Security measures drastically increased after 9/11. 9/11 was an act of terrorism that would change the way the country handled privacy. Americans needed to voice their opinions after this happened and have their own rights protected. The need to protect individual rights is the utmost important aspect in a thriving U.S. society.

This essay will discuss the past and present of Terrorism. From the Jewish Zealots of the 1st Century committing incidents of terrorism against the Romans to Hitler's Germany's committing atrocities against the people to the acts of terrorism that Ireland's IRA commit(ed) against the British Government to the ultimate act of Terrorism on the World Trade Centre, Terrorism has always existed. This essay will start with a brief summary of terrorism from the 1st century the early 20th century. Then it will conduct a brief case study on Nazi Germany. George Washington Bush once said, “There’s no bigger task than protecting the homeland of our country.” Terrorism was and still is a huge problem in America and every other country in the world. We, as Americans, are privileged to live in a country where no real threats to our safety exist, no one pushes their religious or political beliefs on us and we are not threatened by an ongoing violence in our country. Although terrorism always has been and always will be an ongoing event, 9/11, the death of Osama bin Laden, and the Afghanistan war have been tremendous factors in learning how to protect this country.

Despite this vast growth in the field, there is a lot we do not know about the effects of terrorism, and there are several areas of debate amongst terrorism scholars and experts. It is evident that terrorism tactics are growing increasingly complex. “The terrorist of yesterday is the hero of today and the hero of yesterday becomes the terrorist of today” (If you quoted someone you need a reference here). It is important to know what terrorism is in the present day and what is not.

Terrorism is a big issue that the United States faces today. If we back up into time 15 years ago when we were attack by Al Qaeda in New York City we were not prepare for any type of terrorist attack. Now 15 years later our security of preventing attacks have approved in airports majorly.
