This includes the enforcement of health, safety and consumer regulations and protecting the rights of the elderly and disabled.

There is a plethora of information on fighting identity theft. A link from the home page tells you how to protect yourself and what six steps you need to take in the event you are or believer that you are a victim. The steps listed are links to pages that tell you exactly how to complete that step with agencies and contact information. For example, step one is Stop ongoing damage. Tells you to close certain accounts, how to obtain a fraud alert, get a free credit report and has the contact information for all three credit reporting agencies and check verification companies. The Attorney Generals Office also handles all of the child support cases. There are pages and pages of information for both custodial and non-custodial parents. Advising parents of what their rights are, how to apply for services, employers’ responsibilities, forms, seeking employment with links to Texas Workforce Commission, child support …show more content…
I thought the facebook another informative outlet. The page read like anyone elses page, where he’s been, photo opportunities. The AG recently spoke a rotary club meeting in Houston, so there were pictures of him with various others. Links and posts with other relevant “current events” and getting the word out about his pet projects like human trafficking, which happens to be a recurring theme on all of the AG’s websites and media. Information about stopping, reporting and how to identify human trafficking can be found on almost all of the forums. Twitter included everything from congratulating the Austin Police on a job well done capturing a suspect, crime alerts, links to the AG’s website, child support information, Medicaid fraud, how to fill out an online complaint and the list is endless. I was kind of impressed with twitter account and will follow it. I personally feel twitter is stupid as a social media by from reliable sources could be a great way to receive news and updates. Last but not least YouTube; this was more of the same information, but presented in an informal lecture where Ken talks to the camera and very simply gets his message across. There are twenty-one videos in a series on human trafficking, a press release about a coalition and legislation to stop human trafficking “OAG Announces Partnership With Texas Truckers
The state bureaucracy administers/implements the laws of Texas. It is run by executives whose job is to see that the laws of the state are implemented according to the will and intent of the Legislature. Ideally, these executive branch officials or bureaucrats are to administer their duties and implement the laws in a neutral manner, uninfluenced by politics. In reality, state bureaucrats are important players in not just implementation, but also policy making. In Texas, there is no overall central governing or controlling authority. Government authority in Texas is very decentralized, and rests within many independent state agencies.
The executive branch of Texas is like the federal government meaning that the governor is like the president because he is also the commander in chief of the military forces which is the police officers, the National Guard units, and the department of public safety. They also have the power to elect judges to fill in spots until the next election. The governor is paid one
The most common Governmental figure in Texas is the Governor. This power is nothing more than that of a celebrity status. Although the Governor has the power to appoint independent boards and commissions, the senate has to confirm these appointments. This is called senatorial courtesy What is meant when this job is more like a celebrity is because of the Governors ceremonial roles as acting as Chief of State. This increases the Governors popularity and prestige, and broadens the image of the office. One important power or role that the Governor is responsible for is coordinating relations between Texas and other states. This can definitely be an important factor. For example, the need of federal aid during the time of an emergency can require the help of other states. The Governor also acts as the Chief Budget officer of the state. Even though the presiding officer presides over this office, the Governor does have some control. This is a very effective example of a good trustworthy system.
The core function of the Texas Legislature is to formulate and enact laws. Apart from the enactment of laws, the legislative body is also mandated with the functions of shaping the state’s political agenda, performing checks and balances on state of the state’s government, pass the state’s budget, as well as oversee the functions of the administration. Similarly, the body also sets the critical details or a court’s organizational procedures when it comes to matters that pertain to impeachment and court disputes regarding election petitions. It is equally important to mention that the body is also mandated with the function of informing and educating the electorate regarding the critical functions the body is required to deliver to the people as provided for by the laws of the State of Texas (Dautrich and Yalof 684).
First is the executive branch. The executive branch is often referred to as a “plural executive” because many of the offices in that branch of government are elected directly by Texas voters. The Executive Department of the State is composed of the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Comptroller of Public Accounts, the Commissioner of the General Land Office, the Attorney General and the Secretary of State, all of whom are elected except the Secretary of State (who is appointed by the Governor). The current governor of Texas (48th) is Republican Greg Abbott, a former lawyer and former Attorney General. In order to be the governor of Texas, one must be at least 30 years of age, a US citizen, a registered voter, and must be living in Texas for at least the last 5 years. Being Governor is a 4 year term with no term limits and is a full time job with a salary of $150,000 per year. The Governor has powers including some law enforcement powers, some military powers, the title of “Head of State” who gives the State of the State Address, can appoint department heads like the department head of Park and Wildlife and Department of Transportation, and he
The Texas state legislature is responsible for addressing constituents’ interests and concerns. It is composed of two chambers or houses: The House of Representatives (150 members) and The Senate (31 members). House members serve for two years, each representing a district and 168,000 people. In the other hand, Senators serve four-year terms and represent approximately 811,000 constituents.
Texas has a reputation throughout history of differing views from the federal government in laws and politics pertaining to social, fiscal, and educational issues. On the whole, Texas operates as a largely conservative state. Because of this, policy-making is often right wing. With the institution of a Democratic, liberal president, the State’s dissent from the Federal government has only increased over certain issues. One hot topic of the 2012 Presidential election was immigration. With the major increase in immigration, it is no surprise that the issue was so emphasized. Between 2000 and 2011 there was a 30 percent
“The governor also appoints Texans to a wide range of advisory bodies and task forces that assist him with specific issues” (Office of the Governor Greg Abbott).

The lieutenant governor has a lot of power in the legislative. They are the head of the Senate which lets them be able to debate and vote on bills. The lieutenant governor also has spots on committees in the Senate giving them the power of killing a bill. They also appoint all the members of committees thus giving them a lot of power and sway over these committees.
When this happens the lieutenant governorship is left vacant and the Senate “elects one of their members to fill the office” until the next general election (Biles 325). The Attorney General represents the state in all legal matters and advises the state and local authorities when questioned for help in matters of the law. The comptroller of public accounts serves as treasurer for the state of Texas, and is the “state’s chief accounting officer and tax collector” (Biles 326). Those in position as commissioner of the general land office, oversee the distribution of Texas’ land resources such as oil and gas, and preside over the Permanent School Fund which provides money to the public school systems. By Texas law the “commissioner of agriculture is supposed to be a ‘practicing farmer’…
For instance, the Speaker of the House must set the agenda, appoint chairs of committees and, have an impact over what gets voted on in the legislature (Champagne et al., 2017, p.209). Another important persona in the state legislature is the lieutenant governor; the president of the state senate. He is held accountable for setting the legislative agenda and appointing committee chairs (Champagne et al., 2017, p.210). Moreover, the committee system of the state legislature must work together to perform more common governmental tasks. Such as, when the Texas Senate and House members work together to pass a new law (Champagne et al., 2017, p. 211-212).
When I travel outside of Texas, whether it is another state in the United States or a different country, I enjoy responding to the question “where are you from?” I never fail to respond with a large smile and pride in my voice as I say, with a forced Texan accent “born and raised in Texas”. Majority of Texans are proud of their state, myself included. Every Texan loves saying the phrase “Everything is bigger in Texas”, and considering that Texas is a very large state, the second largest in the United States at 268,581 miles, it is an appropriate saying. I never really paid attention to the economy in Texas, and it was very intriguing learning about the progression of the Texas economy and its changes in the past. Since the Great Recession Texas has created more jobs than
There has been seven Texas Constitutions since 1827 including our current Constitution, which was established on 1876. Our current constitution has been amended hundreds of times because of its tight restrictions. The Legislative department is the dominant branch of the Texas Constitution it is subject to check and balances in the tripartite system. The Executive department limits the government’s power, and the judicial powers is divided into smaller courts. These three branches of the Texas are examples of how restricted and limited our constitution is.
Identity theft is not a new crime. Throughout history, unscrupulous individuals have pretended to be people they are not, often with the goal of political, social, or financial gain. With the right appearance and demeanor, people have falsely presented themselves as kings and bishops. Today, in our information age, identity theft is a far more prevalent problem. With access to names, Social Security numbers, and other personal information, thieves are able to steal identities, leaving the victims struggling to clear their good names. Identity theft is a serious problem that claims millions of innocent victims, and the government must implement better regulations to help put an end to this crime.
