that was left in them was surely submissive. Even expecting the worst Burton couldn’t believe what Demitri had created. The anatomy of beasts and men that Demitri had spliced together shouldn’t have been biologically possible to function. But the hybrids were animated and conscious. Burton felt a profound pity for the human victims, taken from their families, never to return; if they did, they would never be the same. He was aware that Demitri had rounded up bastard children, searching relentlessly for the Volpi gene within their blood, while he was part of the Ikarus Council. Were these monsters mere children that have been turned into beasts? He wondered. The mages and what was left of the Dead Elders exited the ships and …show more content…
The Dead Elders unlocked the lower cabin of the ship and rolled out catapults. They loaded the buckets with large, leafy sacks covered in mud. “Ghords!” yelled Simon. “They’re launching Ghords.” Montague drew his sword. Burton stepped in front of him and readied his wand. He knew it would be the last time he would hold Vandagelle. Rayne proceeded ahead, alone in the open field. From his lead he signaled Burton and the rest to stop where they were. With his feathered wings fully extended, Rayne raised his hands. They were wrapped tightly with black gauze from his wrists up to his knuckles. Bolts of plasma erupted from his palms and into the sky. Then, he clinched his fist and thrusted his hands forward, sending a transparent wave of energy into the frontline of werewolves and mages. The shockwave hurled the monsters backwards, disabling a great number of the enemy’s frontline. A cloud of dust smothered the battlefield. Before the air could clear, the clicking of catapults launching in the distance rang loud. The payloads flew through the smoky sky. When the sticky sacks hit the ground they bounced and rolled, rather than crumbling like stones or exploding like barrels of oil. The leaves of the sacks unfurled into the man-eating plants known as Ghords. The Ghords had landed far beyond where Rayne stood, but the men of the Resistance raced forward and hacked at the snapping plants. Burton could hear Demitri
Every work is a product of its time. Indeed, we see that in Frankenstein, like in the world which produced its author, race, or the outward appearances on which that construct is based, determines much of the treatment received by those at all levels of its hierarchy. Within the work, Mary Shelley, its author, not only presents a racialized view of its characters, but further establishes and enforces the racial hierarchy present and known to her in her own world. For the few non-European characters, their appearance, and thus their standing in its related hierarchy, defines their entrances into the narrative. For the Creature, this occurs on the ices of the Artic, when, “atop a low carriage, fixed on a sledge and drawn by dogs, pass on towards the north, at the distance of half a mile;” Walton and his men perceived, “a being which had the shape of a man, but apparently of gigantic stature.” (Shelley 13) Shelley clarifies, even this early in her novel, the race of its principal Other as soon after the intrepid adventurers rescue its namesake, Victor Frankenstein, who, Shelley clarifies, “was not, as the other traveller seemed to be, a savage inhabitant of some undiscovered island, but an European.” (Shelley 14) Later, closer examination of the Creature reveals a visage and figure of near unimaginable disfigurement, with a “shrivelled complexion,” and yellow skin which “scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath.” (Shelley 35) This could be contrasted directly
A mink is a good specimen to study the human anatomy because it is so closely related in internal features to that of a human being. Since these features are so closely related it provides a sort of “model” that can be used in order to better understand the anatomy of humans.
Have you ever contemplated about the differences between a human and an animal’s body system or even more interesting, the anatomies of any two animals? Most important, people can explore how an animal sustains and grows itself. Also, you are able to learn animal management, which is useful for people working in a range of industries. Additionally, a body system consists of various organs which work together to carry out a special job, which is vital to living a healthy life. Most important, researching the anatomies of both, pigs and frogs, every system has its own composition of organs, functions, and its own purpose.
Frankenstein describes the “birth” of his “child” not with the typical affection of a new mother, but with complete repulse: “I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open: it breathed hard and a convulsive motion agitated its limbs (Shelley, p.58).” The first words his creation heard were the harsh words of his creator shouting: “abhorred monster! Fiend that thou art.” He does not rejoice or receive his “child” with kindness, as a loving mother would; he instead rushes out of the room appalled at the disgusting and abnormal physical appearance of his creation.
The monster was once portrayed and a very intelligent and emotional creature with exact human psychology.
In Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, Victor Frankenstein creates a creature, stronger and better than humans in every way except his looks. After Frankenstein abandons him, the Creature meets the De Lacey’s, a nice little family that indirectly teach him how to read and write. In truth, the Creature only becomes a monster after the hatred that Felix, one of the De Lacey’s, shows him. Before, he had done nothing wrong, but afterwards, all he did was fall down a slippery slope.
creature received from Frankenstein and the other people around him. I often wonder how things
Victor’s initial opinion of his creature’s outlook is horrified and disappointed, although he succeeds in his destination to create a living being from inanimate pieces. The disappointment is not only irrational, but also the spiritual damage left a permanent scar on his mind. Later on, the creature goes into a cottage, De Lacey is the only person who didn’t judge the creature’s monstrous outlook but he is blind. However, when the children see the creature, they “dashed him to the ground and struck him violently with a stick.”(124), and also Victor’s younger brother William also evaluates the creature as a “monster”, “ Ugly wretch”, and “Ogre”. (131). The children and William both classify the creature as a disgusting monster, and they treat him violently and differently because of his ugly physical features. Even though the creature was hateful and labeled prematurely as a monster and killer, he sees the goodness of the human heart and desires to learn more about the human race and their language. The creature fluids with pure soul since he does not attempt to hurt and harm anyone. However, people don’t accept him at all which it also criticizes the idea that beauty that
Honorable Magistrate, we are here today to discuss the heinous and deliberate crimes committed by the Creature Victor Frankenstein created. Know that it is important to remember that although we may call this being Creature he is a human, after all he is composed of all the “intricacies of fibers, muscles, and veins” of a human, has the need of the flesh as stated when he said, in quotation, “I…satisfied myself with berries, nuts, and roots,” and “brought home firing sufficient for the consumption of several days,” and has the emotions of a human when he stated that “These were reflections of my hours of despondency and solitude; but when I contemplated the virtues of the cottagers, their amiable and benevolent dispositions, I persuaded myself
Despite his vengeance against all of mankind, when the reader is given the chance to heat “the monster’s” narrative, it can be proven just how capable the creation is of love, kindness, and compassion. For example, “the monster” stole firewood from
Although those around him did not see the monster as human, he clearly displays human characteristics, the most prominent being that of emotion. To be fully human, a person must feel emotions. Without emotions people’s minds can become corrupted which drives people to struggle in making decisions, people can also miss out on life changing experiences and, most
Victor Frankenstein had a glorious childhood brought by well-praised, loving parents, whom were possessed by “the very spirit of kindness and indulgence.” His parents treated Victor fairly; tendering him whenever he needed, allowing him to acquire great knowledge, and being his helping hand, or a push towards success, when he desired. Victor’s life seemed to tick off all those boxes; meanwhile, the creature’s didn’t. Frankenstein, the creature’s only so-called ‘family’, had degraded the ‘Being’. Belittling his creation, Frankenstein congregated the creature in a grotesque manner with: yellow eyes and a giant frame, which brings me to my subsequent point.
Whilst reading and watching Frankenstein and Ex Machina, respectively, I often felt sympathetic towards The Creature and Ava. Both were created and animated without their consent (this is a grey line since they cannot actually give consent). In my Journal 6, I wrote “The Creature was brought into the world unwillingly and has to face loneliness and misery due to his monstrosity.” I will explore the portrayal of non-human beings by Mary Shelley and Alex Garland, the human interaction with these beings, and my opinion on why The Creature and Ava should be considered “human.”
The anatomy of sheep differs mainly from that of a human. However, there are some areas of a sheep’s bone structure that resemble different parts of a human’s bone structure. For example, the hock on a sheep is equivalent to an ankle on a human. The hock being higher up on the leg compared to the ankle shows that sheep evolved to have their leg joints and bones to extend upward. Also, the pastern is anatomically homologous to the joints at the end of a human’s finger. The pastern benefits a sheep by being able to disperse the force from the leg when a sheep steps down or when the sheep’s elbow and knee are locked. Lastly, the anatomy of the stifle joint is similar to that of a human knee with both being made up of the femur, tibia, and patella. The stifle joint is a hinge joint, allowing the stifle joint to move in two directions, which helps with moving around along with muscle movement. Even though the anatomy of a human and a sheep differ in obvious ways, there are some homologous structures that evolved in each of the different species.
The main goal for many agricultural producers across the country is to annually improve the quality of their stock. For certain companies such as Cargill and JBS who are two of the largest protein distributors across the globe, an improvement for their stock could be reaching their end point faster. For other operations involved in the purebred or show aspect of the industry improving the quality could mean producing better structured animals who are larger framed.
