Black History Month is the month where blacks get recognized for what they did. Jesse E founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. It recognized researched and promoted achievements to Black Americans and Africans. They sponsored the group to choose the second week of February. They did this to remember Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Black History Month began in 1915 after the slaves were illegal in the United States.Nine years later, the Black Americans and Africans were recognized for their accomplishments. In the 1960’s, Negro history week changed into Black History Month for many colleges.President Gerald Ford recognized Black History Month in 1976. He said that it should never be forgotten throughout the

1. Coates has a somewhat chilling description of schools. What are some of the phrases he uses to describe them?
African Americans have endured many trials and tribulations over the centuries. Our people have suffered from war, violence, and anguish simply because of the color of our skin. Our history has been so blatantly missing from textbooks and the K-12th grade educational atmosphere. Our educational system continues to neglect the history of our African American ancestors and fail to provide them with the educational resources to inform them of our past and allow them to learn about the true origins of our culture. We have made many significant contributions to the world but those have also been highly ignored as well.
Over the course of this semester, I was introduced to many people, ideas, writings, and discussions that sparked my interest and enlightened me on African American history. However, I feel like this was just the beginning of my journey of learning the history of my people, as there is still so much out there to be brought to the surface. Prior to taking this course, I was always ignorant on the topic of African American history and simply made the connection to slavery. Additionally, I was unaware of other black activist, movements, and struggles that I had the chance to witness for the first time in this class. I came to a realization of how deprived of this information I was, because other historic events have been deemed more important. A quote that stuck with me throughout the course that was made by Arthur Schomburg was, “... African history and negro history, are the missing pages of world history”.
African-American history are those events that started with the first slave ships from Africa to the Caribbean Islands and carry through their journey as a people both individually and collectively to today's societies across the Americas.
Carter G Woodson, the oldest of nine in a poor coal mining family found his love of learning early. Earning a Masters’ degree only one year after earning a bachelor’s degree, he quickly followed in the footsteps of great minds and earned his PhD from Harvard University. He had a very well rounded and multifaceted educational journey according to the text, but felt most connected to furthering the pursuit of excellence for all African Americans through the creation of journals, organizations, and eventually continuing on in higher education with the African American in mind. He is credited with Black History week. In light of the time in history wherein he flourished, it is fitting that he was part of the movement that resulted in the creation of the NAACP (iv-v). In short, he objectively appears to single handedly be the father of the African American social awareness movement.
@59. Who played the role of the heavyweight champ Jack Johnson in the movie The Great White Hope?
The purpose of this paper is to inform readers about the importance of the celebration of African American History Month. There is a misconception about African American or Black History Month. Black History Month is the annual festivals that have been observed in the United States to recognize the achievements of African American Social Reformers, Civil Rights Activists, and other essentials people in Black History. This paper will focus on the reasons behind the celebration. I ponder the importance of celebrating African American History Month. I also contemplate on the main reason to celebrate the event in February.
Carter G. Woodson officially established Black history month in 1926, therefore most of the world's population today never experienced a world without black history month. Without Black history month are incapable of learning and knowing about those African American inventors, engineers and scientist, that changed the world without even receiving credit. I believe that's the purpose of black history month. Black history month, designed to give recognition to those whom, in their lifetime, denied the credit that they deserved. Black history month educates people, because in school we rarely learn about how minorities such as african americans, helped build the world we live in today.
The feelings I notice in myself in response to this history is sadness on behalf of the native-Americans people. There is a black history month to remind us of the history of African Americans. Also, I often see old movies and new movies detailing horrific hangings, burnings and beatings of blacks. The movies are often shown at theaters with mega size screens, but rarely do I hear about the atrocities done to our native American brother and sisters. This is so sad, because past Iliff "Christian" school of theology administration was aware of the history of this book covered in the skin of a native-American and did nothing about it until pressure from students made a difference.
In the campus of the college she founded, by the most beautiful beach, humbly and quietly rests a great soul, Mary McLeod Bethune. Many people wonder why Black History Month is so important. Black History Month is not just a name, it is a celebration of innovative Black Americans like Mary McLeod Bethune, who didn't let racial discrimination and discouragement stop her from achieving her dreams against all odds.
Black history awareness is a vital subject that is not covered enough in schools. I feel as though it should be a topic that every school should cover. As a part of history it should not be limited to a single month of appreciation. It should get the same respect as any other history course that is in schools. Not only because black history is informative but African Americans have helped America flourish and become what it is today. Don’t you think?
The Black Civil Rights movement started in 1954, African Americans believed that they should be treated the same as everyone else and that there shouldn't be inappropriate segregation laws dividing people by color. African Americans were considered “separate but equal” but the treatment they received did not make them feel equal. There were many successes and failures during the Black Civil Rights movement. Desegregation was a huge controversial topic and really kicked off the Civil Rights movement. The youth groups of tis generation played a critical role and also helped jump start the Civil Rights movement. A failure would be that African Americans still receive discrimination today, that has never gone away entirely. Although there were other major successes and failures I think that these were some of the most influential, and that they played some of the most important roles.
Black history Month, or as it used to be called National African American History Month,
Many blacks contributed to the success of our country in every war that we as a people have ever fought. In order to properly thank them for their heroic effort, I as a Hispanic Caucasian must give credit where credit is due. In order to properly do so, I must begin with the contributions of “Black America” beginning with the American Revolution and continue up until the World War II. Make no mistake blacks made contributions well past World War II, but in the interest of time and accuracy I must stay within the confines of our earlier history. One main aspect that should be analyzed is the fact that no matter how hard the struggle, blacks have always overcome adversity no matter what the cost. Of course, contributions made by blacks
