She eventually finds out the accident caused her to lose her body. Only 10% of her brain is left. The rest is made of Bio Gel and a fake skeleton. The more she learns about this, the more it makes her think about the rest of her life. Jenna 's accident makes her question whether she can ever have a normal life.

The love that Ethan and Mattie have for each other is sinful and prohibited. Which is why every chance they have alone is spent in some nervousness and anxiety. Ethan is struck more with guilt for his lust every time he sees her. He even spies on her when she is spending time with Denis Eady. For instance, Ethan's heart was beating fast and he strained for a glimpse of a dark head under her "cherry-colored scarf" (30). This shows how much Ethan is into her and fears the idea of them not being together because he loses complete control within himself when she is not interacting with him. Furthermore, when Mattie uses Zeena's "gay red" pickle-dish while they are sitting down for supper (85). Mattie very well knows that the dish is one of Zeena's most prized possessions, yet she insists on using it during her absence. For example, they both lean forward at the same moment and their hands met on the handle of a jug. Mattie's hand on the bottom of it while Ethan kept his clasped on it a moment longer necessary. The cat then backs into the pickle-dish, which falls to the floor in pieces. The shattering of the dish symbolizes and brings out the fact that Mattie and Ethan can never be together, and that their love would only end up in bits. Jenna and her mom clashed often when her father was still alive but since his death they had waved the white flags. Jenna has had to grow up impromptu because of her father’s death. She is grieving her father throughout the book and it makes her both sad and angry. She is very good at math and doing problems calms her down. Jenna wanted revenge for her father’s death and even said she wanted to kill the person responsible.

She opens the door to her childhood, beginning with when she was 3 years old and boiling her own hot dog by standing on top of the chair to reach the stovetop. While doing that, her pink dress catches on the fire because of which gets her horribly burned. She spends a few days in the hospitals and enjoys it too, because she is getting food on time and is not left starving. One day her dad shows up and they run off out of the hospital without paying the bills of her treatment. That night her family leaves the town and move to another place, taking as much stuff as possible with them. Most of her childhood memories involve her whole family- mom, dad, Jeanette, Lori, Brian, and later on Maureen -moving from one desert towns to another, settling in as long as her dad can hold the job. This happened more frequently due to the dad’s alcoholism coupled with his paranoia about the organized society and the state. On September of 2016, I did an oral interview with Vanna Moore about her military past and Vanna’s ties to Texas. Over the whole interview I asked her questions about her experience in Afghanistan and along the way I asked her questions about Texas. To the best of my knowledge Vanna answered “who are these people, these Texans”, what do Texans tell us about America, and what she thought of Texas. We talked about how her military experience shaped her conceptions of Texas. In a setting such as this one and her experiences combined she had moments where she seemed more comfortable and opened, and other moments that were difficult to get through. After this oral interview experience I feel as though I know how I could use oral histories in my classroom.

Osman’s Public Figures contain upwards of four genre forms, including multimedia, documentary poetics, inverse poetry and experimental. Essentially, the entire text is an experiment that is urging its readers to think on their relational positioning. A few of the major lessons that one can learn from reading Osman’s Public Figures include perspective, asking the past to see the present. Public Figures proposes a multitude of concepts and ideas to reflect on and actively pursue with one of the concepts of perspective.

In the book “ACID” by Emma Pass, there are many events that surround the theme of identity. From having many different truths and lies that lead to doubting knowledge, to causing adversity while breaking out of prison, to dealing with ever changing identities. Each event mentioned shapes the main character, a girl named Jenna Strong, into the unwilling pawn in the game of life.

In the novel The Adoration of Jenna Fox, by Mary E. Pearson, an important message is the value of medical ethics. The author shows us many points of view on this issue. The two that are the most prominent are 1) that medical ethics are important, and we should have laws regarding them, and 2) that while medical ethics are important, we should still be able to save those we love, even if it breaks the law.

In Safari by Jennifer Egan, Egan brings up the topic of relationships and their structures quite often. Egan even defines many of Mindy’s personal terms, which describe her interactions with others. Such terms as Structural desire, Structural resentment, Structural Dissatisfaction, are brought up often as Mindy describes her relationships with Lou, Albert, and herself. Mindy goes through lots of struggles and challenges while trying to maintain these partnerships. These kinds of relationships can be applied outside of the story; to show how these kinds of relationships can affect us in negative ways. Mindy has a completely different perspective by the end of the story. She also has all new relationships with Lou, Albert, and herself. In Safari, Mindy has many complex relationships throughout the text that change and evolve, as she also grows as a person.
