The performance that I chose to examine is from the movie “Airplane”. Specifically, I will analyze Robert Hay’s performance where he portrays Ted Striker. Ted Striker is seen as an unconfident, emotionally unstable, maladroit young man with a critical “drinking problem”. This character already proves to be different from the actor because Robert Hay’s is a successful gentleman with his head on his shoulders and does not have a drinking problem. As Ted struggles to find his true self after accidently killing a group of men on a mission he was in charge of, he lands himself in a sticky situation. He followed his romantic lover who was a flight attendant onboard a flight enroute to Chicago. On board the plane, the passengers and pilots get severely
For a story by an author to be signified as a classic literature piece, it requires a timeless feature which the main passage can echo throughout the ages. Particularly, a relation to society's behavior and values. The characters, created by Washington Irving, most especially Tom Walker, gives us an insight on how his life centered predominantly on wealth up to the point where he is consumed by temptation. Tom Walker’s engagement in a deal with the Devil portrays how money-driven society has become more prominent through the times of the 1700s and today's world.
This realistic fiction novel, by Edward Bloor, describes the problems and relationships that Paul discovers when unlocking the meaning of truth, no matter the obstacles people put up to block him from it. The motif of “sight”, is what introduces Paul to the universal statement of truth and makes him aware of what the people surrounding him can and cannot “see”. Paul Fisher, the main character, uses the motif of sight to have a new understanding of his friends, family, and himself.
There are many young aged kids and teens who experience bullying, some of them bullied for their appearance, some for their popularity status, and others surprisingly let themselves. However, it’s pretty doubtful anyone really knows why a kid would let themselves be bullied. Author Gary Soto developed a short story called “Fear” designating bullying with no specific theme but made to feel the anxiety or agitation of its presence of danger, pain, and evil. This author's breathtaking story is about a young 5th-grade boy named Frankie T. (F.T) with many things gone wrong in his family/life. Those things turned him to be a bully and later someone who would drown their own brother in a pool, and beat a woman with a lengthened pipe in a burglary years later. Frankie T. is an interesting character that can be better understood by examining his Character Traits, Contributing Factors, and his Motivations.
Alex ‘Hitch’ Hitchens is the man who has it all. Or at least that’s how it seems. He is
In the novel Black by Ted Dekker, the main character Thomas changes heavily throughout the story. At the beginning he is very irresponsible and makes bad choices left and right. By the end he has shaped up and has become somewhat a leader throughout all the challenges he faced.
In the novel The Running Man, the author Michael Bauer highlights the experiences of three characters whose voices are misrepresented in the text. Tom Leyton has many dark secrets that he has kept hidden from everyone. Mrs Mossop’s painful childhood has also had an impact on her negative thoughts on Tom Leyton. Joseph Davidson is an introvert whose personal struggles impact on his self esteem and friendships at school. Techniques such as silkworm metaphor and motif represent their lives and how they play out during the novel,
In any case... just in light of the fact that she truly needs him to, he can't. Tom needs to state yes, hes eager and
Throughout the novel Johnny Tremain, the author, Esther Forbes, displays the universal concepts of growing up and changing. When the story began, the protagonist, Johnny Tremain, was a fourteen-year-old boy. At the end of the novel, Johnny emerges as a sixteen-year-old man, unrecognizable from his younger self, due to carrying characteristics that contrast the traits of the young boy he once was. As Johnny aged in the story, he underwent immense changes. Johnny had changed by gaining the knowledge of how to make good choices, obtaining a better comprehension on things in life, and learning to value certain items or deeds in life.
In Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, the main character, Holden, had many opportunities to learn life lessons but every time his faulty thinking caused him to focus on the problem and not the solution. Whenever Holden looks at situations he negatively overgeneralizes them with a bad attitude rather than learning from it.

Jimmy Cross is the First Lieutenant who carries “the responsibility for the lives of his men” (O’Brien 429). Cross let his imagined love get in the way of his responsibilities and one of his men was killed. Cross carries the weight of Lavender’s death and adds that to the weight of his renewed responsibility to his men (427-437).
In this short story by Tim O’Brien, Lieutenant Jimmy cross leads a platoon of men in the Vietnam War. Unable to keep his thoughts from his unrequited love interested, Martha, Cross allowed his platoon to become lax in their duties and mentally removed from the war. The conflict arises when one of his men, Ted Lavender, is killed on a mission. The conflict is resolved when Lieutenant Cross abandons his youthful fantasy world for the reality of the war he is living in. Cross finds new purpose in the vigilant leadership of his men.
Jimmy cross physically carried the basic needs of survival, like his compass, maps, gun, and extra ammo. He also carried personal and emotionally items such as his unrequited love, Martha, pictures and her letters; emotionally he carried the responsibility for the lives of his men. This shows how jimmy cared about his love and the weight he has to carry for his men. This also shows us his personal life and feelings, Martha’s innocent letter and pictures gave Jimmy a sense of fantasy in his all too real reality.
One might call Robert Benton’s direction mechanical, but his cast excels in roles that seem solely written for their personalities. Its supporting cast, including Jane Alexander and JoBeth Williams, provide superb performances. Primarily, I must pay tribute to Dustin Hoffman for his acting. We’re familiar with somewhat unconventional roles, as opposed to his excellently delivered role of a more characteristic man with very human qualities.
Dexter Morgan is the main character off the show Dexter. He lives an overall normal life with friends, co-workers, and even family close by his side. He may seem like your average normal man, but there is a lot more hidden in plain sight. He works as a blood spatter analyst at the Miami Metro Police Department, and he kills people while pretending to live a normal live. While he is a good person overall and does good deeds for others, he is a cold blooded murderer. Dexter Morgan is a misunderstood character because he tries to cover up his murders by doing good deeds and killing a certain way.
