Research question: Why was the Battle of Gettysburg considered a turning point of Civil War and what are the economics impacts of the event during the time? I. Introduction This purpose of this paper is to show why the Battle of Gettysburg was considered a turning point in Civil War and what are the economics influences of the outcome during the time of the event. The influences on both North and South’s markets are studied and will be shown whether any changes were made during the turning point. II. Body 1. Why considered a turning point The main question lies within the category of the importance and impact of the Battle of Gettysburg. Why was it considered a turning point for the Union? What are the impacts? Rawley (1989) believed that this victory has won the war for the Union who had the lower hand in the war and he conventionally considered this battle to be a turning point in Civil War (pg.147). He also stated that Gettysburg was the northern most offensive marching point for the Confederate and after the defeat, never again they were able to get the strength to carry the war due to the huge loss in manpower (pg.148). He also constantly reminded of how formidable the Confederate’s army was in comparison to the Union’s yet at the end, the battle is believed to have the biggest casualties of all battles: 17,684 total casualties for the Union and 22,638 for the Confederate (Rawyley, 1989).
