The atmosphere is an amazing creation. It contains many things that help make this world a place where we can live. The atmosphere contains ozone. That helps protect our skin from harmful sun rays. Many layers make up our atmosphere. There are five main layers, the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and lastly the exosphere. Each layer has a different purpose. Clouds are located in the atmosphere and are a big part of the water cycle. There are different types of clouds and they all have different effects. Conduction and convection also play a big part in how we live our lives today.
Ozone is a gas in the atmosphere. It absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Without ozone, our skin would burn from the suns radiation. Ozone can be either good or bad for your health. It depends on the location of it in the atmosphere. It can also be bad for the environment. When ozone is near the ground it is considered very dangerous. During the hot summer months ozone levels should be monitored. In the summer, more harmful ozone concentrations are in the air we use. Inhaling ozone can be very dangerous to our health. It can cause a number of health problems. Scientists are figuring out ways to help keep the air clean and people and the environment healthy. (1)
There are many different layers in the atmosphere, five actually. The layer closest to the earth’s surface is the troposphere. The troposphere is again the very
Also the amount of air molecules is greater at lower altitudes than at a high altitude. If an air molecule hits another air molecule even more air pressure happens. Air pressure can be felt while riding an express elevator to the top floor of a really tall building. Also it can be felt by diving all the way to the bottom of a swimming pool. The air pressure can also be formed when there is a lot of wind which causes the air molecules in the air to move around even faster and crash into each other even more.
The atmosphere in a place and time in regards to heat, dryness, sunshine, wind, rain, etc.
Clouds to form in the atmosphere have to have water vapor present. This water vapor makes up a cloud. The water vapor in the atmosphere comes from evaporation or deposition. Also the temperature of the air is below the dew point. When the water is fully saturated, it starts to rise and the expansional cooling process begins. During the process of condensation, the aerosol particles act like a nuclei in the atmosphere, which began to grow, creating ice crystals that are big enough to produce a cloud.
What are the different layers of the atmosphere? What are some characteristics of each? I mentioned in class that you should focus on knowing about two of these atmospheric layers in particular.
The ozone is a form of oxygen that combines three oxygen atoms in each molecule. Its important because its like a filter. CFCS, also known as, chlorofluorocarbons are used to break up some of the ozone molecules
Did you know that with all this talk about global warming, and the disappearing of the ozone layer, the root of the problem is us? Yes, we’re the cause of all those problems. We keep putting something called greenhouse gases into the air. A few greenhouse gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane. While some climate change is natural, humans need to be careful about greenhouse gases because ecosystems are changing, sea levels are rising, and global average temperature increased by more than 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit over the last century.
Do you ever wonder how it would feel to live in another atmosphere or a different place that is different from your atmosphere rules?Well this will give you a little hint of what kind of difference it will be to live in a different atmosphere.
The atmosphere is defined as the envelope of gases surrounding the Earth or another planet (Dictionary, 2017). The atmosphere is necessary for human life and without it, human life would not be sustained. It acts as a protective shield that keeps the Earth warm. Not only does it act as a protective shield however, it also protects all living things on Earth from the sun’s extremely damaging ultraviolet radiation. In addition to this, the atmosphere provides oxygen for both human and animals to breathe, and it provides carbon dioxide for plants. Without the atmosphere, life would not be sustained among all living things (Earth Rice, 2017).
Weather is created by the movement of air masses of different temperature and moisture content moving around the Earth’s atmosphere and interacting with each other.
According to NASA clouds are made of water or ice crystals floating in the sky, not gas (add reference). A scientific explanation of how clouds are form is that water vapour evaporates from the earth into the atmosphere than condenses on the earth. There are many different reasons as to why clouds are formed. Some other ways include when dust, smoke or other particles are suspended into the air or when water vapour condenses into particles into the air (Skamp & Preston, 2007, p.
The tropopause is the outer layer which is made of ammonia clouds. It is where all the weather and winds happen. The winds in this layer can go as fast at 1,100 miles per hour. There are storms that have lasted for centuries and even billions of years. The storms are the most violent in the solar system.
“The atmosphere holds carbon dioxide and other gases that keep the planet warm and protect its surface from radiation.” Again, radiation is a bad thing, so the atmosphere helps with that as well. It keeps the good gasses in (the bad, too, unfortunately, though I think it keeps some gasses out as well) that would otherwise make Earth impossible to be sustain life.
Why is the ozone layer of much concern to scientists and environmentalists? The ozone layer is quite beneficial to human life and existence. The destruction of this layer has been linked to the now common health conditions such as cancers, skin conditions and cataracts among others. It is apparent that, without the ozone layer, all humanity would be lost to disease.
National Geographic wrote the article “Good Ozone, Bad Ozone”. The article is about how there are both good parts of the ozone layer and some bad parts of the ozone layer. The ozone layer is only good when the gas is high above the ground if it is not then it can be very harmful for us. The bad thing about the ozone layer is it is made up of poisonous gasses. Approximately 90 percent of the earth’s ozone is called the stratosphere. Many scientists believe that ozone layer is being destroyed due to chemicals we use. The National Geographic was motivated to write this article to educate us on how the ozone layer has a good and a bad layer. Even though, the ozone layer is helpful because it protects us from harmful ultraviolet rays. It can be bad when the layer is depleted and
• Troposphere. The lowest layer of the atmosphere which begins at the surface is the troposphere. It extends to 18 km above Earth’s surface. Almost all of the weather occurs in this layer. The troposphere is Earth’s densest atmospheric layer. Temperature decreases as altitude increases due to expansive cooling.
