From being turned down at Capitol Records, to being number one on the British charts for six months, to eventually frequently performing sold out shows, the Beatles became a rock icon for thousands of people. Throughout the span of 13 years, the Beatles released 12 studio albums, 13 extended plays (Eps), and 22 singles, all while touring and balancing a hectic schedule. The Beatles, consisting of four talented young men, formed in Liverpool England in 1956. They quickly became exceedingly popular despite struggling to get a record label in the beginning of their career.
Paul McCartney was one of the lead singers of the Beatles, and he played bass guitar. He wrote several songs for the band, such as, Yesterday, Hey Jude, and Let it Be. The song Let it Be was inspired by his mother who passed away when Paul was only 14 years old. After the band broke up in 1970, Paul went on to a solo career and later formed a band by the name of Wings, which won two Grammy Awards. After a friend and former member of the Beatles was murdered, and Paul’s wife passed away from cancer, Paul decided to stop touring until 1989. In the 90’s, Paul collaborated with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, and started working with former band members George Harrison and Ringo Starr on a documentary series called The Beatles Anthology.

Although he wasn’t as popular as the rest of his band mates during his time in the band, he opened up with songwriting when he went solo. He was a skilled guitarist and was influential as a band member in the Beatles. On November 29, 2001, George Harrison died of cancer at the age of 58. The Harrison family said “He left this world as he lived it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends” (beatlesnumber9.com). Harrison’s death left McCartney and Starr as the only Beatles
