After his death the company continued to make movies and build Disney world. Walt Disney has been awarded many Oscars.

Throughout history there is no one else like Walt Disney. He has been one of the most influential people of this century and changed the world with his imagination and creative skills. His unique abilities started from his childhood and early business ventures. He has won many awards that have even set records. Everyday people all around the globe are entertained by some creation made by Walt Disney. He has made such an impact on the world we live in with his success; his legacy will live on forever.

Walt’s desire for his theme park was for it to be a safe, clean, educational, and fun place for children of all ages to experience magic, joy, and inspiration. He saw his $17 million dream become a reality when the park opened in 1955. After seeing the astounding success of Disneyland, Walt began planning for a second park in Orlando, Florida. He would never get to see that dream become a reality, because in 1966, Walt was diagnosed with lung cancer, and at the age of sixty-five, died on December 15. His brother, Roy, took over the construction of the new park, which opened in 1971 with the name Walt Disney

On opening day, October 25th, 1971, many people knew there was something special about Walt Disney World. It took a lot of staff and crew makers to make Disney as magical as it is today. There were only about twenty four attractions on opening day and now it has become the tenth best vacationing spot in the world with five different theme parks to make up Walt Disney World as a whole. The changes in parades, parks and rides have truly made it more than an amusement park.
