TENS unit People live their lives in pain every day, are you one of those people? Well, what if I told you there could be a solution to your pain?
The Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation or TENS is used to help with pain. It is applied using various waveforms and a variety of other electrical stimulation parameters. There are three main types of TENS to choose from. There is conventional TENS, Low Rate TENS, and Burst mode TENS. Conventional TENS is also known as high rate TENS. It uses short duration high frequency pulses at a current amplitude sufficient enough to produce a comfortable sensation without muscle contractions to help with pain.3 High rate can be applied for 24 hours at a time with a rate of 80-100 pps. The last group of rats received no TENS at all. “Thermal and mechanical pain thresholds were assessed in right hind paw before and 12 days after the CCI surgery.”(Somers & Clemente) 2 The results concluded several things about TENS managing neuropathic pain. “Applying the high rate frequency daily reduced the development of mechanical allodynia in CCI rats and low rate frequency reduced the development of thermal allodynia, but only when the TENS was delivered on the left side.”(Somers & Clemente) 2 “Indications showed that TENS delivered contralateral to a nerve injury best reduces allodynia development.”(Somers & Clemente) 2 “Comprehensive reduction of allodynia development would need to be a combination of high and low frequency TENS intervention.”(Somers & Clemente) 2
The second journal article I found was about TENS at both high and low rate frequencies reducing primary hyperalgesia in rats with joint
* Osteopathy is also said to help relieve pain that individuals experience for a number of different reasons, this is done by improving mobility and reducing inflammation by using gentle, manual osteopathic techniques. (Hoddesdon osteopathic & sports injury clinic , 2016)
Within Tennessee, Three Grand Regions had emerged: East, Middle and West Tennessee. These regions were defined not only geographically but also by their population size, their economy and their views on freedom especially regarding slavery.
Pain is not inevitable and can be treated. To live a life hampered by pain when treatment is available, is to cheat one out of the full quality of life that is possible.
To most people, pain is a nuisance, but to others pain controls their life. The feeling discomforts us in ways that can sometimes seem almost imaginable. These feelings can lead to many different side effects if not dealt with or diagnosed. These effects can include depression, anxiety, and incredible amount of stress. The truth about pain is that it is vital to our existence. Without the nervous system responding to pain, we would have no idea if we were touching a hot stove, being stuck by a porcupine’s needles, or something else that could leave a lasting effect upon our bodies without us even knowing anything about it.
The relationship discovered in the articles written by Denneson, et., al (2011) and Fletcher, et., al (2016) discuss how the Department of Veterans Affair is studying the significance of using complementary alternative medicine to effectively control chronic noncancerous pain versus the continuous use of opioids. Massage therapy was the most preferred and effective method for management of pain. In the article written by Fletcher, et., al (2016), about 60 percent of the outpatient was taking opioids for management of chronic pain.

The most controversial stance in the case is that the Florida Stand Your Ground self-defense
The following analysis will observe various methods of CAM pain reduction, highlighting two major CAM therapies of interest: music therapy, animal therapy. In addition, the following analysis will discuss how different demographics react to such therapies, with gender, age, ethnicity, and education level playing a role in relation to a patient’s willingness to be open to CAM. Lastly this analysis will discuss the drawbacks of CAM therapies in the medical community today, emphasising a lack of discussion between provider and patient, and the general lack of clinical education surrounding CAM therapies within the medical community.
“Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals (Mayoclinic Staff, 2015).” There are several theories as to why this pain continues to exist post treatment. Researchers have postulated that this disease process amplifies painful sensations in your brain, others retain that it acts like an arthritic condition as it degrades the joint capsule and most soft tissue within. These patients can display a wide variety of symptoms ranging from sleep problems and fatigue, to pain and muscle spasms and or muscle
A post hoc-pair-wise comparison test was done to obtain the mean change among the three treatment groups with p values. P values that was greater than 0.5 were considered to be significant for the study. The author found that there were some changes in the participants physical activities where the TENS unit had caused the Fibromyalgia pain to subside where patients were able to have an improved quality of life. The effectiveness of this study does remain controversial due to TENS unit being self-administered by the
Chronic pain is any pain that lasts longer than 3 months (FNLM, 2011). A common type of chronic pain is neuropathic pain which occurs when the nerves themselves are damaged by injury or disease (Veteran Mates, 2013). Neuropathic pain is a complex condition that is often underdiagnosed or undertreated, resulting in negative physical, psychological and social impacts (Veteran Mates, 2013). Therefore early management is critical in order to improve the person’s quality of life and to reduce the chance of the pain becoming persistent (Pain Health, 2015). The following 5 articles relating to the management of neuropathic pain will be annotated, including a summary of the main
In another clinical study, at one year post trauma, a paraplegic subject had developed a chronic pressure ulcer at his coccyx prominence. At fourteen months after the ulcer appearance remained and continued to grow in diameter and depth and was being treated according to COPs. At that time a pulse electromagnetic force (PEMF) stimulator was applied over vertebrae T7-T8, the site of the spinal cord complete anatomical transection, which was 45 cm away from the ulcer center (Fig. 2A). Within 5 days of applying the PEMF stimulator, the ulcer began to heal, indicated by the surface of the ulcer becoming increasingly rosy and then red, associated with angiogenesis, the wound began to fill, and the bed tissue became granulated (Fig. 2B). After 8 weeks of daily electrical stimulation, the ulcer tissue had become well vascularized and well healed.[202] The ulcer did not reappear for more than 1 year post healing.[202] These data indicate that even an extremely weak electrical stimulation can induce ulcer pain elimination and elimination
pain is also medically accepted and well researched. This is referred to as the "gate-control "
Pain is a basic mechanism in life that helps the body identify that something is wrong or dangerous. Without pain, the body would be severely damaged without realizing it. Pain can become an inconvenience when it spirals out of control; chronic pain, for example, leaves many miserable and unable to enjoy life to its fullest extent even with traditional medical intervention. Around 80% of people report chronic pain in their lifetime (Holtzman & Beggs, 2013). People afflicted by chronic back pain turn to modern medicine for relief, but even these alternatives are not always 100% effective.
Pain is a type of fuel that someone can resort to too keep going. Pain is a useful tool to get what you want. You can crush a person’s soul with pain or you can free it. You can be at the top of the world if you use
