The American Dream: Everyone Should Be Equal For All

The American dream is starting small and having freedom in order to grow into your best fully developed self working in your dream job living with the people you love. The American dream is not accessible to everyone in America since there are many possibilities you could end up in a job that pays you lower that your dream job and that may keep you away from your loved one.

First, let's define "American Dream". "American Dream" is what you would consider a "perfect life." It can be full of happiness, money, love, food, cars, whatever you desire, everyone has a different opinion. One person’s American Dream may be totally different from someone else’s, that is what makes us all individuals. My American Dream would include a good job and lots of money, spare time for my family and I, and most importantly, healthiness.

Through everybody’s eyes is their own version of the American Dream. Whether it’s the stereotypical dream with a good job, a family, and a house with a white picket fence, or it could be just getting by at the end of the month financially. The American Dream doesn’t have a specific image but rather a particular mindset. Lots of people have a goal in their life that they have to work hard to be successful towards that goal, but in most cases that goal may be unrealistic.

The American Dream is that the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.

Unkept promises diminish day by day. What once may have given people ambition and zeal has transformed into a superficial and consumerist ideal. In the nation’s youth, the American Dream was a promise to the people which has failed to impart its values to future generations. This promise traces back to the foundation that “all men are created equal” and Dictionary.com’s first definition defines the American Dream as “the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American.” This is closest to the originally intended meaning of the American Dream which perhaps only a minority of the population still recognizes. Not everyone in America has the money they need to get by, or to live how they want to. Americans of low class can’t compete against those of high class. While some people can achieve The American Dream, others struggle with just living. With the right mindset, anyone can achieve the dream. Like many others, I can see the difference in class, just from how people behave. Money and class affects how each person is treated as an individual, rather than who they are.

History has a way of repeating itself. The problem of inequality has lasted as long as man has throughout the course of time. People are thought to be brave when they stick up against inequality. On July 4, 1776 Thomas Jefferson wrote the most important document in the history of our nation. The Declaration of Independence was the official document that claimed that their new name the United States of America and they would succeed from unfair British control. The Declaration of Independence was famous for demanding that everyone should have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Fast forward 187 years, Martin Luther King gave his monumental “I Have A Dream” speech in 1963 about his displeasure in the nation’s ability to protect equal opportunity for its citizens. The American Dream has always been based off of making life whatever you want it to be. It has also been based off of equal opportunity. The American Dream has been fought over since the beginning of our country.

Every American individual has the opportunity to acquire the benefits of the American Dream, if they worked hard enough. Each person’s American dream is based on their own personal values.
