Ariel Castro grew up in an abusive household with divorced parents. Later down the line when he married his wife, he became abusive to her. Eventually she divorced him, taking custody of their children, and not ending in his favor. Which lead to even more repressed rage and sorrow from Castro, Making him more depressed and lonely. To his upbringings and abusive relationship with his wife, Castro seemed to have a loose interpretation of morality.

Castro viewed his victims as a family dynamic with different roles: Michelle was viewed as a grandmother figure who was to help raise the child (evidenced by Castro making her miscarry multiple times), Amanda was viewed as a mother figure (as she’s the biological mother of the daughter), and Gina who was viewed as a daughter or sister (as she was the youngest, and least sexually abused), and Castro viewing himself as the father …show more content…

Having his victims act as members of the family unbeknownst to the child (who, at the time, wouldn’t understand Castro’s true nature and intensions). Additionally, Castro was not only focused on his “family” but the families of his victims; Castro inserted himself into neighborhood searches for Amanda and Gina, trying to lower any suspicions or possibility of suspicion, as he pretended that he too was looking for the missing girls.
However, Castro was finally caught in 2013, 11 years after his first kidnapping. He was caught when he accidentally left the door slightly open, allowing Amanda to call for help; Nearby neighbors ran to her aid by kicking open the door and helping her out, 911 was quickly called and police were shortly dispatched. When police arrived they entered Castro’s home finding Michelle and Gina upstairs, and shortly after that Castro was hunted down and taken into custody.
In court, Castro was charged with multiple accounts of kidnapping and rape, Castro insisted that he was a good person, and that he was not a monster; insisting that the sex was consensual. But against all his pleading, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
