Ted Bundy’s early childhood wasn’t any more problem than the average kids. Ted was a good kid, born in November 24, 1946 at the Elizabeth Lund Home For Unwed Mothers in Burlington, Vermont. Bundy grew up in Philadelphia the home of his grandparents, he grew to believe his biological mother was his sister and his grandparents were his parents. His early school years weren’t easy; he was bullied and made fun of. The author of the book Ted Bund: Conversations with a killer analyzed Ted’s behavior and said he was not like the other children, he looked like them and acted like them but he was haunted by something else: a subtlety of a cat. Despite being bullied Ted maintained a high grade average throughout high school and continue in college. …show more content…
Both victims disappeared the same day July 14th.
Bundy decided to take his crimes to different states, so he would travel and kill, this time he started in Utah. He used excused such as his car wouldn’t start, he had difficulties loading his boat onto his car, he had both a leg and an arm cast he used to make his preys believe him. Melissa Smith 17 another one of his victims was a police chief’s daughter, he often told her to be careful. On October 18 1974 she vanished to be found dead nine days later strangled, sodomized and raped. Thirteen days after Halloween Laura Aime 17 disappeared. Her body was found, on thanksgiving in the Wasatch Mountains lying dead by a river. Laura had been beaten in the head with a crowbar, raped and sodomized as well. Officials believe Aime to have been killed else where due to the fact that the place she was found there was lack of blood and other than the body they had no physical evidence. The crimes scenes and the victims from Utah and Washington were so similar. Investigators from Utah got in contact with the Washington police, they were frantically searching for the man responsible for these horrible crimes and were piecing the puzzle together. Elizabeth his current girlfriend heard of the terrible news in the papers and agreed that Ted Bundy did resemble the description given to the police by eye- witnesses. Elizabeth got a hold of the police anonymously told them that her boyfriend might be the killer and provided
He consistently fought for his life against the courts, giving confessions in an attempt to receive less of a penalty, or at least delay his death. He confessed to 8 killings in Washington that had taken place in 1974(“Bundy Details…”), and indicated that he had killed anywhere from 40 to 50 women(Tilstone). Although the actual number of his victims is unknown, it is believed that Ted Bundy could have killed up to 100 women, 36 of which he admitted to(Biography.com). In the book Serial Murder, by Ronald M. Holmes, it is stated that Ted was questioned about whether he had killed the 36 women, to which he replied “Add one digit to that and you’ll have it.” This could mean a number of things, like which digit do we have to add, and where? Did he murder 136 women? 361? We might not ever find out. His last minute confessions would help to close up to 23 pending cases of women that were either missing or had been found dead(Lamar). Of all of the open cases, there were three major investigators surrounding the killings of Ted Bundy. Bob Keppel of the King County Police Department in Seattle, Jerry Thompson of the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and Michael Fisher of the Glenwood Springs District Attorney’s Office in Colorado. Fisher and Thompson noticed similarities in the disappearances and murders that they both had in their areas, and connected them to the same suspect(Holmes). After all of his arrests and all of the evidence piling up against him, Ted Bundy was sure to lose the many cases against
As stated before, Bundy had killed over 30 women. This vast number of killings would qualify him to be considered a “serial killer”. Although serial killers are not common among society, the act of killing another person intentionally, or homicide, is fairly common. Homicide is a crime that usually always shocks the public when they hear of it because it is not
The police cooperation was the first initial process of the investigation. The murders had started in Seattle, Washington on January 31, 1974. Ted Bundy was living in Seattle and attending school at the University of Washington at that present time. The first reported victim was a twenty-one year old by the name of Lynda Ann Healy. She had been abducted from her apartment and the officers could only find her nightgown that was neatly hung up in her closest with blood on it and her sheets also had traces of blood. The police conducted searches but was unable to find Lynda. On March 12, Donna Gail Mason at Evergreen State College located in Olympia, Washington was last seen leaving her dorm to attend a concert. She was later reported missing and was not located. In Ellensburg, Washington at Central Washington State College Susan Elaine Rancourt disappeared from her campus on April 17, 1974. The
He disabled a woman’s car to make her less mobile and more vulnerable, which satisfied his sexual fantasies. The people who knew Ted would never guess for a second that he was living the life of this sex-obsessed criminal. He received good grades, he regularly attended church, and he was active in Boy Scouts (11). Ted Bundy appeared as an average teenager.
Looking into Bundy's life, many of the facts and images from his early life stand in stark contrast to the vicious killings he engaged in. The young many Bundy was well behaved and "grew up an attractive teen" that was "generally liked and who performed well in school," according to Charles Montaldo writing in About.com. When he enrolled in the University of Puget Sound, he did very well in his schoolwork but he was embarrassed that he had so little money and the students around him were far wealthier, so he transferred to the University of Washington
Ted Bundy was an American born rapist, a necrophile; a serial killer and a kidnapper who assaulted and murdered several young women during the 1970’s. The criminal kept on denying the charges for more than ten years and later confessed of having committed the thirty homicide crimes in seven different states before his execution (Rule, 2009). Bundy’s handsome and charismatic appearance made it possible for him to easily win the confidence of young women who were always his targets. He broke into the dwellings of his victims at night and bludgeoned them as they slept. He also approached young women in public places where he impersonated as an authority figure or feigned injury on his victim before empowering and assaulting at a
Theodore Bundy was an infamous American serial killer who preyed upon numerous young women during the 1970s and possibly earlier. He was associated with at least 30 counts of homicide and suspected of an estimated one hundred or more. Beyond homicide, he also made it apparent that he was capable of other sinister crimes such as rape, kidnapping, and necrophilia. His most frequent method of killing was an attack with a blunt weapon to the head. However, he did not merely kill his victims; evidence concludes that each were also sexually assaulted and sodomized. It is reported that he even revisited his crime scenes to further engage in sexual acts with the decomposing corpses. Moreover, at least 12 of his victims had been decapitated .
His first murder is believed to have occurred in 1974, when a young woman was kidnapped from her basement apartment in Seattle. The only evidence that remained was a few blood stains (Salem Press, 2008). Upsurges in abductions of young women, in their college years, around the King County area in Washington followed suit. As time progressed, skeletonized remains of those missing women were later discovered amongst the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. After kidnapping his victims, Bundy would often rendered them unconscious, take them to a remote location where he would then strangle and assault them (Salem Press, 2008).
In the year 2010, 26-year-old Kenzie Houk was found murdered in her bed. Kenzie was shot in her head. Kenzie was also eight months pregnant when she was murdered (nydailynews.com). The person who found the body was her 4-year-old daughter. When the police officers arrived at the scene, they searched to see if anybody broke into the house. The police officers were unable to find any force entry. The police officers even thought it was a possibility that Kenzie ex-boyfriend could of committed the murder, but they were unable to connect him to the murder. Eventually, the police officers found out that the murderer was none other then the 11-year-old Jordan Anthony Brown.
According to the text the rational choice theory is the view that crime is a function of a decision-making process in which the potential offender weighs the potential costs and benefits of an illegal act. Evaluating Ted Bundy according to the rational choice theory, he knew what he was doing weighed his options, picked how he would attack kill and rape his victims. He meticulously sought out his victims. Typically Bundy would bludgeon his victims, strangle them to death then rape them or engage in necrophilia. According to this theory he fully planned out each attack knowing that it was wrong, illegal, and immoral.
Ted Bundy, infamous serial rapist and murderer, was first arrested for kidnapping and was sentenced for time in prison. He escaped two years later, and was recaptured eight days later. But he did not give up, again December 1977 he escaped and the authorities did not discover till fifteen hours later, giving him a head start to Florida, where he was headed. The following January one night, he attacked four girls and killed two of them, his last ones because in July 1979, he was convicted of murderer twice for those last ones. As he was investigated more, he has confessed to thirty six plus murderer, and investigator still suspect it to be much more, nonetheless, he killed people for his own satisfaction. Did he deserve the death penalty? Did he deserve to die when he kill only almost 40 people? It may be a little too late to ask that because on January 24, 1989, he died in Florida’s electric chair as he consewuence. Nonetheless, and as unfortunate as it it, people like bundy exist today, some yet to be discovered.
No one will ever really know what happened to set Ted Bundy off, but around 1973 he began raping and murdering women at a surprising rate. No one really knows exactly when and how many woman he had murdered but he was a prime suspect in many unsolved murders. Kathy Devine was last seen getting into a green pick-up on November 25, 1973, which was later found that Ted Bundy had the same green pick-up at the time. Fifteen year old Divine's decomposed remains were found on December 6 with her jeans cut open in between her legs. Her throat was cut and the investigators concluded that she was murdered right after she disappeared and there were no leads or evidence to bring someone to justice for the acts they have committed on this poor girl.
Ted Bundy's life changed forever in the spring of 1967, when he met and fell in love with the woman of his dreams. She was beautiful, sophisticated and from a wealthy family. She was Ted's first love and possibly his first sexual encounter. She liked him a lot, but did not have the same deep feelings towards him. This didn't discourage Ted Bundy since he would ask her to marry him on several occasions. She was very reluctant to make a serious commitment, because she felt that Ted had no future goals or real direction in his life. Ted began to try to impress her by lying and even winning a summer scholarship from Stanford to try to influence her feelings for him. But the mask of
